Up for auction is my 1968 VW Baja bug. I've owned the car since 2008 and I don't currently have time to keep up with maintenance on a classic car so I'm selling it. The car is currently registered in the State of California with a non-op registration. It has a clean title, I've put just over $5,400.00 worth of parts in this car over the last six years, receipts will be included with the purchase. This thing is pretty good to go, road ready! If the auction goes over $3,500.00 I'll throw in a bunch of my spare parts with the car. Runs and Drives Great.

New Parts on The Car:
  • Clutch & Throw Out Bearing
  • Rebuilt Swing Axle Transmission with New Old Stock Side Gears
  • Rebuilt the entire front steering, including new steering box
  • Re-wired the car back to a stock harness (had a buggy harness in it when I bought it)
  • Rear Tires: BF Goodrich P245 60R 15 (with Spare to match) Tires have less than 100 miles on them, tread is perfect
  • Front Tires: BF Goodrich P195 65R 15 (with Spare to match) Tires have less than 100 miles on them, tread is perfect
  • All new brakes including wheel cylinders and master cylinder
  • Converted it to a 12volt Alternator.
  • Rebuilt Stock Carburetor
  • New Fuel Pump
  • New Starter
  • New Battery
  • New Fuel Sending Unit
  • Mostly all new fuel hoses and brake lines
  • New Stinger Exhaust with Baffle and Tractor Flap
  • Custom built Rear Engine Cage with Bob Drake 1949 Ford Tail Lights, They have a blue dot in the center.
  • Brand new German axle boots, I just put them on last weekend!!
  • New Wolfsburg West seatbelts
Other things about the car you should know:
  • All four fenders are fiberglass
  • Fiberglass hood
  • Fiberglass rear deck lid
  • Visor is Fiberglass
  • Aftermarket pop-up sun roof
  • Has original heater boxes
  • No rear seat, custom wood self that the rear spare tire sits on.
  • Pan is pretty much rust free, even under the battery!
  • Original High Back seats
  • Rear roll cage is installed
  • One piece windows
  • The body is far from straight. This is a baja and has been off road, lots of door dings and dents.
  • I replaced all the weather stripping when I got the car except the window seals. Car does not leak water except in the very corner of the one-piece windows. This is a very minor leak and a problem with all one-piece windows.
  • Tachometer is hooked up and working.
  • Fuel Gauge works
Things the car could use:
  • Passenger side mirror is broken
  • The car has no e-brake hooked up
  • Heater Boxes need the exchange tubes to hook up the heater
  • Defroster is not hooked up
  • Windshield wipers work, just needs new blades
  • light surface rust where the paint is chipping on the roof, see photo.
  • The odometer is not hooked up, I have absolutely no idea how many miles are on this car.
  • Speedometer is not hooked up.
  • Turn singles are not hooked up.
  • Wiring is there for a horn, needs a horn and button to work.
  • No interior door panels
  • No headliner
  • No carpet
Feel free to ask any questions. If you're in the Sacramento CA area, drop me a line if you'd like to come check the car out in person.

Sunday Drive: Variety is the spice of life

Sun, Nov 12 2017

If there's any one new vehicle the entire world is anxiously waiting for, it's the Jeep Wrangler. Yes, of course the iconic off-roader has a loyal following here in America, but you could plop a Wrangler pretty much anywhere on the globe and everybody will know what it is. Put simply, the redesigned 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has big, muddy shoes to fill, and the readers of Autoblog are just as interested in the Wrangler's rebirth as anyone else. Moving along, we were fortunate enough last week to spend a bit of time in nearly every version of the venerable Volkswagen Golf all in one day. There isn't a Golf we don't like, but there's one, easily identifiable by its three-digit name, that stands above all the rest: GTI. We think it's the best Golf you can buy, even if there's an R-badged variant that slots above the GTI in VW hierarchy. Rounding out our recap are three vehicles that could hardly be more different. The 2019 GMC Sierra, which was seen wearing pretty light camouflage, is a truck. The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio – which isn't going to go on sale, ever, at any price – is a conceptual supercar. And the Honda CB1000R is a retro-themed naked standard motorcycle. Variety really is the spice of life. 2018 Jeep Wrangler spy shot mega gallery Driving nearly every VW Golf: Base, GTI, R, Alltrack — here's what we learned 2019 GMC Sierra spied sporting just a thin wrapping The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio is a brutally fantastic EV supercar concept Honda unveils 2 new motorcycles, including retro-flavored CB1000R Image Credit: Brian Williams GMC Honda Jeep Lamborghini Volkswagen Technology Truck Convertible Crossover Hatchback SUV Performance sunday drive vw golf gti lamborghini terzo millennio

CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over

Mon, 03 Sep 2012

After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.

Volkswagen names new chief designer for Bentley

Thu, Jun 4 2015

The Volkswagen Group has named one of its own to head up the design department at its Bentley division. The role now falls to Stefan Sielaff, who has been with the group (off and on) since 1990. Sielaff is principally an interior designer, but has been tasked with setting up numerous overall design offices for Volkswagen and Audi over the years. In his new capacity he'll be reporting to the group's chief engineer Rolf Frech (and oddly not to Bentley chief Wolfgang Durheimer), but at the same time, Sielaff will retain his role as head of interior design for the entire VW group, reporting to its chief designer Walter de Silva. Sielaff replaces Luc Donckerwolke, who has headed up Bentley design since 2012 and is leaving the company. We'll be on the lookout to see where Donckerwolke lands next. Crewe/Wolfsburg, 04 June 2015 Stefan Sielaff to head design at the Bentley brand • Sielaff also responsible for Group Interior Design Strategy Stefan Sielaff (53), currently Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam, will assume responsibility for design at the Bentley brand effective July 1, 2015 in addition to his present post as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy. As Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff succeeds Luc Donckerwolke (49), who held this function since 2012. Stefan Sielaff joined the Volkswagen Group in 1990, beginning his career in the interior design department at Audi. From 1995 the design graduate was entrusted with setting up the Group's Design Center Europe in Spain. In 1997 he was placed in charge of the Design Studio in Munich and was appointed Head of Audi Interior Design in the same year. In 2003 Sielaff moved to DaimlerChrysler as Design Director of the Interior Competence Center, returning to the Volkswagen Group in 2006 to become Head of Audi Design before being appointed Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam und Head of Group Interior Design Strategy in 2012. In his new function as Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff reports to Rolf Frech, Board Member for Engineering. In his function as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy he continues to report to Walter de Silva, Head of Group Design. Luc Donckerwolke has decided to leave the company. De Silva said: "Luc Donckerwolke has played a key role in the design of various Group brands. We would like to thank him for his work."
