Beautiful daily driver offered for sale due to unfortunate circumstances only - I have moved and don't have a garage and cannot stand to see it outside! Seriously, this car would NOT be for sale otherwise. I am the third owner, have all the maintenance records from the day it was purchased to present and have lovingly restored it along the way, from a tired old fellow of beige and rust when I first acquired it 6 years ago to what you see here today. It drives great, starts on demand, leaves only a minimal oil spot - unbelievable for this breed, as VW enthusiasts will tell you - and is a head turner wherever it goes. Bug Red, as he's now known, is loved by family and friends and no one is ready to part with him. He's been garage kept for the last 6 years since I've restored and repainted him, but after just a few months outside the chrome bumpers are showing rust spots (easily attended to with a brillo pad every couple of weeks) and I want to move him to a good home with a garage sooner rather than later. With just a little more work on the window and door gaskets and some of the trim, Bug Red could be a show car. I prefer to enjoy him on a near daily basis, however, and he's been up to the challenge from day one. He's starting to show a goofy uncertainty with his gas gauge around half a tank, so I've recently replaced the sending unit and am keeping an eye on that, but otherwise, he's a runner and will take you wherever you want to go, whenever you want to go. My upgrades and restorations have occurred over 5 years, and are too numerous to mention, but the first order of business was to remove the air conditioner - yes, Bug Red was a cool bug from birth, literally, with the VW installed a/c in the front. No need for that, though - the car was underpowered for it and it is a maintenance hassle, so we pulled it first and patched all the holes. Second order of business was pulling out the rusted floor pans and replacing them. Then, gradually, we replaced seals, wires, plugs and pins that looked uncertain for the long haul, en route to the new white walls and paint job. Bug Red's a new man and a favorite among guys, gals and kids alike. Seriously, you cannot drive 10 miles without several waves, thumbs up and/or questions in the parking lot. You will NOT be disappointed with him. I just ask that you be serious about it and plan to take care of him. He definitely deserves a roof over his head, and I cannot give that or predict when I will be able to again. My first car ever was a restored 1973 Super Beetle, so this has a lot of sentimentality for me, and it's hard to part with, but I don't want to see my handiwork get eaten up by the elements. So, give him a look. He's well worth it. The couple original 1973 advertisements that are shown in the pictures are available to go with Bug Red, along with a small assortment of original parts and accessories that have been replaced.

VW investigating Golf water leak discovered by car magazine
Sat, 07 Sep 2013Volkswagen is in a spat with German magazine Auto Bild over claims that its new, seventh-generation Golf may already need a recall. The German weekly reports that new Golfs can leak water into front-passenger footwells due to a faulty drainage tube in their air conditioning systems.
And while the fix itself doesn't sound too terrible, because Volkswagen bases so many cars off the same platform as the Golf, Auto Bild is claiming that 300,000 models could be affected, including the Audi A3 and Seat Leon. That's a very bold claim. For its part, VW is vehemently denying that number, according to Reuters, saying it's aware of the problem and claiming only 46 Golfs need fixing. In addition, it denies that any Audi or Seat models are affected by the issue.
Either way, regardless of how pervasive this leak issue is, North American buyers should rest easy knowing that the problems ought to get fixed by the time the Mk VII Golf finaly reaches our dealerships.
Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating
Mon, Aug 6 2018Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.
Volkswagen might cut 40 models across brands to save cash
Mon, Jun 20 2016Volkswagen once set out to pass Toyota and General Motors and become the largest automaker in the world. Following months of fallout from the diesel emissions scandal, the manufacturer is rumored to be dropping around 40 models from its company-wide lineup. According to German business and finance publication Handelsblatt, the Volkswagen Group is looking to slim down and remove a number of low-volume vehicles from various lineups. The company currently sells around 340 models across brands that include Audi, Lamborghini, and Bentley. Volkswagen is refusing to comment, but Handelsblatt claims to have sources within the company. Last week, Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Muller announced a new strategy for the company that includes a major focus on electric vehicles and new technology services. During his announcement, Muller said the company would be cutting a number of models, but at the time no numbers, models, or brands were discussed. Despite comments to the contrary, rumors have persisted since late last year that Volkswagen was looking to sell commercial truck and bus manufacturer MAN. Volkswagen owns truck and bus manufacturer Scania, so even if it dropped MAN, the company would still have a foothold within the bus and truck market. There is also talk of the company selling Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, which Volkswagen acquired via Audi in 2012. The company's image has taken a huge hit in the wake of the diesel scandal. Volkswagen has set aside cash in order to pay fines and may be looking to sell these several subsidiaries and cut low-volume models in order offset the costs. Despite the scandal, the company led worldwide sales in the first quarter of 2016. The same was true in 2015, but sales tanked at the end of the year following the diesel revelations.
