I bought this car last September from the son of a lady who owned it since 1965. I do not know much about the car other than what I was told and the documents/numbers I've researched and found. I have had the car a short time but times have hit me pretty hard and now Im forced to sell my baby. Everything on this car works except the windshield wipers (needs new motor), I only drive it on sunny summer days so it has never been an issue for me. It resides in a climate controlled storage in Grand Junction, Co when not being driven.
PAINT:
The car is RUST FREE, not a spec, not even surface rust.
It has original paint according to the PO, no respray of the exterior or interior. I believe it has been resprayed under the front hood though. It has slight oxidization on the roof and hood (minor but I want to be thorough). The front hood has nic's in the paint from Colorado roads and scratches along the passenger side of the car. It still shines perfectly for its age of paint and the cool factor of originality.
Body/Chasis:
Original body panels (fenders/hoods/doors etc.), Original pans and heater channels (still look AMAZING too! ZERO signs of rust). Original engine, but was rebuilt during a nut and bolt restoration (hence the non-original color scheme).
Electrical:
Wiring was redone and upgraded to 12v and a new aircraft style fuse panel was used to keep the NOS-style look but still perform. The ORIGINAL factory radio still works and is actually the ONLY radio in the car. All lighting (ext and int) works, and so does the turn signal cancel!
Interior:
The interior of the car is in great shape with no holes in the seats, carpet, door panels or headliner. The highback seats were installed to give the 96 year old previous owner better support and they are not original to the car.
The nitty gritty:
I will not ship this car, but I will help the buyers shipper load the car safely. A deposit of $2000 will need to be made within 24hrs of auction ending with the residual being paid within 48hrs of auction end. I will hold the car in my storage for any buyer up to 1 week of the close of this auction but payment will still need to be made within the specified time frame. I've set a reserve at what is reasonable for a car of this calibur. I'm not looking to get rich on this beauty but Im not looking to give it away either. I have the car listed on multiple sites and locally..... If my number is met outside this auction I reserve the right to end the auction early. LOTS of photos, please ask questions prior to bidding.

2nd annual Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards revealed
Tue, Jan 13 2015There was some absolutely fantastic auto advertising in 2014, ranging from funny to inspiring. Marking the best of it from the past year, the Second Annual One Show Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards were announced during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (full disclosure: Autoblog was among the award's sponsors, and Editor-in-Chief Sharon Carty was a voter). Unlike previously, there were no brands with dominance over the list this time. Presented by The One Club, the awards have an international scope and hand out honors in a variety of categories. In the Broadcast TV group, there were three winners this year. First, there was The Scripted Life from Audi for the Q3 about breaking out of life's monotony. Also, Dad's Sixth Sense from Hyundai marketed the safety features in the Genesis. Finally, Unbreakable Drivers showed manly men being tested for the Toyota Hilux in Australia. The Online Video prize went to the fantastic The Epic Split spot from Volvo Trucks starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. The best Interactive ad was the Honda video titled The Other Side for the Civic Type R, and the Experiential Advertising nod was for the Volkswagen Eyes on the Road clip that showed the dangers of texting and driving to a theater full of moviegoers in Hong Kong. Finally, the Public Choice Award went to the BMW commercial called Hello Future using the words of sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke for the i8. In the award not for videos, Jeep won the Print/Outdoor category for its Upside Down campaign. Check the ads out below, which show different animals when upside down. Also, look farther down for all of the winning videos and read their full announcements. 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
Thu, Jan 29 2015Volkswagen calls its 2015 Jetta "refined, redesigned," and countless man-hours have gone into its re-engineering, but you'd need to crawl all over the car, unbolt most of the body, drive it or spend some time on VW's website to fathom the changes. That's why we wrote, "2015 Volkswagen Jetta is new, we promise," when we first saw the car in New York last April. While we wait for a sweeping next-generation overhaul to come, the marquee elements for now are the new structure underneath designed to win an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating, fuel economy increases and a heavily reworked 2.0 TDI diesel engine. Plus, there's ornamental detailing around the body and updated interior, and the revamped trim package and accessories matrix promises to provide more value. That makes it a better buy than the 2014 model, assuming it can find buyers ready to appreciate the subtleties. Outside, improved aerodynamic prowess is the primary goal, and almost all of the visual refresh works to further that aim. A new grille with three cross fins sits atop a slipperier bumper and air intakes. On models with the 1.8T gas engine and new 2.0 TDI diesel, the grille is fitted with a shutter to decrease drag and, on the diesel, speed up the engine warming. There are sleeker rain gutters inside the A-pillars and paneling under the body by the rear axles. Attending to airflow in back is an altered decklid reshaped with an integrated spoiler. Among the other changes are optional adaptive bi-Xenon headlights lined with 15 LED running lights and a chrome strip of brightwork. New fog lights are set in the flanks of the lower lip, and LED taillights can be had on the GLI and Hybrid models, with a tweaked VW logo sitting in between. The illuminating upgrades continue inside with ambient lighting and a crisper dash cluster display. Those cabin changes are joined by an optional "tunnel" theme for the gauges, a new steering wheel design with piano black accents and chrome, redesigned vent controls and new fabric options. Changes to the front substructure from the bumper to the front doors, and strengthened A-pillars combined to win the 2015 sedan a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. We're here to focus on the diesel model, and the updated EA288 2.0 TDI engine and its modular packaging is the most visceral highlight for 2015, inserting new numbers on every line of the spec sheet compared to its predecessor, save for cylinder bore spacing.
2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet
Thu, 07 Mar 2013The Golf VI's Last Hurrah Is Pure Niche
This was in the heart of the ultra-chic Côte d'Azur during winter. The car to be tested was the not-for-North America 2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet. Prevailing weather conditions here this time of year are bizarrely pleasant, as though a dome of Swarovski crystal has been placed over the entire region to protect it from any real winter spoiling things. And the zippy Golf R Cabriolet is a sports car designed precisely for this area's preciously narrow winding streets, as well as for the lofty budgets of its property owners.
So then why was it snowing like we were in northern Michigan? The weather front hit from the north like a swift kick to the Jordaches. The roof was open on this Candy White Golf R Cabrio and I, as is my wont, was determined through thick or thin to keep it retracted. It had been raining and sometimes sleeting like the End of Days, but I kept the lid cracked because the 261-horsepower cabrio - the most powerful convertible ever built by Volkswagen - was snipping along nicely as the bad weather blew over my head and wetted only the rear headrests.
