1968 Volkswagen Bug Beetle Classic Passenger Car With Tow Bar on 2040-cars

Year:1968 Mileage:103000
Location:

Eaton, Colorado, United States

Eaton, Colorado, United States

This is a 1968 Volkswagen bug, the odometer shows under 103,000 miles which I believe to be original.  Color inside and out is red and in good shape but has some small stone chips from driving on gravel roads which I tried to reflect in my pictures so please look at pictures carefully.  This car was first sold by Vern Hagestad Motor Co. in Denver Colorado on January 31, 1968.  This car spent much of its life in Arizona and as a result it is NOT all rusted out in the fenders and running board as so many of these cars are.  I have had much work done to the car mechanically to make it dependable and a nice driver.  Repairs are as follows, Rebuilt Engine -- Rebuilt Transmission -- New Fuel Pump -- New Clutch -- New Carburetor -- New Brake Drums and Shoes -- New Wheel Cylinders -- New Wheel Bearings and Seals -- New Axle Boots.  The interior is in good shape but NOT perfect.  The passenger seat has some sun spot near head rest and upholstery repair under the rear window.  Side carpet in front shows wear as you can see from picture but comes with new side carpet not installed and I may have missed a few other flaws.  Car comes with VW tow bar and original owner's manual which has the chassis number and the engine number, both match the number of the chassis and engine presently in the car.  All work done less than 2,000 miles ago.  This car runs great and is ready to go anywhere.

Sellers note: If you are looking for a original VW bug you would have to look a long time to find one this clean.  I got this for my wife who lost interest in it and this is why I am selling it.  Except for when it was driven it was stored inside, out of sun and weather.  If winning bidder wants to fly in to pick up this car and drive it home I would be willing to pick you up in Denver (DIA) which is about a 60 mile drive and help you get a transit sticker from DMV so it can be driven to its new home.

I am listing this car for my brother but will stand behind anything stated in this listing.  I have a few other items listed so please check out my other items!

VW bringing fuel cell concept to LA Auto Show

Mon, Nov 17 2014

Amid the flurry of hydrogen announcements from Toyota and Honda last night, Volkwagen has something to add: a new hydrogen fuel cell concept vehicle. This will be the first VW hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in many years – remember the Tiguan Hy-Motion back in 2008? – and it comes as a bit of a surprise. First written up by the German publication Wirtschaft Woche, VW is going to have the prototype car (not pictured) available at the ride and drive at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this week. We don't yet know what kind of vehicle will sport the hydrogen powertrain, but our money's on a Golf variant. We'll see soon enough when we get to Los Angeles. What's interesting is that there have been a number of not-so-mixed messages out of the VW executive ranks when it comes to hydrogen vehicles. VW's Japanese president, Shigeru Shoji, said in September that, hydrogen fuel cells, "may fly within Japan, but not globally." Last year, VW's electrification head Rudolf Krebs said that "hydrogen mobility only makes sense if you use green energy." Also last year, VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said it's basically impossible to build hydrogen vehicles at a "reasonable cost." Nonetheless, we're going to see a new VW H2 concept soon. Thoughts?

2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet

The Golf VI's Last Hurrah Is Pure Niche
This was in the heart of the ultra-chic Côte d'Azur during winter. The car to be tested was the not-for-North America 2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet. Prevailing weather conditions here this time of year are bizarrely pleasant, as though a dome of Swarovski crystal has been placed over the entire region to protect it from any real winter spoiling things. And the zippy Golf R Cabriolet is a sports car designed precisely for this area's preciously narrow winding streets, as well as for the lofty budgets of its property owners.
So then why was it snowing like we were in northern Michigan? The weather front hit from the north like a swift kick to the Jordaches. The roof was open on this Candy White Golf R Cabrio and I, as is my wont, was determined through thick or thin to keep it retracted. It had been raining and sometimes sleeting like the End of Days, but I kept the lid cracked because the 261-horsepower cabrio - the most powerful convertible ever built by Volkswagen - was snipping along nicely as the bad weather blew over my head and wetted only the rear headrests.

Volkswagen considering a four-door, four-seat XL1

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

According to a report in Autocar, Volkswagen might have more in mind for the XL1 than mining it for advances to grace the next-generation Golf. Aiming to fight the Honda FCEV due for public consumption next year, we're told VW executives have put a four-door, four-seater version of the XL1 - it could be called XL2 - on the drawing board. The impetus is said to come from the top, with VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch intent on staying in the deep end of "super-efficent vehicles."
Autocar suspects the necessary changes could raise the weight of the car from 1,749 pounds to 2,068 pounds, which would make it four pounds less than the 2,072-pound Up! we drove a few years ago. Crucially, however, the mag thinks the extra capacity wouldn't change the two-seater's 310-mile-per-gallon rating, with tech tweaks and the aerodynamic benefit of a longer car offsetting the weight. Speculation is that the back seats would be staggered like the fronts in order to maintain the XL1's overall profile.
We recently heard about another XL1 variant that's gone off the radar entirely, the Ducati-engined XLR that we thought we'd see at the Geneva Motor Show and that was said to be going into production, so this one could go the same way. The biggest hurdle to making such an idea a reality, though, could be the price: the current XL1 costs 110,000 euros ($146,116). If VW really is going to compete with the Honda FCEV and the Toyota FCV - $70,000 in Japan - that might be where it wants to start.
