1983 VW Rabbit GTI Convertible.

This is 100% German Made (not Pennsylvania, or Mexico) made Rabbit convertible GTI has badges, as it is the same as original European GTI, not it’s Square headlighted ugly step brother made in Pennsylvania.  Neuspeed front and rear sway bars. Neuspeed Strut bar, Audi 5000 Intake upgrade, with custom Cold air intake system.  I had this thing running like a beast 2 yrs ago but since have had to put it in the garage and work on other projects.  New clutch installed when I bought in 2009 and maybe 2500 miles on it.  Timing belt replaced with tensioner 500 miles ago.  Comes with 2 sets of wheels, 14” White Snowflakes and 13” White Terantula wheels.  Original White Cloth/ Vinyl seats, and a set of black leather seats as well.  Brand New Black Top ready to be installed.

Spare parts and take offs included. Bumpers are in garage removed to make car look A LOT better.

Few minor rust spots but nothing major. There is one section above cowl under windshield seal that has rusted out but easy fix and does not affect anything with car structurally.  Strut towers are perfect, car had been undercoated when new and I actually removed the waxy stuff a power washer then learned what that gunky looking stuff was!

These are beginning to become hard to find and make a great collector car. Easy to work on, good gas milage, and fun as hell to drive.  Not to mention this one is a convertible for just cruising topless (top down I mean)

Car has 99k miles and that is pretty rare for a VW to have so few miles!

WHEN IT HITS 100K a German Engineer will get his wings!!!

Lots of life left, No implied warranties, car is sold as is where is and buyer to arrange pick up in Davenport Iowa.

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.

Skoda unveils Volkswagen Up!-based Citigo

Tue, 27 Sep 2011

This is the all-new Skoda Citigo, and if you're thinking that it looks rather familiar, that's because its Volkswagen-badged kin recently debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. That's right, the long-rumored Skoda version of Volkswagen's new Up! city car has finally arrived.
Buyers will have a choice of two 1.0-liter three-cylinder engines - one with 59 horsepower, the other with a 74 hp and a blistering 106 mph top speed - both mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Powerful they are not, but these three-bangers should prove to be extremely efficient, with Skoda quoting fuel economy numbers of 62.8 and 60.1 miles per gallon, respectively (on the European cycle).
Being a Skoda, the Citigo will go on sale in its home market of the Czech Republic this fall, with the rest of Europe getting the car next summer. Follow the jump for Skoda's official release.

2014 Volkswagen XL1 [w/video]

World's Most Efficient Car Impresses, Not Without Compromises
Among our many duties at the recent Geneva Motor Show, we were offered a pretty exclusive drive in the new Volkswagen XL1 hyper-efficient plug-in diesel hybrid. There is so much that is interesting about a car like this reaching production from a major automaker that it's tough to know where to begin.
First off, you should know that - at least for this generation - there is absolutely no chance in Albuquerque that this "1-liter vehicle" (i.e. a vehicle that can burn just one liter of fuel to travel 100 kilometers, or 62.1 miles) will ever make it into the hands of North American customers. We, too, were having trouble imagining an XL1 in typical American traffic, surrounded by comparatively massive pickups and SUVs. The driving experience had us recalling a couple of weeks in 1999 when we drove the then-revolutionary Honda Insight hybrid on US roads. We keenly remember the feeling of being very small and vulnerable, even as we felt proudly green in our 61-mpg Tochigi pod. Thing is, the Volkswagen is smaller still, and nearly as light despite its more complex drivetrain and safety features.
