Up for sale is my 61 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. I bought this car 12 years ago, and it was a car that had sat inside a dry warehouse for many years. It was believed to be a one owner car. We did a little tinkering, and got the car started and drove it up the road a couple of times. We decided to do a complete frame on restoration of the car, and make it like new, since it was such a perfect example of a rust free 61 VW. Even though it did not need them, we had new floor pans installed, just so the car would be perfect. We sent the car to the best VW mechanic in our area, and had the original 1200 engine completely rebuilt (the engine is still at his shop, will pick it up prior to sale of vehicle, and it has not ever been installed, so it has 0 miles since the rebuild.). I have a receipt for the engine rebuild, along with new clutch, exhaust system, and tune-up parts. Also has a new fuel tank (never installed). It has all new brake parts (new drums, shoes, brake hoses, etc,). It has a new windshield still in the box, and new windshield trim, also still in the box. It has a lot of other brand new parts that were bought for it, still in their packaging. That includes new fenders, taillight assemblies, firewall insulation, new fender beading, new door handles w/keys, hood release cable with knob, new chrome handle, latch, and receiver for trunk, new chrome tee handle for engine compartment, new bumper brackets (front and rear) and bolt kits, new turn signal assemblies, and most all seals and gaskets for repainting the car, etc. All the new parts are still in their original packaging, and I have receipts for those also. I have a lot of money already invested in this car. I was not going to spare any expense on it. I just wanted to make it perfect. This is one of the finest examples of a 61 VW that there is for restoring. It had been sent to the body shop to be completely restored, and they started on it (put the floor pans in properly, etc.), then quit working on it. I finally had them send the vehicle back to me, and I put it in a storage room until I could find someone else to do the restoration  The years went by, and that never happened. Finally, this year, I lost my storage for it, so now I am sadly forced to sell it. My loss is definitely your gain. This is a wonderful project, and like I said before, it is one of the finest examples of a 61 bug convertible that you will find, before being restored. The car was 99% rust free to begin with. All the parts are there for it (glass, top, etc.). The only things missing are the bumpers (I was going to get new ones), the radio (it did not have one when I got it), the starter (used it on another car over the years), the battery (I bought a new one for it when I got it, but after all these years it was bad, so I disposed of it when I moved), the running boards, and one headlight assembly. I sure hate to part with this vehicle, but at the present time, I have nowhere to keep it. It is taking up space in my garage that belongs to another one of my vehicles, that I had to store in a friend's garage for a few weeks, until I sell this car. I had a picture in my mind of how this car was going to look done, and it would have been my dream to have been able to finish it. It is a completely original car, with the original interior, and top (both of which were usable before it was disassembled). It still has the original 1200 engine, and the six volt electrical system. It has a heater, which I think was an option in 61. I intended to keep it completely original. The car was originally white with a black top, and brick red interior. Someone had painted it light yellow at one time. If you are the winning bidder, I will need a $500.00 non refundable deposit within 24 hours of auction end, and the remainder of the payment within 7 days of the auction end. I will accept cash, cashier's check, or bank transfer only. The car and title will only be released once payment has cleared. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Good luck, and happy bidding. If you are looking for an old VW convertible, this is the one to build. I am so sad to have to part with it. It brought back so much nostalgia when I got to ride down the road in it, prior to disassembling it for restoration. I would have loved to have completed it.

Volkswagen Group previews its wares on eve of Geneva show

Mon, 05 Mar 2012

The Volkswagen Group is comprised of 11 brands producing 240 vehicles across 49 factories throughout the world. So the best way to show off the range of the VW family is to cram a few thousand journalists and VIPs into a massive makeshift stand to outline the Group's goals, what's in the pipeline and what you'll be able to buy later this year.
To that end, VW pulled out all the stops on the eve of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, bringing along 10 vehicles from across the range. We'll be delving into the details of each over the next two days of show coverage, but before that happens, you can read all about what we saw tonight from the cheap seats after the break.

Volkswagen rolls out all-new Polo R WRC

Sat, Jan 17 2015

Volkswagen may have ruled out producing a road-going Polo more potent than the new GTI, but on the rally stage, the Polo R WRC has proven absolutely dominant. Introduced to the World Rally Championship in 2013, the Polo R won ten out of the baker's dozen rallies in its debut season, and all but one last year to win both titles two years running. That's quite an act to follow, and the task falls to the machine you see here. The new second-generation Polo R WRC was just revealed at Autostadt in Wolfsburg. The rally machine has been substantially reworked for 2015, with a new livery, new bodywork and new oily bits. In fact, Volkswagen says it has revised three quarters of the components, and while it has not yet detailed the "many new ideas [implemented] under the bonnet," it has identified the hydraulic gearbox as "the biggest innovation." Further details are still to come, but this is our first look at the new machine with which Sebastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen – who finished last year's championship in first, second and third, respectively – will tackle this year's championship, starting with the Rally Monte Carlo on January 22-25. FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) New technology, new design: presenting the second generation Polo R WRC - World premiere of the 318-hp Polo R WRC in Wolfsburg - Member of the Board, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, launches title defence - WRC kicks off with the iconic Rally Monte Carlo from 22–25 January Wolfsburg (15 January 2015). In top form, both technically and visually: Volkswagen presented the second generation of the Polo R WRC in Autostadt, Wolfsburg. The works team from Wolfsburg has its sights set firmly on another successful defence of its titles in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with a new car and a new look. Volkswagen completed a clean sweep of all the World Championship titles when the Polo R WRC made its debut in 2013, before repeating this impressive feat last season. Continuity is the key to the driving line-up for 2015: double world champions Sebastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) and team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Floene (N/N) will roll down the starting ramp and head onto the first special stage of the year for Volkswagen at the legendary Rally Monte Carlo on 22 January. "The new Polo R WRC has undergone intense further development, both on the inside and the outside," said Dr.

The VW emissions carnage assessment with an upside

Mon, Sep 28 2015

Bombs cause destruction. Even if they're intelligently guided and pinpoint, there's always collateral damage. The strange Volkswagen brew, which is still spontaneously combusting in plain sight, will result in aftershocks for years. And the professional end of the corporation's top leadership will not be the only casualties. Blows are striking shareholder confidence, the residual value of the cars involved, consumer confidence, and the German economy itself. A hard rain's going to fall elsewhere, too. Here are just four damage assessment areas. The High-Compression Past and Low-Compassion Future of Diesels Despite European and especially German manufacturers' high belief that diesel engines were a way to light-duty automotive salvation, VW's scandal started the last nail in the fuel's coffin. Regulations both in the U.S. and in Europe for particulates and nitrogen oxide (NOx) are getting much harder to meet, and this is at the very core of VW's deception. Even with the high-cost exhaust after-treatment systems, sky-high fuel pressure, and sophisticated electronics, the inescapable NOx realities won't be washable by technology in an affordable way. German engineering pride will have to work a real miracle to meet these looming regs and the stain of VW's scandal did the whole diesel movement no favors. Perhaps not so ironically, the E.U. adopted more stringent emission standards this year, which closely mimic the U.S. Tier 2, Bin 5 figures phased in for 2008. Indeed, when VW announced it was able to meet the stringent US NOx emissions standards in 2009 for its diesel engines without urea injection as an exhaust after-treatment, it was a particularly high point of engineering pride for the company. No other manufacturer had figured out how to do so. One Honda official at the time remarked that they had simply no idea how VW was achieving this feat and Honda couldn't come close. Well, neither could VW. On a macro scale, European cities are also starting to face government fines for air quality violations. This is forcing those cities to find various ways to cut smog-related causes like tailpipe emissions. In fact, Paris has gone to the length of restricting car use on a sliding scale when smog persists, while electric cars are free to roam. France's longer and larger plan is banning diesel fuel for light-duty transportation entirely. But why was there a frothy focus by the European manufacturers on diesels in the first place?
