1966 Vw Notchback on 2040-cars
San Clemente, California, United States
1966 VW Notchback. Running, driving, registered daily driver. Rebuilt top end 1641cc with new p's and c's, heads, and 34 carbs as well as tri-mil Ceramic Tuck exhaust. Currently fueled by an electric fuel pump and sparked by Pertronix pointless ignition. The transmission was also recently rebuilt to stock specification and the set up easily cruises 70 on the highway. It is set up with full air ride suspension with onboard air tank, compressor and controller. It can do front, back, and side to side. It will not hop, and is set up to ride nice, from stock to fairly low, and will sit on the bump stops as a failsafe. It has the stock type 3 beam, and with new torsion bars, could go back to torsion suspension in an afternoon. The pan and drivetrain are sorted and rust free, with new tie rod ends and good ball joints. Stock disc up front and drum in the rear. I have 2 sets of front tires one for the low low, and the other for the more "respectable" height and look. All six tires are in good shape 4 wheels only. The body is good all in all. Some rust repair has been done, and a little could still be done, see pics. Otherwise it is solid, and with the patina and "rally" inspired look, you can drive it every day, and park it anywhere. Interior is practical and usable with some wear. Lights, signals, and flashers work. Brake lights, Aoooga horn, and a stereo with hidden 12". 3 point seatbelts front and rear. It has new window seals but the door windows could use new window seals and scrapers. LED headlights, Hella fog lights, STOP 3rd brake light with new amber topped flat tail lenses. #66 gumball decals are remove-able. Currently installed in the spare area is a diesel heater, ducted to the cabin and defrost for quick warming in the cold cold or extra heating over the heater boxes. It is standalone and easily removed. The stock heater boxes are in place and functional.
All in all, it is a great car, just ready for a new project. Roof rack is included, any accessories can be discussed.
Updated... just paid for another year of CA registration.

Regulators consider adding more carmakers to Takata recall
Tue, Sep 29 2015Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal has been getting a lot of press recently, but the Takata airbag inflator affair could be grabbing headlines again soon. According to Bloomberg, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is contemplating an expansion to the campaign that could add seven automakers to the 12 already affected. They are Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and VW Group. To be clear, there's no recall for any of these automakers, yet. The government is simply asking for a full list of vehicles that each of them have with Takata-supplied inflators containing ammonium nitrate propellant. The agency is concerned this substance could play a roll in the ruptures. "NHTSA is considering not only whether to issue an administrative order that would coordinate the remedy programs associated with the current Takata recalls, but also whether such an order should include expansion of the current recalls," the letters say. All seven can be viewed, here. From a report supplied by Takata, the government already knows that the company supplied 887,055 inflators with ammonium-nitrate propellant to VW and 184,926 of them to Tesla. In an incident during the summer, a side airbag allegedly burst in a 2015 VW Tiguan. In early September, NHTSA put out a revised report that there were 23.4 million inflators to be replaced in 19.2 million vehicles in the US. An earlier accounting from the agency had about 34 million of the parts in 30 million cars. High humidity is still believed to be among the biggest risk factors for the ruptures. Although, if ammonium nitrate also gets the blame, some already recalled models might need to be repaired again. Related Video:
Bentley Bentayga bodies to be built in Bratislava
Sun, Apr 12 2015Volkswagen's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, has come a long way. After getting its start in 1971 by subcontracting the production of Skoda-branded vehicles, the plant was purchased by VW in 1991, where it was quickly put to further good use as it began producing Volkswagen Passat models for export. More recently, Bratislava has become a bastion for SUVs, assembling the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, in addition to the VW Touareg. Color us unsurprised, then, to learn that the Bentley Bentayga, which will be built atop the same large SUV platform as its cousins from Audi, Porsche and VW, will also be used for at least part of the production of Bentley's first SUV. Surely, though, one of the hallmarks of the Bentley brand is that its cars are handmade in England. Won't the Bentley-buying populace feel slighted by production in Slovakia? Not to worry. As is the case with the Porsche Cayenne, all that will be produced in Slovakia is the Bentayga's body. According to a report from Automotive News, bodies for the Bentayga will be shipped from Bratislava to Crewe, England, where they will be finished into fully operational vehicles. In order to accommodate the additional work, VW will reportedly invest 500 million euros into the plant in Slovakia and hire hundreds of workers.
Volkswagen reveals Beetle GSR, R-Line convertible and two special GTIs
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Volkswagen has chosen to really expand its performance-tuned portfolio at this year's Chicago Auto Show, bringing along a couple of new Beetles destined for model year 2014, as well as a pair of freshened GTI packages that you'll be able to buy almost right away.
The first, and splashiest of the Chicago goodies on the VW stand has got to be the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR. Don't lose your temper, Acura Integra geeks; in this case, GSR stands for "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer," and harkens back to a sport-tuned classic Beetle from the 1970s. For the 2014 iteration, the GSR gets a 210-horsepower version of VW's 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. That engine is enough to push the Beetle to 60 miles per hour in 6.6 seconds, and up to a top speed of 130 mph.
Of course, you'll have long-since noticed the shockingly yellow-and-black livery before you stumble across the Turbo badge on the rear deck. The GSR gets 19-inch alloy wheels, 235-section tires and a tea-tray rear spoiler, but it's the paint and graphics package that will decide if this is your (lemony) cup of tea. Things don't get any subtler inside the car, either, as VW has carried the colorway through to the interior, as well. Only 3,500 Beetle GSRs will be produced, with just more than half of those going to the US - call your dealer today, Wiz Khalifa.
