Up for sale is this very rare and beautiful 1963 VW Notchback in fabulous condition. I purchased the car from the previous owner who completed pan off restoration about a year ago. The car is an absolute beauty with newer paint, interior including carpet, seats, headliner and rebuilt motor. The car drives flawlessly at highway speed with no issues of any kind. The body and paint are in excellent condition with no major dents, dings or scratches other than the one on driver side front fender (see picture). Since I purchased the car, I have put less than 500 miles on it. The odometer shows 47396 miles but speedometer in inoperative and the car will be sold with miles unknown. As meticulous as the restoration on this car is, it should not be confused with a 100 point trailer queen. It is, however, still one of the nicest drivers you would find and ready to be driven anywhere. The previous owner has also installed power windows but the driver side window sticks a little and sometimes needs a little help when going up. Also the wind shield wipers are not working and being in Arizona, I never felt any need for them. The Driver side vent window's latch is broken. The car has 4 speaker and it is wired for stereo that can be easily installed in the glove compartment. It is also wired with special theft deterring push button ignition system. I have described any flaws to the best of my knowledge. I can be reached by phone at 480 628 3666. If you have any questions, please ask BEFORE bidding on the car. If you are getting some type of financing, please arrange it before placing your bid. I encourage you to get a 3rd party inspection but it must be paid and completed before you place your bid and NOT after the end of the auction. It is buyers responsibility to do their independent inspection if desired but I will be happy to assist in the process if needed. If you decide to buy it sight unseen then you will be responsible for any and/or all the defects that this car may or may not have. The winner of the auction must make an immediate payment of $500 through paypal and the balance must be paid within 72 hours by bank wire transfer or certified funds. I can assist you in shipping but it is buyer's responsibility to pay for the shipping cost. |

Yes, a family of 5 can live in a 1981 VW Westfalia van
Fri, Feb 14 2014Automakers and marketers trying to reach environmentally conscious consumers who desire the simple life basically have two strategies: promote electric vehicles that can be charged through green energy or sell a 30-year-old Volkswagen van on Craigslist. Nicolas Boullosa and Kirsten Dirksen opted for Plan B and turned a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia camper into a "micro-living" experiment. The co-founders of the simple living website faircompanies packed up their van and three young children for a road trip through the Pacific Northwest. They even turned the adventure into a documentary called Summer of (Family) Love, which you can view below. It's two hours long, so maybe add this to your weekend viewing list. They limited themselves to one backpack per person into a camper that they purchased off Craigslist and named "Westy." They stuck to their original intention of cooking all their own meals off a propane stove, creating a new little home every night in a different location, mostly spaces outside RV parks. They met up with other enthusiasts of the "tiny house" community who live like nomads. They were able to interview a few of then and, "With each stop we picked up some new piece of wisdom about life's essentials," Dirksen wrote in the faircompanies blog. Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn told European regulators that more stringent emissions standards too soon will be a major problem for automakers. He says that such moves could prove "fatal" for an auto industry that is still working to develop cleaner vehicles. "Every gram of CO2 that we save in our European fleet costs our group almost 100 million euros," says Winterkorn, "100 million that we have to invest in advance, without knowing when these investments pay off." He says that already creating emissions targets beyond those set for 2020 could harm European automakers competing globally. Read more at Automotive News Europe. When a Detroit Chevrolet dealership lost its Internet connection, it turned to one of its Chevy Volts for a temporary fix. After the regular connection at Buff Whelan Chevrolet went down, it plugged in a Volt showroom model equipped with 4G LTE, and used its connection to resume business. The car can handle up to seven connected devices, so the team used a Malibu to connect the rest of its computers. When a customer asked why the Volt was on, the team explained the whole situation, leading to one impressed customer. Read more at Automotive News. This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]
Thu, 13 Nov 2014As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
