1974 Volkswagen Thing Type 181 Safari Recently Restored Low Milage on 2040-cars
United States
1974 Volkswagen Thing Type 181 Safari recently restored with lots of new original parts and very low milage (19250 miles or 30800kms) and in perfect mechanical condition, starts right up and drives smoothly. This particular car is mexican and was restored by the president of the Classic Automobile Club Chapter Morelos and that is why the Morelos classic car plates, i traded it to him 4 months ago for a very original 1967 Plymouth Barracuda 318/270hp 4 bbl LA engine and 4 speed partially restored, the owner had it for sale at $10,000 USD and my reserve price is lower. Im selling it because im moving back to the US and need the money to cover for the expenses it involves. The title is the original sheet and all the original documents and history are included as well as a CD with over 200 pictures of the whole restoration process. All the gages and electrical devices are Hella and work flawlessly as well as the close ratio transmission with double CV joint and 1600cc engine, to my knowledge this was the only year with the big 1600cc engine and the short ratio transmission (which is very desirable and fun on an off road/summer time car) combination, brand new off road tires (Tornel is a mexican brand and i believe were the original model as they were sold here), original seat covers, windows, top, etc. As with any car of this vintage there are a few little details (cosmetic) that are hardly visible, easy to repair and do not interfere with the driving experience at all. I just recently took this car to the World Rally Championship that took place in Leon Guanajuato Mexico and it behaved and climbed with no issues at all and better than most modern SUVs, also just last weekend i took a 900km road trip to a surf contest in La Ticla Michoacan and the car didnt have a single issue and every body was in love with it, its a great attention getter and conversational piece. The car has been relisted due to me asking my dad to borrow one of his accounts because mine had an unactivity period of 4 years due to my relocation to Mexico when i lost my job back in the '09 rescession and turns out his account had an 8 year unactivity period which he forgot to tell me, regardless mine and his account have flawless positive feedback. The car is located in Central Mexico and will be delivered in Laredo TX after a $500 Paypal deposit at the place and time of your choice. Also the deposit will be returned in full and the Paypal fees covered by me in case of any misshaps. Any requests or questions feel free to ask through e mail or call 001 52 (443) 281 0037 with Rudy for inmediate answer in english or spanish, thanks. |

Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 Geneva Motor Show Debuts
Fri, 08 Mar 2013We've returned from a very busy week in Switzerland, and in going back over all of our 75 stories from the Geneva Motor Show, our editors have gathered up their personal favorite debuts from the European expo.
The wonderful thing about the Geneva show is just how wide of an array of vehicles are on display - everything from funny little one-off EVs to the most exotic of supercars to, well, truly ridiculous displays of coachbuilding. And because of that, this list of our editors' favorites might not be as predictable as you think.
But we don't want to give anything away just yet. Scroll down to have a look at our team's favorites from Geneva.
Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe is a green fun-machine we want to drive
Fri, 19 Apr 2013Think back to January's Detroit Auto Show. Those of you that are fans of the Volkswagen brand, impressed with green technology or simply fall into the "diesel geek" category, will almost certainly remember VW's CrossBlue concept with its diesel/electric hybrid powertrain, seating for seven, and somewhat awkward crossover styling. It was an impressive piece of future tech, to be sure, though it left something to be desired in the, well, desirability department.
Here in Shanghai, VW has brought along a CrossBlue Coupe concept that would seem to include most of the goodness of the original, but flavored with more sport and style this time around.
The CrossBlue Coupe makes use of the same electric drive components as the larger three-row concept: two electric motors (front and rear) powered by a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. However, where the original concept made use of a TDI four-cylinder, the Coupe substitutes a 295-horsepower, direct-injection, gasoline-burning V6.
VW readying new VR6 with forced induction
Fri, 27 Sep 2013Volkswagen built a stonking, narrow-angle V6 in the 1980s and 1990s that was found in three different generations of the Golf (their performance iterations, obviously), three generations of the Passat, the New Beetle, the Corrado and the Touareg, among other VWs, a spate of Audis, Seats, a Skoda, and even the Porsche Cayenne. It was a sad day when it was announced that it'd be put out to pasture.
Rejoice, though, fans of the venerable VR6, because Volkswagen has a new, modern variant in the works that, according to AutoWeek, features direct injection and can easily be fitted with forced induction. In fact, AW mentions Volkswagen insiders that claim this unit will spawn a production version of the twin-turbo V6 shown on the Design Vision GTI from this year's Wörthersee festival. That unit produced an epic 503 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Don't expect a production unit with that level of power (although it would make a hardy RS4 powerplant), though. In reality, AutoWeek is suspecting anywhere from 340 to 450 horsepower from the new mill. When it arrives at an undisclosed date in the future, it'll likely be found in the Passat and Passat CC as well as the production version of the CrossBlue.
