VOLKSWAGEN "THE THING" MODEL 181 WAS BUILT IN Germany by VOLKSWAGEN year 1972 This car was used by the German Army as an Ambulance car and therefore used only in Emergency cases. I bought this car from the German Army and shipped it over to the US and started to get new paint, shocks, brakes, tires. It has a convertible soft top, which is new and it has also a roll over bar. In 2010 I put in a heavy duty BOSCH starter ( $ 480.00) In 2013 a brake job for $ 700. was done. Bills are available. It is powered by a 4-cylinder gas engine, with 4-speed manual transmission and on the rear axle it has a retracking device for terrain driving. I used this car only to pull it behind my motor home and while vacationing I used it for fun. The speedometer shows actual mileage 78320 km, approx. 30000 km were used to pull it behind my motor home. The car is in excellent condition and works properly, even the heater. Standard military equipment included a military lighting system, map light, rifle mounts, spade, starting handle, towing hook, straps on the inside rear deck for attaching a shovel, clip and latch for engine hand crank inside engine compartment (engine crank handle) If you are in the market for a unique and hard to find, rust free, extremely reliable vehicle, look no further. This THING starts on command and remains a pleasure to drive/shift on the open road or terrain. It was always garaged. European new car sales drop nearly 8% in first half of 2019
Thu, Jul 18 2019PARIS — European car sales dropped 7.9% in June, led by bigger declines for Nissan, Volvo and Fiat Chrysler (FCA), according to industry data published on Wednesday. Registrations fell to 1.49 million cars last month from 1.62 million a year earlier across the European Union and EFTA countries, the Brussels-based Association of European Carmakers said in a statement. Calendar effects resulted in two fewer sales days in most markets, accentuating the decline. Registrations for the first half closed 3.1% lower, ACEA said. For European carmakers, weakening demand at home compounds the pressure from a sharper contraction in China and emerging markets that may yet bring more profit warnings. NissanÂ’s aging model lineup contributed to a 26.6% June sales slump while Volvo Cars, owned by ChinaÂ’s Geely, saw deliveries tumble 21.7%. Registrations also fell 13.5% last month at FCA, 10.1% at BMW, 9.6% at Volkswagen Group and 8.2% for both Mercedes parent Daimler and FranceÂ’s PSA Group. FCA to pay buyers $1,700 to swap out of scandal-mired VWs
Tue, Oct 6 2015FCA is trying to gain some sales from arch-rival VW in the competitive European market by offering potential buyers in Italy up to $1,700 to swap into an FCA group car. While the promotion isn't specifically targeted at TDI owners affected by the emissions scandal, it is clearly intended to turn dissatisfaction with VW's defeat device cheat into additional sales, Bloomberg reports. The 500-1,500 euro incentive (roughly $560-1,700, depending on vehicle) stacks on top of any other rebates or deals applicable, and applies if a buyer brings in any of Volkswagen Group's cars – including Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, among (many) others. As Bloomberg notes, it's normal for automakers to offer "conquest" deals – giving a buyer cash for trading in a competitor's vehicle. Those deals aren't usually limited to one company's products, however; FCA's program looks specifically to take advantage of VW's legal and public relations nightmare. FCA isn't the only automaker trying this trick in Italy. Automotive News Europe also reported that Ford is offering approximately $840 in incentives across its entire range to owners of VW vehicles seeking to trade in for a Ford.
