1964 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible

This car is a beauty as it is finished in professionally applied PPG Ruby Red paint inside and out with a Sewfine white vinyl interior. The sedan has been converted to 8 volts for reliability and has a rebuilt 1967 transmission. All mechanical systems were new or replaced. Nothing has been done to the car to prevent changing it back to a stock 40 HP engine or 6 volts. It was fully restored body off in 2004 by D&B Restoration, a long time custom body shop here in NW Arkansas. No body filler was used. I am a retired VWoA Volkswagen dealership technician from the 1970's. No rust or dents anywhere. Always garaged since restoration. Paint is great and could use a few very minor touch ups. Here is your chance to own a classic VW at an affordable price!  I bought this VW from a local Doctor who had the car restored in 2004.

It has been completely restored. Wolfsburg West parts were used during the restoration.  Multiple Volkswagen Show 1st Place and Best of Show  winner. You can be ready for the upcoming VW Show season with only a wash and wax job! Or have a perfect daily driver. Original stock configuration except for rebuilt 1348cc engine and 1967 transaxle. It also has a period correct complete Judson Supercharger! Drives 65-70 without a problem.  A nice, tight VW that you could drive anywhere. The heater and defroster works great. The Speedometer/Trip Odometer was refurbished and reset to 0 miles.

It does need a new headliner or repaired. There is is rip above the rear window and the headliner is dirty, look at the pictures to see the problem. It was like that when I bought the car. I am including new headliner material that can be use to patch or make a new panel to repair it.

It also has a couple of minor electrical gremlins. Sometimes the horn will work and the backup light doesn’t work every time. And I think the fog light switch might be bad. It has a Sun tachometer mounted to the lower left of the steering wheel, but needs a sending unit.

VW going turbo-only in 3 to 4 years

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole. VW made fuel economy gains, while also giving a linear, non-laggy turbo experience that it has replicated, model-after-model, to this day.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Volkswagen's executive Vice President of Group Quality, Marc Trahan, told the paper that, "We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that it's in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum."
Really, it's hard to get teary-eyed about either of these engines going away. VW has access to smaller powerplants that could easily match the performance of the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 3.6 V6, while gobbling up less fuel and providing a better driving experience. What we are sad about is that a similar statement about the extinction of NA engines came from the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, Joe Bakaj. We'd certainly get teary-eyed over a world without Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8.

VW readying two-row CUV concept for Detroit

Wed, Dec 10 2014

We're likely getting yet another glimpse of Volkswagen's future crossover at the upcoming 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, in January. According to Automotive News, two anonymous sources within the automaker indicate a CUV concept will be shown there. The concept is said to be a five-passenger preview of the brand's future seven-seat model. Previous versions of the crossover have carried the name CrossBlue (pictured above), but there was no indication whether or not that would continue. The original three-row concept debuted at the 2013 auto show in Detroit, and VW followed it up with the CrossBlue Coupe Concept in Shanghai later that year. In early 2014, the company announced the CUV would go into production sometime in 2016, along with plans to invest $7 billion in North America over the next five years. During the summer, the automaker made things even more official when it declared plans to invest $900 million to build a 538,000-square-foot expansion into its Chattanooga, TN, factory to assemble the new model. Production of the crossover was slated to begin by the end of 2016, at the time. According to Automotive News, even more changes in VW's CUV lineup are on the way. The Tiguan is reportedly getting an update next year that could be joined by coupe and long-wheelbase variants, as well.

Wagons make a bit of a comeback, with new models, sales on the rise

Thu, Jan 10 2019

Consider this an official invitation to hop on the wagon bandwagon. There's still tons of room because, well, it's a wagon (and market share is still extremely small). But according to new data, the segment is growing. According to a report from Bloomberg, using data from Edmunds.com, roughly 211,600 Americans purchased wagons in 2018. That is technically down from the 237,600 sold in 2017, but wagon sales in the U.S. are up 29 percent from where they were five years ago. It's also the third year in a row that wagon sales broke the 200,000 mark. The sales trends have been somewhat representative of the availability of wagons. New models have debuted during the past 5 years and therefore offer more opportunity at more brands to buy wagons. In addition to more modest cars such as the Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen, several luxury and performance brands are offering wagons today, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Volvo and Buick. (Bloomberg's headlines make the point that "crossovers are for the Kardashians," and wagons are just, well, classier.) This uptick in brand-name availability, as well as extremely well-executed design on most of the wagons currently available, has helped increase the segment's desirability. That, and its ability to better accomplish the same tasks at hand while standing out from the crossover and SUV crowd. Still, the posted numbers represent a small fraction of the total vehicles sold. According to the data, wagons only held a 1.4 percent market share in 2017, the segment's best recent year. Wagons hold a steadfast place in America's past, and they're writing an interesting new story. With the downturn in traditional cars, they may continue to create an unexpected narrative.
