Up for auction is a very nice looking and driving 1967 VW Bug. It's not prefect, does have some scratches and chips. Nearly all orginal with less then 62000 miles. As most may know the 1967 Beetle has many one year only features. Be sure to read the entire listing prior to bidding.
Body and Interior: The body is in great shape but like stated above does have some scratches and chips in the paint. I tried to document them all in the pictures. The biggest issues are the front right fender is a little misshapen from a runaway trash can and the tire will rub it during hard braking or cornering. The left rear fender has some paint chipped off and a crack in it. The paint is obvious. The crack is hard to see unless looking the car over closely. The right rear fender has a ding in it near the bumper with some airbrushing over it. The ding was in it when I bought the car and it looks like the previous owner did some airbrushing to cover it up. The right quarter has scratches from my wife while the car was in the garage. I'll leave that one alone! Also, right below the drivers door upper hinge there are some paint chips from when the hinge pin was replaced. The interior is in pretty good shape. The seats where recovered at some point and a carpet kit added. The carpet could use some adhesive in spots. The head liner I believe to be original and in great shap for it's age. I'm not sure why but the bonnet is from a 1968 Bug. It has the air vent in it. I think the previous owner wanted to add forced air heat because the air intake box is there but not installed. I never bothered with it and put some tape ove the opening to keep water out if I got caught in the rain. All the glass is original with exception of the windshield. Steering wheel has cracks and missing the horn button. Dash is in great shape with the exception of the aftermarket radio. Floor pan is near prefect, no rust and only minor dings. No rust under the battery either.
Electrical: Everything works, lights, horn and turn signals. The hazards do not work. Why??? The radio is a JVC with USB port for ipod or other MP3 device. It also has kick panel speakers.
Drivetrain and Brakes: Brakes are all new with new master cylinder and new wheel cylinders in the rear and almost all the plumbing replaced. Stops are predictable and straight. The tires are new. Transmission is original and shifts well through all gears although it does have some of the old bug oil leaks. The rear of the car was lowered a little. I'm guessing by turning the torsion bars. It has a pretty cool stance but personally I prefer the front lowered on these cars.
Engine: The motor is a 1915 cc dual port. The serial number on the block is for a 1979 Super Beetle. When original 1500 cc let go I ordered the current motor as a turn-key. So everthing is new. New clutch, flywheel, generator, distributor, tins, carb and manifolds. The carb is a Weber DFEV 32/36 progressive. The distributor is a Pertronix Flame Thrower electronic ignition. I also installed a full flow oil pump and external oil filter mostly to add an extra quart of oil.
Now the bad. The motor was installed about a month ago and I've been fighting to keep it running cool. Triple checked the valve adjustment and timing. Carburetor adjustments havn't helped either. I starts right up when cold and can idle all day without getting hot but driving it more than 20 miles it starts to run warm, misfires and will be hard to start till it cools back off a little. All the tins are in place and I've tried everything except putting a huge external oil cooler on it. I think it's time for someone else to give it a shot.
I'm also including all the spare parts and special VW tools I have with the sale of the car. If the winning bidder wants the tins, manifold, carb and single port cylinder heads from the original motor they can have that too. I do not have the block.
I'm setting the reserve low because I can't say for sure why it runs hot. The reserve is more than $1000 less than what is in the motor alone!
Buyer will be responsible for pick-up or shipping. The car will not leave my possession without full payment. Cash is good but I will take PayPal for the full sale price. There will also be a $500 non-refundable deposit due at the close of the auction. Please only bid if you are serious about buying.
On May-30-13 at 18:01:52 PDT, seller added the following information:
A few miscellaneous things I forgot. The motor has a fully degreed pulley on it so it's easy to check and set timing. It has a Engle 110 performance camshaft. You can start the motor and let it idle all day long and it will not get above 190 degrees oil temp. Only gets warm after driving. I only put about 100 miles on the engine. My next step was to pull the motor back out and remove all the tins to make sure the air is going where it needs to go. The tins were preinstalled when I received the motor I didn't see the need to take them off then.
I love this car but I've reached the end of my patience and budget for this project and it's time to move onto others. Someone is going to end up with a screaming deal on a pretty sweat ride. I'm sure I forgot something else so be sure to ask questions.

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
Recharge Wrap-up: Mercedes gets F1 efficiency, EV charging in Vermont, VW e-Golf to use Bosch
Mon, Jul 14 2014Efficiency equals performance, especially in the case of Formula 1 racing. The Mercedes AMC Petronas team points to several key efficiency technologies it uses to get the most out of its cars. And if their utter dominance so far this season is testament to this relationship, perhaps we should pay attention. Mercedes highlights hybrid tech, turbocharging, aerodynamics, lightweight construction, tribology (both in making internal components and lubricants more slippery) and simulation as crucial to getting around the track faster than anyone else. These just happen to be some of the same things that make the cars we drive on public roads more fuel-efficient. Learn more in the press release below. It's a good read. Brammo, maker of sweet electric motorcycles, is teaming up with TEAM Industries to make drivetrains for electric vehicles. TEAM, which specializes in drivetrain technology, will also become an investor in Brammo as part of the partnership. "The electric vehicle market is a growth market," says TEAM CEO and President David Ricke, "and TEAM and Brammo will be providing a wide range of solutions for OEM manufacturers." Read more over at EV World. Vermont celebrated the installation of a new EV charging station as part of a Green Energy Corridor between Boston and Montreal. When finished, drivers will be able to make the whole trip in an EV with access to charging along the way. For $5, customers can charge their vehicle in about 30 minutes at the Red Hen Baking Company in Middlesex. There are currently only about 700 EVs on the road in Vermont. The state has a goal to get 90 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2050, and getting more EVs on the road is crucial to that mission. Vermont hopes that expanding the charging infrastructure will convince more people to go electric. Read more at Vermont Public Radio's website. For it's new e-Golf, Volkswagen will use Bosch chargers for home installation and ChargePoint stations at its dealerships. Bosch will have various 240-volt options for the home, and will also provide installation. e-Golf customers will also get a free ChargePoint membership, and will have access to the company's network of charging stations worldwide. The 2015 e-Golf goes on sale in the US later this year. Read more in the press release below. Trump reportedly says he wants to wipe German cars off the U.S. map
Thu, May 31 2018BERLIN/FRANKFURT — A report that U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pursue German carmakers until there are no Mercedes-Benz rolling down New York's Fifth Avenue dented shares in the luxury car manufacturers on Thursday. An excerpt from German magazine Wirtschaftswoche's article, which cited several unnamed European and U.S. diplomats but did not include any direct quotes, could not be independently verified, while a U.S. Embassy spokesman in Berlin referred questions to Washington. The news and current affairs magazine said Trump had told French President Emmanuel Macron in April that he aimed to push German carmakers out of the United States altogether. Macron's administration in Paris declined to comment on the report. The Trump administration last week opened a so-called Section 232 trade investigation into vehicle imports, which could result in a 25 percent tariff on cars on the same "national security" grounds Washington used to impose metals duties in March. This could destroy exports by German carmakers, which control 90 percent of the U.S. premium market and are the biggest European Union exporters of cars to the United States. BMW owns Rolls-Royce, while Daimler has Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen controls Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche and Audi. Daimler, BMW and Audi declined comment. Porsche was not immediately available for comment. BMW shares were trading 0.5 percent lower at 0939 GMT, while Daimler and VW's shares were down 1 percent and 1.6 percent respectively, underperforming Germany's blue-chip DAX. Trump has railed against German carmakers before. And in early 2017, in an interview with German newspaper Bild, he said he would impose 35 percent tariffs on imported cars. At the time, the president called Germany a great car producer but said that the business relationship with the United States was an unfair one-way street. Germany's auto industry association VDA says its members exported 657,000 vehicles to North America last year, with total exports of vehicle components, cars, engines, as well as second-hand vehicles totaling 31.2 billion euros in 2016. Imports from the United States to Germany amounted to 7.4 billion euros, meaning a trade deficit of 23.8 billion euros the VDA's latest available figures show. However, German brands also have huge factories in the United States, where they built 804,000 cars last year, VDA said, providing jobs for U.S. workers. Berlin has reacted angrily to the U.S.
