Excellent Diesel Engine. Lots Of Good Parts. Wrecked Car. Woe Is Me. on 2040-cars
Bryan, Texas, United States
You will get the car but not the contents, except that you will get door cards and back seat/storage cover, fragments of driver's window, six quarts of synthetic blend diesel engine oil and a new oil filter in the box. If you wish, you will get a few kind words. Transporting this car from where it is to where you want it to be will be your responsibility. I will help a little with phone calls and things like that. Whomever you are, you will get $150 USD, CASH BACK. Deals like these are hard to equal and impossible to beat. This opportunity is remarkable. On top of that, I will entertain, but not necessarily accept, your best offer. Tell your friends. T-boned in driver's door and back quarter; left rear wheel disabled. Around 12,000 miles on first-class engine rebuild that cost over $3M; has attained 48 mpg on road. Would cruise easily at 75-80 mph, but it wouldn't get 48 mpg doing that. Low to middle 40's in mixed driving. Does not mark its territory with oil drops. Has block heater, which I did not use this winter. Starts easily in 20 degree weather on glow plugs. Parts Place in Michigan will sell you a long block without accessories for a bundle, they also sell heads. This engine has one of their heads, and I can tell you they are good. Majorly good. Parts Place says most shops screw up VW heads, and I have to agree. The first shop (a productions head rebuilder) screwed up my head; it blew a gasket. VW Diesel head gaskets are not cheap. Heads either. I have had this car for about ten years. Spent a ton of money repairing/replacing loads of parts in last three yr. Details on request. Spent a young fortune making it shift right and always find the right gear. Replaced main shift rod, and those are not easy to get (NLA from Volkswagen), but it makes the car go into reverse when you want it to. Windshield wiper motor stripped out drive gear; it turns but it doesn't wipe. Junk radio. Heater seems weak, but it does work at least some. Nearly new tires; tire on disabled wheel is holding air. All glass good except driver's window, which is in one million pieces. You get the pieces. No important rust damage. I even replaced the battery tray $$$. Car is nearly perfect mechanical donor. Has Optima battery. New radiator with the overhaul. Old one started leaking when rebuilt engine fired first time. Curses. I hate to see it just go to crusher with no parts, particularly the engine, saved. I have tried to find a sound derelict unibody with no luck. Ask any question you wish. You may inspect all you desire and see/hear it start/run before closing. If you have been around these cars, you know that odometers fail. Actual mileage believed to be astronomic; I have replaced odometer three times. May have Texas Salvage Title by time sold. I will refund you $150 against your shipping cost, if it is large, small, or essentially zero. What a deal. If you arrive with a trailer, I'll give you $150 back out of what you paid. If you arrive with a dolly or a flatbed, I will give you $150 back out of what you paid. If your transport company arrives, I will refund $150 to you out of what you paid. If you live down the street from me and I just don't know it, I will give you $150 back out of what you paid. I did the best I could with the pictures. I promise you the car is not sideways. What else is there to say, except this is a hell of a good deal for the right person? One more thing: It's also for sale in other venues, and I reserve the right to end this listing at any time. So get in here and bid !! |

Matthias Muller officially named VW Group CEO
Fri, Sep 25 2015While the vast number of rumors made it seem like a foregone conclusion, Porsche boss Matthias Muller has officially been named Volkswagen Group CEO to replace the recently resigned Martin Winterkorn. His contract runs through the end of February 2020, and until a replacement is found, Muller also gets to hang onto his old job as chairman of Porsche. At the same time, the VW Group Supervisory Board is announcing a massive structural reorganization across the entire company, with the new management model in place by the beginning of 2016. Contrary to previous rumors, Michael Horn remains as President and CEO of VW Group of America. The board wants a greater emphasis on brands and regions going forward, and the scale of this shift can be seen in the US. On November 1, VW Group business in the US, Mexico, and Canada is being combined under the leadership of current Skoda chairman Winfried Vahland. However contrary to previous rumors, Michael Horn remains as President and CEO of VW Group of America. Other brands are also seeing some significant changes mechanically. Porsche, Bentley, and Bugatti now fall under the Group's "sportscar and mid-engine toolkit." This means that the brands will start sharing standardized technical parts. A Chief Technical Officer across all of the company's brands will also start working toward future innovations. The new brand-centric view means the end of a group-wide production department. "Going forward, the brands and regions will also have greater independence with regard to production. So it follows that they should also hold the responsibility for these activities," Berthold Huber, interim Chairman of the Supervisory Board, said in the announcement. In a statement with the press release about his promotion, Muller promised to turn the company around after such an international crisis. He said: "My most urgent task is to win back trust for the Volkswagen Group – by leaving no stone unturned and with maximum transparency, as well as drawing the right conclusions from the current situation. Under my leadership, Volkswagen will do everything it can to develop and implement the most stringent compliance and governance standards in our industry." Matthias Muller appointed CEO of the Volkswagen Group Muller remains Chairman of Porsche AG until a successor has been found Matthias Muller (62) has been appointed CEO of Volkswagen AG with immediate effect.
2015 Green Car Of The Year finalists announced, run alt-fuel gamut
Tue, Oct 21 2014The 2015 edition of the Green Car of the Year award is following right in the footsteps of previous years with a variety of alt-fuel powertrains making the just-announced finalists list. You've got your plug-in vehicle (the BMW i3), your compressed natural gas (the Chevy Impala Bi-Fuel), your high-efficiency diesel (the Audi A3 TDI), your 40+ mile-per-gallon gas engine (the Honda Fit) and, finally, a car that can do a little bit of everything (the VW Golf). The Golf is available – at least in some parts of the US – with three different powertrains: a 2.0-liter diesel, a gasoline engine and all-electric drive. The Impala can burn either natural gas or gasoline in its 3.6-liter engine. The A3 is an efficiency champ, able to get 73.5 mpg on some European tests. The i3 can be a pure electric vehicle or come with a short range extending engine. And the Fit brings 41 miles to the gallon in a practical, affordable package. The GCOY award is announced every year at the Los Angeles Auto Show by Green Car Journal. The committee doesn't just take the fuel-saving technology into account, but also a vehicle's "availability to the mass market." Last year, the Honda Accord Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid won top honors, following up on wins from the Ford Fusion models (plug-in hybrid and hybrid) for 2013, the Honda Civic Natural Gas for 2012 and the Chevrolet Volt for 2011. FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR 2015 "GREEN CAR OF THE YEAR"" Green Car Journal to Reveal Winner of 10th Annual Award at LA Auto Show" Press & Trade Days, November 20 LOS ANGELES, CA (October 21, 2014) – Green Car Journal has announced its five finalists for the magazine's high-profile 2015 Green Car of the Year® program. The 2015 models include the Audi A3 TDI, BMW i3, Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel, Honda Fit, and VW Golf. The Green Car of the Year® award, an honor widely recognized as the auto industry's most important environmental accolade, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. An increasing number of vehicle models are considered for the Green Car of the Year® program each year, a reflection of the auto industry's expanding efforts in offering new vehicles with higher efficiency and improved environmental impact. Green Car Journal has been honoring the most important "green" vehicles every year at the LA Auto Show, since its inaugural award announced at the show in 2005.
VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes
Sun, 06 Jan 2013The case of Dupont and Honeywell's refrigerant R-1234yf is doing the exact opposite of keeping things cool. The two chemical companies have spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing R-1234yf to replace R-134a, the new refrigerant shown to be 99.7-percent kinder to the environment than the one it is meant to succeed. Part of that development has been years of testing by governments, outside safety agencies and automakers to approve the chemical for use in cars. It passed the protocols necessary for the European Union to declare that new and significantly revised cars from 2013 onward needed to use R-1234yf, and mandated that every car as of 2017 must use it.
Enter Daimler AG. The automaker created a head-on collision test with a B-Class at their Sindelfingen test track that would lead to the pressurized refrigerant being sprayed on the engine. The result in 20 out of 20 test was that the refrigerant burst into flames as soon as it hit the hot engine, while Daimler says that R-134a does not catch fire in the same test. Another unexpected result of the R-1234yf test was the release of hydrogen flouride, a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it that turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass.
Said a Daimler engineer in a Reuters piece, "It was scarcely believable. The most complicated lab tests conducted using the most sensitive measuring instruments around found nothing and all we do is drive a car around a couple of times, open a tiny hole in the refrigerant line and the next thing you know the car is on fire." So Daimler said it wouldn't use the refrigerant, and it recalled the cars it had already shipped with R-1234yf.
