Hello, I am selling my 1957 Volkswagen Beetle. I recently purchase a
1969 Porsche 912 that needs work and I can't keep both cars.
I have been a Volkswagen enthusiast my entire life, owning a red '67 as my first car. I've always had a desire to find another one. After about a year of searching I found this rare car in California. Just over 900 miles since a full restoration. My local Volkswagen specialist says its the nicest he has ever seen. Waves, thumps up, and people asking about the car are common when you take it for a ride. This car is very special and you almost never see one finished to this level of perfection. The body lines are laser straight as if it just left the factory. The interior smells new, the wool headliner is perfect. It is so nice I almost feel bad driving it. The car was restored by a gentleman named, Mike Mathison. Everything was disassembled and reconditioned or replaced with a factory correct part. The body was stripped down to bare metal then painted with correct enamel paint: as per factory spec. The horizon blue paint job alone totaled $6500. Jack Bruck and Chip Knight are credited for the paint and bodywork. The restoration took 7 years and was finished in 1993. Since then, the car has been rarely driven and stored indoors. It has no rust. This is one of the finest examples of a 57 oval window and as near perfect as you will find anywhere. One of last 1957 oval sedans to leave the factory in Germany before rear window change. See Vin# and body# 573386 Many N.O.S. parts Original Owners manuals from Germany and U.S. 15 x 5:60 Firestone black wall tires Full factory tool kit and spare Recent alignment check and service. Fully detailed Brand new Cocoa mats Engine runs strong, will cruise at 65mph+ I
have receipts for all the work done to the car. I also have certificate
of authenticity/options from Volkswagen. You will be very happy to
own this rare piece of Volkswagen history! It will be a great
investment just like the early 356, 356-A Porsche's have become. If you
have any questions call Tom @ 941-737-3618. Do not bid unless you are going to pay. No new bidders or zero feedback. I am selling the car as is, with no warranty or responsibility once the car has been paid for. Seller reserves the right to end auction early for any reason. A $1,000 deposit is due within 3 days of auction close. Buyer responsible for vehicle pick-up and delivery.**Another one of Mike Mathison's Volkswagen's, a 1952 green sedan sold on eBay (#140869568421) Nov. 2012 for about 40k. Both my 57 and his 52 are pictured on vwvortex.com with pictures and more of the history. If you goggle Mike Mathison Volkswagon you will find a link to vwvortex.com, Oct, 2012 with the pictures of the 52 green one that sold for 40k and the my 57 listed there. |

The mood at this year’s Paris Motor Show: Quiet
Tue, Oct 2 2018The Paris Motor Show, held every other year in the early fall, typically kicks off the annual cavalcade of automotive conclaves, one that traverses the globe between autumn and spring, introducing projective, conceptual and production-ready vehicle models to the international automotive press, automotive aficionados and a public hungry for news of our increasingly futuristic mobility enterprise. But this year, at the press preview days for the show, the grounds of the Porte de Versailles convention center felt a bit more sparsely populated than usual. This was not simply a subjective sensation, or one influenced by the center's atypically dispersed assemblage of seven discrete buildings, which tends to spread out the cars and the crowds. There were not only fewer new vehicles being premiered in Paris this year, there were fewer manufacturers there to display them. Major mainstream European OEM stalwarts such as Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Nissan and Volkswagen chose to sit out Paris this year, as did boutique manufacturers like Bentley, Aston Martin and Lamborghini. This is not simply based in some antipathy on the part of the German, British and Italian manufacturers toward the French market — though for a variety of historical and societal reasons that market may be more dominated by vehicles produced domestically than others. Rather, it is part of a larger trend in the industry. Last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would not be participating in the flagship North American International Auto Show in 2019 — and that it might not return. Other brands including Jaguar/Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Mazda and nearly every exotic carmaker have also departed the Detroit show. Some of these brands will still appear in the city in which the show is taking place, and host an event offsite, to capitalize on the presence of a large number of reporters in attendance. And even brands that do have a presence at the show have shifted their vehicle introductions to the days before the official press opening in an attempt to stand out from the crowd. In many ways, this makes sense. With an expanding number of automakers, with diversification and niche-ification of models and with wholesale shifts that necessitate the introduction of EV or autonomous sub-brands, there is a growing sense that, with everyone shouting at the same time, no one can be heard.
VW planning 20 new plug-in models for China
Thu, Oct 30 2014With just about everything getting super-sized for China, Volkswagen is following suit with its plug-in vehicle plans for the world's most populous country. VW, Europe's largest carmaker, is looking to sell more than 20 different plug-in models in China within the next four years, Reuters says, citing comments Volkswagen Group China head Jochem Heizmann made in Shanghai. The company is hoping that translates to sales of more than 100,000 plug-ins in China by the end of the decade. Go big or go home, right? There's a huge plug-in vehicle opportunity in China, especially given the bad pollution situation in cities like Beijing and Shanghai and the Chinese government's incentives for plug-in vehicle buyers. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn said at the Beijing Motor Show this spring that the company would spend $25 billion on at least a half-dozen plug-in models for China by 2018. VW will start selling the e-Golf in China this year and the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid in 2015. VW said in August that it would start selling the e-Golf in the US for about $35,500 in November. That's a $6,500 price hike from the base Nissan Leaf.
Carlex Criollo is a Volkswagen Multivan shrine to Alcantara, leather and... fish
Wed, 10 Jul 2013A keen angler recently went to Polish tuner Carlex Design (the same folks who did that steampunk Mini Countryman a while back) for a revamp of his Volkswagen Multivan. What resulted is perhaps the most striking - yet fishing-unfriendly - interior we've ever seen in a van. Below the shoulder line, if a surface isn't covered in cross-stitched Alcantara, then it's covered in cross-stitched leather. Even the steering wheel airbag boss. And the seat supports. And the cupholders.
The brown hue of the Multivan's interior is called Criollo, named for an especially fine specimen of cocoa. The finishing touch on the overhaul is a fileting knife that Carlex made for the owner. We imagine he'll use the knife for the marine life, but keep his van far away from it.
