Up for bid is an ORIGINAL UNRESTORED 1973 Thing. It was reciently pulled from it's 22yr resting place. "Barn find" is highly overused these days but as you can see from the pictures, that's exactly where it came from.  It is in original unrestored condition.  It does show it's age with some bumps and bruises but nothing bad enough to detract from it's original patina.  I have tried to capture all of the dents and scrapes in the pictures.  The original orange paint was buffed out and the top and seats conditioned to bring it back to the present polished state.

The motor is a 1600 dual port with dual Kadrons. It has a remote oil filter you can see in the pictures.  New dual exhaust installed just before parking.  It does have some exhaust leaks,  I haven't taken a close look at it so assume they will still be there at the end of the auction.  It does run ok when warmed up but could use a good super tune by you.  New NAPA battery installed.

It has new tires on the rear and an old set of michelins on the front.  I kept the wheels just as they were because they just kind of fit the unrestored look.  I will leave that to your discretion.

Brakes seem to be fine.  I haven't had it above 50 mph but the brakes brought it to a safe stop.  There is a spare rear drum.

The top is in perfect condition.  All the fastening loops are in place and you can actually see out the plastic rear window.  It also comes with a carpet kit still in the shippers box.  Also in the box are seat belt harnesses.

The trunk carries the original(?) polyglass spare tire, and jack.  I didn't find a lug wrench.  The gas heater seems to be complete and unmolested.  I have no idea on the working condition of the heater.  I have never had any experience with these and I figured this wouldn't be a great time to learn!  I will leave that one to you too.

There is a small rusted area under the battery.  I showed it in the pictures with a standard business card lying next to it for reference.  That is all the rust I found.

It has a 4 pt cage you can see in the pictures.

It comes with the side curtain frames.  The vinyl and windows are toast.  They will need new coverings.

Overall this is a great unrestored, original daily driver, show and shine attention getter.  If you don't like to be talked to or are offended by people following you and taking pictures with their iphone, this isn't for you!  It is an incredible attention grabber.  Park it next to a restored muscle car or hot rod and people will look at this THING first!

Please bid with confidence that you are buying an ORIGINAL UNRESTORED VW Thing.  They are only original once!  Thank you for looking.

VW bringing fuel cell concept to LA Auto Show

Mon, Nov 17 2014

Amid the flurry of hydrogen announcements from Toyota and Honda last night, Volkwagen has something to add: a new hydrogen fuel cell concept vehicle. This will be the first VW hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in many years – remember the Tiguan Hy-Motion back in 2008? – and it comes as a bit of a surprise. First written up by the German publication Wirtschaft Woche, VW is going to have the prototype car (not pictured) available at the ride and drive at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this week. We don't yet know what kind of vehicle will sport the hydrogen powertrain, but our money's on a Golf variant. We'll see soon enough when we get to Los Angeles. What's interesting is that there have been a number of not-so-mixed messages out of the VW executive ranks when it comes to hydrogen vehicles. VW's Japanese president, Shigeru Shoji, said in September that, hydrogen fuel cells, "may fly within Japan, but not globally." Last year, VW's electrification head Rudolf Krebs said that "hydrogen mobility only makes sense if you use green energy." Also last year, VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said it's basically impossible to build hydrogen vehicles at a "reasonable cost." Nonetheless, we're going to see a new VW H2 concept soon. Thoughts?

10 best new car deals of November 2021

Thu, Nov 4 2021

Sales of new cars, trucks and SUVs were drastically affected in 2020 due to the (still) ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The market started to show signs of recovery toward the end of last year before really coming on strong in the early months of 2021. Of course, then pandemic-related parts and worker shortages along with global shipping constraints started running amok and causing a great deal of pricing fluctuation and a limited supply of certain vehicles. Those problems (among other things) have led to record-high new-car transaction prices in the United States. The good news is that there are still plenty of great deals on new cars. Using data provided by TrueCar, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best automotive deals for November 2021. WeÂ’ve noted the original MSRP, the average transaction price, and the total savings in both dollars and as a percentage of the original sticker price. Basically, weÂ’ve done all the hard work for you! So now, all you need to do is compare deals, go on a few test drives, and maybe drive away in a great car (and an even better bargain).

Weekly Recap: 2016 CTS-V gives Cadillac new momentum for the new year

Sat, Dec 27 2014

It's been a rough year for Cadillac. The historic luxury carmaker been in the news for all of the wrong reasons: Declining sales, ditching its advertising agency and the relocation of its headquarters from Detroit to New York. But in late December, Cadillac reminded everyone what it does best: Build some of the rawest and most compelling luxury sedans in the world, as evidenced by the 2016 CTS-V. This monster churns out 640 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. Sound familiar? That's the Corvette Z06 engine, and it makes this CTS the most powerful production Cadillac ever. It also puts the sporting divisions of the Germans on notice. The new CTS-V easily overpowers the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic and its 5.5-liter biturbo V8 rated at 577 hp, and the BMW M5 (with the competition pack) and its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that pushes out 575 hp. The rear-wheel drive Cadillac can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, which is close to the 3.5-second time turned in by the 4Matic-driven E63 S, and a bit quicker than the 4.1 seconds posted by the M5. With Magnetic Ride Control, General Motors' stout eight-speed automatic transmission (also used in the Corvette), Brembo brakes and a carbon-fiber option package that pretty much builds your car out of carbon fiber – it's clear this Cadillac means business. Truth be told, we expected this CTS-V to deliver. It's been a serious sports sedan for a decade, and the recent generation and its 556-hp arrogance have been particularly memorable. But notice what we're doing here? We're talking about product. Not who makes Cadillac's ads, or if the brand's headquarters has a mailing address in NYC. Like the 2016 ATS-V that's due in the spring, the debut of the 2016 CTS-V (on sale in late summer) is a shot in the arm for Cadillac, and its arrival comes during time of transition. The brand is trying to reinvent itself as a modern luxury maker. It wants new customers, a different image and obviously more sales. Those things are going to take time, but with a 640-hp sledgehammer of a sports sedan on tap for next year, Cadillac can still maintain some of its swagger through all of the change.
