Story of the truck Bought off a guy who used it as a daily driver for 20+ years Replaced the engine with one with 80k on it 10k miles ago, truck needed floors, exhaust and some misc. stuff to pass inspection, decided it was tie for something new. I bought it and put new floors in it, new exhaust , put new Sensen struts on the front with 2" drop springs and removed a leaf in the rear to even it out, found out the shock towers were shot when doing the struts, so patched them tying them back into the frame supports, brake lines front to rear section, front pads are next to new and so are rear shoes, we then painted it Matte Black as the previous color was faded ugly brown. Put in a new aftermarket radio (accepts usb and aux jacks) and new dash speakers. Truck gets about 45-50 mpg. As any vehicle from 81 that has 192,xxx on the clock there are some things that will eventually need attention, but it i a running driving truck Truck does need an alignment, and shifter bushings, I can get it into every gear and have driven this way since I've owed it,just want to be honest with you. Really don't want to sell but i have been laid off for about a month now and don't want to get behind on any of my bills or student loans. Last weekend took 2nd in the Mk1 Class at 11th annual Oktoberfest by next Level Tuning out of 15 cars, 1st place looked like it rolled off the showroom floor. I Will be happy to answer any and all questions about this vehicle. It was inspected in september. Selling as is, where located, Can help with shipping but will not provide any shipping free except loading onto a truck if necessary. Also I have the stock front bumper head lights and one turn signals (one has a cracked face tho) and some other misc parts Thanks! Tony Posted with eBay Mobile |

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC
Sat, 22 Jun 2013Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
Volkswagen tipped to launch turbocharged Up! with 100 hp
Tue, Jan 6 2015Overseas customers enticed by the compact dimensions of the Volkswagen Up! but turned off by its diminutive 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine may be encouraged by reports that the German automaker is planning a more potent turbo version. Previewed by the GT Up! concept showcased at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (pictured above), the more performance-oriented model is expected to pack the turbo three from the larger Polo, where it produces 100 horsepower channeled through a five-speed manual transmission. That may not seem like much, but it would put the existing 59- and 74-horsepower versions of the German city car to shame. That might not give it enough punch to keep pace with the upcoming Smart Fortwo Brabus (and its Renaultsport Twingo counterpart), tipped to pack as much as 130 hp, but it could stand to out-perform the existing 89-hp turbo models of both. Given that the reports are emanating from Brazil, however, it is possible that the Up! Turbo (or whatever it's ultimately called) would be limited to the South American market, if it's built at all. One thing's for sure, though: it's not likely to make it to North American showrooms anytime soon.
VW may move production because of Russia's cutoff of natural gas
Sun, Sep 25 2022Volkswagen AG is exploring ways to counter a shortage in natural gas, including shifting production around its network of global facilities, signaling how the energy crisis unleashed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine threatens to upend EuropeÂ’s industrial landscape. Volkswagen, EuropeÂ’s biggest carmaker, said Thursday that reallocating some of its production was one of the options available in the medium term if gas shortages last much beyond this winter. The company has major factories in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which are among European countries most reliant on Russian gas, as well as facilities in southern Europe that source energy from elsewhere. “As mid-term alternatives, we are focusing on greater localization, relocation of manufacturing capacity, or technical alternatives, similar to what is already common practice in the context of challenges related to semiconductor shortages and other recent supply chain disruptions,” Geng Wu, VolkswagenÂ’s head of purchasing, said in a statement. RussiaÂ’s decision to throttle gas supplies to Europe has raised concerns that Germany might be forced to ration its fuel. Recent news that gas storage levels hit 90% ahead of schedule has soothed fears of acute shortages this winter, but Germany faces a challenge in replenishing depleted reserves next summer without contributions from Russia. Southwestern Europe or coastal zones of northern Europe, both of which have better access to seaborne liquefied natural gas cargoes, could be the beneficiaries of any production shift, a Volkswagen spokesman said by phone. The Volkswagen group already operates car factories in Portugal, Spain and Belgium, countries that host LNG terminals. Labor hurdles To be sure, any major production shift away from EuropeÂ’s biggest economy would face significant hurdles. VW has some 295,000 employees in Germany and worker representatives account for around half the companyÂ’s 20-member supervisory board. Any shift in production would likely involve a limited number of vehicles rather than wholesale factory shutdowns. While gas supplies for VWÂ’s plants are currently secured, the company has identified potential savings at its European sites to cut gas consumption by a “mid-double-digit percentage,” said Michael Heinemann, managing director of VWÂ’s power-plant unit. Still, the carmaker said it was concerned about the effect high gas prices could have on its suppliers.
