This is my 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI

It has been my project for over a year now and I have to part with it.

Here's a little about it: I have replaced many many parts over the past year.

It is the 1.8 CIS motor.

New front performance brake pads
New Battery
New Starter
New front rotors
New Rear brake drums
New Rear brake Shoes
New Rear brake Cylinders
New Rear Wheel Bearings
BMW 14' bottlecap wheels
Raceland Headers
Currently Has mk2 cabrio seats
HID headlights
Timing Belt
Serpintine Belt
Spark Plugs
New Distributor rotor and cap
Neuspeed front brace
Neuspeed rear brace
Momo Steering Wheel
Oil Pan gasket
Strut mounts
New front motor mount and  trans mount and bracket
New Front Axels
New Gas Tank <---Cost like $400+

It has JOM front Coilovers
Rear Koni Yellow's with adjustable height and h&r springs

And Much Much More

I have paperwork for many of these parts and the sales receipt for the gas tank swap in which i spent over $400 in labor + the price of the part.

There are some cons to the car:
There is an exhaust leak by the headers because one of the 8 header bolts is stripped, it needs a tap and die with a new screw to close the exhaust leak
There is oil leaking from somewhere - I think it is the valve cover gasket
Paint is not perfect, there is some overspray in places and is not a highly professional job. However, it still does look pretty good.
Driver door only opens from inside, needs a little fixing on the cable maybe.
No air conditioning
No power steering
Back hatch does not open from outside, only from inside.
O2 sensor is broken
Cat is not installed and exhaust currently is headers to straight pipe with one muffler,
Mileage reads 53,799 but does not roll any longer.
It is hard sometimes to get into first gear, it needs some tweaking with the shift linkage. All you have to do is learn to get the feel of it or just first go into second gear and push straight up on the shifter to find first gear more easily.

I am including some extra parts I have lying around the garage with this sale. Such as the stock rear bench, some dash parts, fuses and relays, rear JOM coilvers.

The motor on this GTI runs strong and is pretty fast. This is one of the most fun cars I have EVER drove. It has such a go KART feel.

This car can be driven daily if needed but it will require a little bit more work to get it perfect.

It handles really well and gets a bunch of 'thumbs up' and turns heads whenever I drive it anywhere.

It currently has inexpensive daily tires on it. They have lots of tread, around 80%...

Also email with any questions.
My phone number is 818 648 7085

I have the registration. I have the PINK slip, with a clear title.

I am going to ask for a $200 deposit within 24 hours of wining the auction
I would like the car to be picked up within 7 days of winning the auction.
I am willing to ship if you pay for the shipping, I am not going to pay for it or organize shipping, that will be up to the buyer. I am willing to take it somewhere to send it off for shipping.
I am willing to meet up in Southern California for pickup --  I am located near Los Angeles.
The car will be sold as is, I cannot give a warranty on the car. I am not a car dealer. I am a private seller and this has been my weekend car / fun project for over a year now.

Defying Trump, major automakers finalize California emissions deal

Tue, Aug 18 2020

WASHINGTON — The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and major automakers on Monday confirmed they had finalized binding agreements to cut vehicle emissions in the state, defying the Trump administration's push for weaker curbs on tailpipe pollution. The agreements with carmakers Ford Motor Co, Volkswagen AG, Honda Motor Co and BMW AG were first announced in July 2019 as voluntary measures prompting anger from U.S. President Donald Trump. A month later, the Justice Department opened an antitrust probe into the agreements. The government ended the investigation without action. The Trump administration in March finalized a rollback of U.S. vehicle emissions standards to require 1.5% annual increases in efficiency through 2026. That is far weaker than the 5% annual increases in the discarded rules adopted under President Barack Obama. The 50-page California agreements, which extend through 2026, are less onerous than the standards finalized by the Obama administration but tougher than the Trump administration standards. The automakers have also agreed to electric vehicle commitments. Volvo Cars, owned by China's Geely Holdings, said in March it planned to join the automakers agreeing to the California requirements. It has also finalized its agreement. The settlement agreements say California and automakers agreed to resolve "potential legal disputes concerning the authority of CARB" and other states that have adopted California's standards. In May, a group of 23 U.S. states led by California and some major cities, challenged the Trump vehicle emissions rule. Other major automakers like General Motors Co, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Toyota Motor Corp did not join the California agreement. Those companies also sided with the Trump administration in a separate lawsuit over whether the federal government can strip California of the right to set zero emission vehicle requirements. Ford said the "final agreement will reduce emissions in our vehicles at a more stringent rate, support and incentivize the production of electrified products, and create regulatory certainty." BMW said "by setting these long-term, predictable, and achievable standards, we have the regulatory certainty that is necessary for long-term planning that will not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but ultimately benefit consumers as well."

Volkswagen officially grants access to UAW in Tennessee

Tue, Dec 9 2014

An audit at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN has revealed that at least 45 percent of the facility's workers support unionization, leading the German company to grant access rights to the United Auto Workers. This is a tremendous step in the UAW's long-running and at times contentious pursuit of the workforce at Chattanooga. With this latest move, "local leadership is ready to move forward with additional conversations with the company," the union said in a statement obtained by The Detroit News. "As a starting point, UAW Local 42 will take advantage of the company's offer to establish bi-weekly meetings with Volkswagen Human Resources and the Volkswagen Chattanooga Executive Committee." The News reports that UAW Secretary-Treasurer Gary Casteel, shown above speaking at the Chattanooga plant last summer, claimed these meetings "will remind Human Resources and the Chattanooga Executive Committee of the mutually agreed-upon commitments that were made by Volkswagen and the UAW last spring in Germany. Among those commitments: Volkswagen will recognize the UAW as the representative of our members. We believe Volkswagen made this commitment in good faith and we believe the company will honor this commitment." It's important to note that despite Casteel's remarks, this is not a collective-bargaining agreement, Harley Shaiken, a labor professor at University of California, Berkeley, told The News. "But it is a step in the direction of recognition, which ultimately could lead to collective bargaining. This is not the end point," Shaiken said. "We don't know what's next. We're in unchartered territory."

VW makes $23K on every Porsche sold, more than Bentley or Lamborghini

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

It's a good time to be in the luxury car business. In Volkswagen Group's financial report for the 2013 fiscal year, it is revealed that that Porsche enjoyed an operating margin of 18 percent. That means the Stuttgart brand made on average about $23,200 per car sold, according to BusinessWeek. Bentley wasn't far behind, and Audi (which was combined with Lamborghini) posted a 10.1 percent margin. This compares to only around 2.9 percent for the Volkswagen brand.
"Luxury brands are on fire," said Dave Sullivan, an industry analyst at AutoPacific. He said that the average profit margin is between six and eight percent. Brands like Porsche and Bentley have the benefit of competing in rarefied markets. Buyers looking at one their vehicles have fewer models to shop against and don't care as much about price. They can also charge more for options, which further boosts income, according to BusinessWeek.
In a way, we should be more impressed by the continued success from Audi. Its models generally have direct competitors in every segment from the other premium automakers. Plus, their buyers aren't the captains of industry who are shopping for a Bentley. Still, the Four Rings is leading rivals in sales so far this year.
