Own a piece of history in this 1973 VW Thing with an astonishing 23k mileson the odometer, this unmodified original survivor stands apart from the rest. It was first purchased by a private collector and driven sparingly for it's first 20 plus years at which time this generous multimillionaire donated it to the Cincinnati Zoo to be auctioned off to the highest bidder in 1995. The vehicle was won by another affluent collector who owned a number of automobile dealerships in the Cincinnati area. He used the vehicle primarily as a promotional item to be displayed on various showrooms or community events and drove it on the occasional family outing. I am fortunate enough to be the third owner of this outstanding vehicle and have put a few finishing touches on it to bring it back to it's original glory (it didn't need much) but i now have my eye on yet another prize and don't have room for both so my loss can be your awesome gain. The vehicle comes with the original zoo flyer, owners manual and other interesting paraphernalia. Happy bidding!

Skoda unveils Volkswagen Up!-based Citigo
Tue, 27 Sep 2011This is the all-new Skoda Citigo, and if you're thinking that it looks rather familiar, that's because its Volkswagen-badged kin recently debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. That's right, the long-rumored Skoda version of Volkswagen's new Up! city car has finally arrived.
Buyers will have a choice of two 1.0-liter three-cylinder engines - one with 59 horsepower, the other with a 74 hp and a blistering 106 mph top speed - both mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Powerful they are not, but these three-bangers should prove to be extremely efficient, with Skoda quoting fuel economy numbers of 62.8 and 60.1 miles per gallon, respectively (on the European cycle).
Being a Skoda, the Citigo will go on sale in its home market of the Czech Republic this fall, with the rest of Europe getting the car next summer. Follow the jump for Skoda's official release.

Fri, Feb 14 2014Automakers and marketers trying to reach environmentally conscious consumers who desire the simple life basically have two strategies: promote electric vehicles that can be charged through green energy or sell a 30-year-old Volkswagen van on Craigslist. Nicolas Boullosa and Kirsten Dirksen opted for Plan B and turned a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia camper into a "micro-living" experiment. The co-founders of the simple living website faircompanies packed up their van and three young children for a road trip through the Pacific Northwest. They even turned the adventure into a documentary called Summer of (Family) Love, which you can view below. It's two hours long, so maybe add this to your weekend viewing list. They limited themselves to one backpack per person into a camper that they purchased off Craigslist and named "Westy." They stuck to their original intention of cooking all their own meals off a propane stove, creating a new little home every night in a different location, mostly spaces outside RV parks. They met up with other enthusiasts of the "tiny house" community who live like nomads. They were able to interview a few of then and, "With each stop we picked up some new piece of wisdom about life's essentials," Dirksen wrote in the faircompanies blog.
