First year for the Super Beetle!  The 71 - 72's are unique. First years for MacPherson Strut suspension and the long hood but they still have the flat windshield.

This car runs great, plenty of power and shifts fine.
Did not ever have much rust.  Rear floorboard was rusty, prob because of the battery.  I cut that out and replaced it; see the pictures.
Heater tubes and everything else were in good shape.
Body is straight.  New paint has some dust and a bug or two in it but it's sprayed on thick so you can rub that stuff out if it bothers you.
Brakes are fine,  I've replaced one leaky wheel cylinder, the linings are fine.
E-brake works!
Tail lights are from an older standard beetle. I like the look.  There are no backup lights!  I'll include the stock taillights if you need backup lights.
Tires are almost new.
Sony cassette stereo works like a champ.  If you don't want it I'll gladly keep it.
I'll include the box  'o' parts and the books.  Check out the cool oil filter wrench!
Not everything is hooked up.  There is no horn, I don't have the passenger side windshield wiper arm, the motor does work though.  The washer is not hooked up.  Car was originally air conditioned but most of that stuff is long gone.  Heater is not hooked up but could be. It's just missing those silver tubes that go from the fan to the heat exchange.
This is a solid car that drives and stops and turns heads!
Clear NC title in my name.  Buyers responsible for figuring out what your state requires to get it transferred.  Buyers also responsible for shipping. It can be driven home if you live within a reasonable distance of me.
Low reserve!  I am going to try to sell it locally so I will end the auction if that happens.  If the reserve is met I will not end it, of course.  Thanks and I'll be glad to answer any questions.

Tanner Foust checks out his new VW Beetle GRC rally car

Thu, 11 Sep 2014

Racing driver and Top Gear USA host Tanner Foust is a very busy guy. After all, he's competing in rounds of both Global Rallycross series and FIA World Rallycross Championship, not to mention his TV duties. However, we probably shouldn't feel too sorry for him, because his job puts him behind the wheel of some truly crazy machinery.
Case in point is his latest ride in Global Rallycross - the Volkswagen Beetle GRC. The German company claims that this all-wheel drive Bug makes around 540 horsepower from its 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and can shoot to 60 in under 2 seconds. Plus, if this video is any indication, this Volkswagen sounds like a machine gun when throwing revs at idle, and it can do some wonderfully easy four-wheel drifts.
Previously, Foust was driving a VW Polo for Andretti Autosport in GRC, but the team unveiled the look of the Beetle GRC at the Chicago Auto Show. Now, Foust is finally getting to show off his new office to the public, and like VW's tagline for the new car claims, it's way hotter than Herbie.

Volkswagen e-Co-Motion concept poised for delivery to Geneva

Sat, 02 Mar 2013

With Nissan getting ready to launch the e-NV200, it appears Volkswagen is looking to go after the same zero-emission commercial vehicle market with the all-electric 2013 e-Co-Motion Concept. Debuting next week at the Geneva Motor Show, the e-Co-Motion Concept might be small in size, but VW says it has cargo and payload capacities that should be perfect for small businesses.
Measuring 179 inches long, 75 inches wide and 77 inches tall, the e-Co-Motion Concept has about the same footprint as the current Golf, and it has a cargo capacity of 162 cubic feet and a maximum payload of more than 1,700 pounds. There isn't too much information on the e-Co-Motion just yet - such as what electric components and platform are used - but the press release posted below states while the concept is shown as a cargo van, future body styles could include a passenger wagon or a refrigerated box van.

2015 VW Golf R caught getting a flogging on 'Ring

Wed, 22 May 2013

The upcoming version of the Volkswagen Golf R is nearly ready for prime time, if this video of the car flying around the Nürburgring is any indication. The all-wheel-drive R seems to make quick, neat work of the corners we see here, and sounds pretty devilish in the process.
Expectations are that the new Golf R will run a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (what else?), tuned to produce even more than the current car's 256 horsepower. (Some sources have indicated outputs as high as 286 horsepower, with 280 pound-feet of torque. It's still not clear if Volkswagen will bring the six-speed dual-clutch transmission to the US-spec Golf R in this next go-round or if we'll stick to having only... eh... the stick.
In either case - watching the video below will only whet your appetite for the new, highest performing member of the Golf family.
