Beautiful  old 1964 VW Bug. I bought this from a friend who had this since the late 1990s. Her husband surprised her with it for her birthday with a big bow. He bought it from the original or second owner (not sure) who also bought it for his wife and had it painted in approx 1996 in its original color VW Seeblau. I have a touch up applicator with the paint code. The guy who does my painting was able to find it in his computer and was surprised. I was going to have him paint the two areas on the drivers side fenders ( see pictures ) .  There is no bondo on these areas but thick single stage paint. The dent in the rear is from a tree limb and the previous owner did not know how the fron fender was damage. I will let the new owner have these areas painted and will provide the applicator with the code.

The lady I bought it from believes it is the original engine and mileage at 65,000.  I have had a VW Thing, several convertible and hard top Bugs and several campers busses. This is the oldest and most original. The car has the original jack (needs cleaning) and tool kit and original books. The car spent most of its life in Colorado and the pan is excellent as is the rest of the body. The front spare holds air but should be replaced as it looks to be old. The car came with 4 white wall flappers. They are fake and two of them were removed. I have ordered 4 brand new ones (Atlas Brand) which I wil include with the car. They make the car look beautiful in my opinion.

My VW mechanic did a compression test and it was very good. The car runs and shifts well. IT has the original 6 volt system. The dash is beautiful with a removable radio cut out from the factory  if you want a radio. I flushed the gas tank which was in very nice shape but had been sitting and added fresh gas. My mechanicdid and oil change and  removed and cleaned the carb and changed fuel filter. I will have him change the oil, adjust the valves, and add new plugs. He replaced the heater cable and the heat works really well for an older aircooled vehicle.

The interior and door panels are brand new (TMI) as is the rear carpet. The headliner is presentable but shows wear and some staining (looks like over glue) The headline has separated from the rear above the passenger window. There is a bamboo shelf that is brittle but can still be used. I would replace it. My mechanic was not sure the front headlights were original but they work and look great. The glass is all in great shape and most of the rubber around the windows is in good shape. The front firewall carpet shows wear around the edges and could be repalced. The wiper motor is frozen and might be repaired but I would repalce it. They can be purchased for 35 - 100 dollars on the VW Samba site. The interior side ceiling light is inoperative. The rims are aftermarket Porsche style and look great and the tires are in good condition.

Someone always asks will this car make it to the east or west coasts. My answer would be maybe but I would not drive it that far and it is not very fast. I do fine at 5500 feet but you must use the gears. The brakes are very good and the master cyclinder was replaced.

I take very good care of all my vehicles. I do not want to trade and do not have a By It Now. Will not disclose reserve. This is a very nice example of a 1964 Bug.

** The passenger side mirror has cracked glass which I will repair. It is off the car. I will help with meeting your shipper if you win the auction. Shipping paid by buyer.

2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo Convertible

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Less Flower, More Power
Pardon our political incorrectness for a moment, but the Volkswagen New Beetle was, undeniably, a "chick car." There was almost nothing that the New Beetle offered to enthusiasts (of either gender), and by the end of its run, VW had even stripped all of the exciting engines from the car's lineup. Looking to resurrect some of the excitement behind the Beetle, the third generation of the iconic car ditched the cuteness when the coupe debuted for 2012, and now the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible aims to show how much fun drivers can have without a top.
Celebrating almost six and a half decades of the Beetle convertible, Volkswagen is offering a trio of distinct special editions that celebrate three of the car's most popular decades (the '50s, '60s and '70s), but as one of the unofficial cars of the 1960s, it would almost be a crime not to test this version, right? Besides, this is also the only special edition to get the turbocharged engine. While our first drive of the 2013 Beetle Convertible was in the fuel-miser TDI variation, our two-week romp in the 2013 Beetle Convertible '60s Edition came just as peak convertible weather was kicking off down in Florida.

VW delivers first XL1 in Germany

Mon, Jun 9 2014

Volkswagen has delivered the first XL1 diesel plug-in hybrid to a customer from Berlin, Germany. Dr. Christian Malorny received his Oryx White XL1 with black and grey interior from Volkswagen Germany's director of sales and marketing for passenger cars, Thomas Zahn, at the company's Transparent Factory in Dresden. The super-efficient XL1, which first debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, is powered by a 0.8-liter, two-cylinder TDI engine and electric motor, with electricity supplied by a 5.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission. With a curb weight of 1,753 pounds and a drag coefficient of just 0.189, the XL1 is rated at 261 miles per gallon on the lenient European cycle. It is capable of traveling solely on electric power for up to 31 miles. "The XL1 has inspired me from the beginning and I am very pleased to now be driving my own," said Malorny, (translated). "With its visionary design and high-tech appearance, Volkswagen has dared something new and innovative." The futuristic XL1 seats two passengers, and can carry 4.2 cubic feet of cargo. It features a carbon fiber reinforced plastic body, and a low center of gravity. It is diminutive of stature, as you can see in the photo, measuring 153.1 inches long, 65.6 inches wide, and just 45.4 inches tall. It is being billed as the world's most efficient production car, but it's unlikely Dr. Malorny will be making his money back on fuel savings any time soon; despite the first sale and the vehicles appearing on the German VW site, Volkswagen has not officially announced the price tag for the XL1. In the past, we've heard it will cost approximately $145,000. Only 250 are being produced. Check out our drive review of the Volkswagen XL1 here or read on for more information in the Google-translated press release, below. 2023 CES Editors' Picks

Mon, Jan 9 2023

Over the past few years, it has become more and more clear that the Consumer Electronics Show is a car show. And this year that reality is more clear than ever. Not only did established automakers show off seriously important vehicles, but a traditional electronics company brought a car that gives an idea of its intents (with the help of establishment car company). With so many car reveals, we had to rank our favorites. Our picks for this show are entirely electric. Or at least, they are on paper, since many are concepts. Considering the name of the show, it would be a little strange if they weren't. In fact, not only are many of our favorites concepts, they all are save for one. See how they shook out below. VW ID7 camo View 28 Photos 5. Volkswagen ID.7 "The ID.7 definitely got lost in the crowd at CES. That it was camouflaged definitely didn't help, even if that camo was electroluminescent (BMW trumped it big time with its color-changing Dee). Nevertheless, this is a close-to-production hatchback-ed sedan, not unlike today's Arteon, with an extra-long wheelbase courtesy its EV architecture. It should be a solid answer to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, and even if people obviously prefer SUVs now, VW says there is still a market for sedans. I know I'd probably prefer one." –Senior Editor, West Coast and Reviews, James Riswick Peugeot Inception concept View 12 Photos 4. Peugeot Inception "It's not often that show debuts surprise us. While Peugeot teased the Inception ahead of CES, its unveiling seemed almost incidental. But just look at this thing; it's like an electric French Mustang with someplace important to be. I don't buy into the stupid 'It's not a wheel!' thing that Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson described as providing a video-game-like drive experience, but that bit of silliness aside, this is a really promising design study. Give us more of these and fewer tall boxes, please." –Associate Editor Byron Hurd Afeela prototype from Sony Honda Mobility View 11 Photos 3. Afeela by Sony Honda “Ever since Sony showed off an impressively put-together concept car at CES a few years ago, IÂ’ve been anticipating the companyÂ’s next move. Apparently, that next move is “Afeela.” No, I donÂ’t love the name. The specs from SonyÂ’s original concept car give me hope that this prototype sportback (itÂ’s a hatchback!) will be fun to drive, though.
