1969 Volkswagen Beetle, Vw Bug on 2040-cars
Apple Valley, California, United States
This Bug was used as a daily driver for the past five years, and has only been parked for the past month or so. The engine was rebuilt in 2009, and the car looks good, and is reliable. It is however, a used 69 Bug and has a few dings and dents. It would make a great project, you can drive to work while fixing it up! See the attached photos, we tried to take photos of the damages. The car is running, and currently registered. As to the mileage? Who knows how many times the odometer has rolled over. You are welcome to come by and take a look during the bidding process. I am willing to allow for local pick-up, or ship it anywhere in the United States. The buyer will need to arrange, and pay for shipping costs.
There are lots of extra Volkswagen parts that the buyer will also get as a part of this sale including a spare 1600 engine that was running when it was removed in 2009, a spare case, engine parts, door handles, you name it. There is even a pair of rebuilt Dual Kadron carbs. Nothing special, but all the bits that keep this car going. Take what you need. This car has taken me to school, work, the mountains and the beach and has yet to leave me stranded. It is with a heavy heart that I let this piece of my childhood go, however I am moving to the East coast. Happy bidding. |

TRANSLOGIC 150: Volkswagen XL1
Mon, Feb 24 2014How do you build the world's most fuel-efficient production car? Start with the world's most aerodynamic design. The Volkswagen XL1 is capable of 261 miles per gallon thanks to its sleek shape and ultra efficient plug-in diesel hybrid powertrain. The downside is that only 250 will be made and none will be sold stateside. That didn't stop us from taking our turn behind the wheel of this truly revolutionary ride.
Audi CEO says brand's EVs are almost as profitable as its other cars
Mon, Oct 4 2021After, oh, a hundred years or so of building vehicles primarily powered by internal combustion engines, automakers around the world have been and still are pumping billions of dollars into the development of electric vehicle technology. Everything from platforms and batteries to motors and the software to control it all requires untold hours of development, and that takes time and money. Fortunately, it's not going to take long for that massive investment to start paying off, at least according to Audi CEO Markus Duesmann, who told Reuters in an interview that "The point where we earn as much money with electric cars as with combustion engine cars is now, or ... next year, 2023. They are very even now, the prices." As a brand, Audi contributed more than a quarter of overall profit for the massive Volkswagen Group, which has such powerhouse brands as Volkswagen and Porsche among others. Under the Audi umbrella are Lamborghini, Bentley and Ducati, and it seems those high-end branches aren't going anywhere, at least for now. "These brands ... are very valuable very profitable brands, where we can even expand the synergy level in the future," Duesmann said in the interview. "There are no plans whatsoever to get rid of them." Despite the overall profitability of the brand, the ongoing global chip crisis is causing headaches. "We had a very strong first half in 2021. We do expect a much weaker second half," said Duesmann, who added, "We really have trouble." In fact, so serious is the trouble that the brand is forced into "a day-to-day troubleshooting process" to limit the chip-shortage damage. The good news for the automaker is that Audi has been able to boost its profit margin from 8% prior to the pandemic in 2019 to 10.7% in the first half of 2021. The bad news is that various chip shortages aren't expected to get a whole lot better over the rest of the year. Related video:
2014 Volkswagen XL1 [w/video]
Mon, 11 Mar 2013World's Most Efficient Car Impresses, Not Without Compromises
Among our many duties at the recent Geneva Motor Show, we were offered a pretty exclusive drive in the new Volkswagen XL1 hyper-efficient plug-in diesel hybrid. There is so much that is interesting about a car like this reaching production from a major automaker that it's tough to know where to begin.
First off, you should know that - at least for this generation - there is absolutely no chance in Albuquerque that this "1-liter vehicle" (i.e. a vehicle that can burn just one liter of fuel to travel 100 kilometers, or 62.1 miles) will ever make it into the hands of North American customers. We, too, were having trouble imagining an XL1 in typical American traffic, surrounded by comparatively massive pickups and SUVs. The driving experience had us recalling a couple of weeks in 1999 when we drove the then-revolutionary Honda Insight hybrid on US roads. We keenly remember the feeling of being very small and vulnerable, even as we felt proudly green in our 61-mpg Tochigi pod. Thing is, the Volkswagen is smaller still, and nearly as light despite its more complex drivetrain and safety features.
