1958 VW Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Up for auction is this beautiful
1958 Beetle Convertible. This vehicle has been in the family for more than
40 years and on the road for only a few of those years. As you can see from the
pictures this vehicle is in nearly flawless condition. Let me share with you a
few details about this car. As I stated, this car has seen very little driving since the
late ‘60s early ‘70s. From the time it spent sitting in high-and-dry storage it
was in need of a complete restoration. This restoration took place last year
and took nearly the entire year to complete. A few of the more important things
to note on this car is that it has ZERO
rust repair done to it because the car was rust-free top to bottom!
Chrome - All
chrome such as bumpers, handles, bezels, etc. are original and were re-chrome
plated. This is not a cheapo restoration. This is top-notch all the way.
Body - Again,
this ‘58 was a rust-free car so there is no need to wonder about the quality of
the panel repairs because none were needed. All of the sheet metal is original
VW with no aftermarket fenders or modifications. The car was completely
stripped inside and out to bare metal before refinishing it to its original
color. The paint shows incredibly well! If you are going to restore a car back
to its original color and that color is black, your paint shop better know what
they are doing and this team did. I can’t say enough about the quality of the
work and the incredible job they did, which is why I chose not to go with a
body shop but an actual restoration shop for this most important step in the
overall project. The cost was considerably higher to go with them but the work
matches the price.
Interior - Simply
put... Beautiful. Original to this ‘58 Convertible was 2-tone leatherette in
coral red and sand beige. Many refer to it as salmon and off-white. Call it
what you will, either way it is still one of the most sought-after color
combinations. The carpeting is black loop with sewn piping. As with the body, no expense was spared and
it shows!
Chassis/transmission/engine/brakes
- The chassis is all original with everything being replaced to make it a
perfect daily drivable vehicle. Starting with the front beam, king and link
pins were not worn but were tight from sitting for so many years. To make it
drive and steer perfectly down the road I had both of them replaced with
original VW components. The transmission is the original unit and shifts
perfectly through the gears. All that was needed in this department was a fresh
oil change and new axle boots. The complete braking system was replaced front
to rear including new lines, hoses, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hardware
kits and shoes. The engine is a #s matching, completely rebuilt (by Doug
Nichols, a 50+ year factory VW mechanic) and correct 36HP. The motor was not
only rebuilt but so was every component on the motor including the carburetor,
distributor, fuel pump, and generator. Again, as with everything else on the car, no
expense was spared here either and everything shows perfectly!
A few other things to mention... tires are brand new, mounted on correct matching '58 wheels which boast the 15" convertible beauty rings and large logo hub caps. The Convertible top as well as headliner are also brand new and original color coded to match this '58. The original book which came with the car is included. The front cover is detached - otherwise it is in good condition.
If you are looking for a 100% completely restored daily
driver, this is the car to strongly consider. This car has less than 250 miles
since it was restored. There is no visible wear on the brake, clutch or gas pedals. Everything on the car works properly as it was intended to from the factory and
it drives down the road very well.
Feel free to ask any questions regarding this superb vehicle
and I will answer them to the best of my ability or pass them on to the
restoration shop or VW mechanic.
The reserve price is set according to true/realistic market
value and is a reasonable number for the quality of the car. I will not pull
the auction for a buy-it-now price. I want to keep this fair for all interested
parties.
If you are bidding on this vehicle and will need it to be shipped to your location, I will assist with the shipping in any way possible on my end. HOWEVER, I will NOT set up the shipping for you.
If you are close enough to come inspect this Beetle first-hand, feel free to set up a day and time to come look at it.
Please note: If you do not have the cash in hand to complete this sale, please do not bid on my auction.

Volkswagen Routan dead, pour out a sippy cup for your little homies
Thu, 28 Mar 2013America's minivan wolfpack has just gotten smaller by one. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen officials have confirmed what we've suspected for some time - the Routan is dead. Essentially a lightly reworked version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Routan actually hasn't been rolling off of Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario production line at all this year, but VW had yet to confirm its discontinuation. However, Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW America, has reportedly admitted that the Routan is being axed, with remaining units expected to be funneled into corporate functions for "internal purposes."
The move isn't unexpected - the Routan has never been a big seller, with just 57,650 examples moved since sales began in 2008 - peak yearly sales totaled under 16,000 units, and that was back in 2010. And while many have talked of the minivan segment shrinking, Automotive News points out that the segment actually grew 14 percent last year to 597,118 units, though it should be noted that most segments have been on sales upticks as the US economy chugs out of its recession.
So, is volume-crazy Volkswagen prepared to pass on large family vehicle sales? Probably not - the German automaker has signaled that it plans to build a three-row crossover in North America soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if it looks an awful lot like the Crossblue Concept from January's Detroit Auto Show - minus the fancy plug-in diesel powertrain.

My year in EVs: 8 electrics that are changing the car industry
Wed, Dec 1 2021The year 2021 will go down as an inflection point in the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles. It's when many much-anticipated models became reality. No longer sketches or sketchy prototypes, electric vehicles appeared from all corners with everything from the Lucid Air to Ford Mustang Mach-E changing how we think about transportation. I managed to drive a lot of them, and as I went through my notes, I realized IÂ’ve got a mini memoir of the seminal EVs of 2021. HereÂ’s my take on eight of them. Hummer EV Easily the most over-the-top EV I tested this year. The 1,000-hp super truck lived up to the hype with its domineering presence, stupendous power and simply being a reincarnated Hummer. I took it for a short spin on- and off-road at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, Mich., and was impressed with the airy cabin, removable sky panels and expansive touchscreens. Yes, I crab walked, which felt like steering a pontoon boat, though I can see why it would be useful. Lucid Air Dream Performance The most beautiful sedan I tested all year, EV or otherwise. Unlike the futuristic Mercedes EQS — which is quite attractive — LucidÂ’s car is a blend of mid-century modern interior aesthetics and classic European exterior styling. When I walked up for my test drive, someone who IÂ’m pretty sure was comedian Jon Lovitz was sitting inside and taking it all in. As it sat in the valet of a hotel in a wealthy suburban enclave north of Detroit, the Lucid drew more attention than any of the Mercedes, Cadillacs or Lexus models passing by. The driving experience was enveloping. Starting at $169,000 for the Performance model (reservations are closed), the Lucid I sampled packed 1,111 hp and 471 miles of range. From the precise steering to the comfortable suspension, the dynamics were spot-on. It's a formidable product, and all the more impressive given itÂ’s LucidÂ’s first. Chevy Bolt EV The Bolt was the most pleasant surprise for me. It handled well, offered low-to-the-ground hot hatch dynamics and the steering was dialed-in. Adding a crossover variant for the new generation was a smart play. On a summer morning where I went to a first drive of the Ford Bronco at an off-road course, my hour-long commute in the Bolt was an enjoyable appetizer. The Bolt was also my biggest disappointment due to its extensive recalls for fire risk. Ironically, I had the Bolt in my driveway when the initial recall went out for the previous generation (2017-19).
