2004 Volkswagen Touareg V8 Sport Utility 4-door 4.2l *air Suspension* on 2040-cars
Clarkston, Michigan, United States
I fell in love with this vehicle when I first saw her, and love her still . . . but it's time to let go.
This was 2004's Motor Trend SUV of the year for good reason. It was well ahead of it's time and, in many ways, remains so. She was fully loaded when I purchased her new in 2004 for almost $53,000. She has every option imaginable, including the full air suspension, rear differential lock, electronic parking assist front and back, the Premium Plus package which includes navigation and a premium audio system. A cold weather package was also optioned, which includes a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. A frame hitch was added. The teak leather remains in immaculate condition, and is much nicer than that found on contemporary versions. She has a power telescoping and tilting wheel. If you are shopping this vehicle, you probably know what it's about. She is built like a tank; overbuilt, in fact, and she was designed in conjunction with Porsche. It is a good looking vehicle even today -- in fact, I was recently asked whether she was a Porsche. This vehicle has been very well maintained, with synthetic oil changes every 4,000 miles. She has recently enjoyed some substantial work, about $8,000 worth, at the local VW dealership. Among the very recent maintenance: new timing belt, thermostat and water pump; intake manifold with vacuum actuators; engine breather valve/purge valve; cam adjuster seals; differential lock motor; air bag harness; and a complete fuel system replacement (main and aux fuel pumps, filter regulator, transfer lines and suction jets). The transmission was recently checked for wear, and no metal or abnormal wear was discovered. Now for the anticipated wear: there are minor scuffs, and a scrape on the driver's side front bumper seen in the pics. There is some button peeling in the interior, which is a common issue in this model. The tire pressure monitoring light is on. There are some cracks in the wood trim, but minor and not really noticeable except on close inspection. There are two small chips in the front windshield, both smaller than a dime, neither in the line of sight and neither spreading. I suspect that there may be a need for a new valve body; it's not a concern to me, though, because I do not have a lead foot. About 7/32 tread left. She is a solid vehicle and remains my preferred daily driver. Of course, given her age, she must be sold as is, where is. But I have done my best to provide an accurate representation of current condition. Good Luck Bidding! A reasonable reserve has been set. Buyer responsible for shipping, but I will assist in coordination. |

Volkswagen to add 50k jobs by 2018
Thu, 04 Apr 2013Volkswagen still has its eyes set on becoming the top global automaker by 2018, and to get there, it's apparently going to need more boots on the ground. Automotive News Europe is reporting that VW is looking to increase its staff by 50,000 over the next five years - an increase of nine percent - which does not include an increase in its US dealer network.
According to the report, a majority of the growth will come from China where the automaker is also looking to double its production capacity in the same time frame. The Volkswagen Group is already expected to rival General Motors for the top sales spot in China this year, and such a rapid expansion in the region could make a good springboard for sales increases in other countries.
Volkswagen drops first teaser of next-gen T6 Transporter
Fri, Mar 20 2015The history of Volkswagen's line of boxy Transporter vans goes all the way back to 1950, and the early models' shape likely ranks in fame with the Beetle. VW Commercial Vehicles is now teasing the next step in that legacy with this sketch of the new T6. Judging by this shot, VW is sticking with the van's familiar, square shape. Although this sketch makes the front end look a bit more curvaceous and possibly with a shorter overhang than the current T5. Finding out the truth won't take long because the T6 will debut on April 15, and it will go on sale in the UK by the end of the year. These days the US commercial van segment is rapidly expanding with new models filling the market. Autoblog reached out to VW spokesperson Mark Gillies to find out if the latest Transporter might come across the Atlantic. "LCVs are under consideration, but there are no plans" to bring the T6 to the US at this time, Gillies said. When it made its public debut in 1950, few could have predicted the enormous impact the Transporter would have in revolutionising the commercial vehicle market, creating a timeless automotive icon in the process. Whilst the Transporter has evolved dramatically during that time the philosophy and vision that created the original still holds true. Getting the job done efficiently and reliably has been at the heart of the Volkswagen philosophy for the past 65 years. Its reputation for rugged reliability has endured over the decades to make the Volkswagen Transporter one of the world's best-selling light commercial vehicles. The sixth-generation Transporter will go on sale in the UK later this year. (ends)
BMW, VW partner with ChargePoint for high-speed charging network
Thu, Jan 22 2015To promote their plug-in electric vehicles, a number of electric vehicle makers are working overtime to get a charging infrastructure set up. Tesla is famously setting up a network of Superchargers around the world, and today BMW and VW have announced they are partnering with ChargePoint to install almost 100 DC Fast Chargers up and down the US coasts. Installing additional Level 2 chargers is also part of the plan. The new DC Fast Chargers will offer the SAE Combo connectors, which is available on both the e-Golf and the i3. The fast chargers will have "up to two 50 kW DC Fast chargers, or 24 kW DC Combo Fast chargers," BMW says. They will be installed roughly 50 miles apart between Boston and Washington, DC in the east as well as Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego in the west. The 24-kW DC Fast Chargers will fill up an empty i3 or e-Golf to 80 percent in a half-hour or 3.5-4 hours from the Level 2 cords. Speaking at an announcement ceremony at the Washington Auto Show today, ChargePoint CEO Pasquale Romano said that infrastructure investments like this will get more people to realize that they can use an electric vehicle as their only car, and Jorg Sommer, VP of product marketing and strategy for VW North America, said that it's clear that, "The EV is perfect for the daily driver." BMW, Volkswagen and ChargePoint Join Forces to Create Electric Vehicle Express Charging Corridors on the East and West Coasts. · A goal of nearly 100 DC Fast charging ports will be installed to support long distance and metropolitan electric vehicle travel with the BMW i3, Volkswagen e-Golf and other electric cars, along heavily trafficked corridors on both coasts, supported by Level 2 chargers. · These publicly available charging stations will be added to the existing ChargePoint network and can be easily accessed using a ChargePoint® or ChargeNow card. Washington, D.C., January 22, 2015 – At the 2015 Washington Auto Show, two of the top automakers, BMW of North America and Volkswagen of America, together with ChargePoint, the largest electric vehicle charging network, announced an initiative to create express charging corridors along heavily-traveled routes on the East and West Coasts.
