I'm offering a 1980 4dr VW Rabbit Diesel in Inca Brown Metallic. This car started life out as a 1.5L normally aspirated Diesel with a 4spd manual transmission. In 1987 it developed a head gasket problem at 78k miles which the original owner decided to just rebuild the whole engine. Prior to completing this project he fell ill and passed away, the car sat in pieces in a garage until 2 years ago. His son wanted to clean out the garage and had this vehicle for sale, I purchased this time capsule and began to work. After inspecting the original engine components I decided to scrap them all because of the poor shape they were in from years of sitting in the incorrect conditions. Below I will list all the parts replaced and or modified to this vehicle.

  • Front and rear plastic Euro bumpers
  • New control arms with Poly bushings
  • Rebuilt manual steering rack w/ new inner and outer tie rods
  • New Ball joints
  • New Strut bearings
  • New V-MAXX adjustable coil-overs
  • Tie rod flip kit to reduce bump steer
  • New calipers, rotors, drums, shoes, pads, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and parking brake cables
  • Fuel tank removed, cleaned and coated internally
  • Converted the manual 4 speed transmission to a 5speed manual transmission out of an '84 Jetta Turbo Diesel
  • Engine is a 1.6 Diesel block with a rebuilt 1.6 Turbo Diesel hydraulic lifter head from a 1987 Turbo Diesel Jetta
  • Turbo is from a 1987 Turbo Diesel Jetta currently boosting @ 8PSI, due to the smaller Diesel injection pump
  • Exhaust and downpipe are from Techtonics Tuning, The shift linkage is modified to clear the bigger exhaust
  • Injection pump and injectors are fully rebuilt by Midwest fuel injection. The pump is from a normally aspirated Diesel. (car built for mileage)
  • New timing belt and accessory belts
  • New water pump and thermostat
  • Custom dual tone air horns
  • Second generation vacuum pump on engine
  • Valve cover gasket and oil pan gaskets converted over to Gen 3 rubber instead of cork
  • New glow plugs and glow plug relay
  • New flywheel, pressure plate and clutch. Flywheel was used from a GTI which is 9 bolt instead of 6
  • New CV axles
  • New wheel bearings front and rear
  • New Dash cap painted to match the interior, (it was cracked due to weather)
  • New 15" Euro spec Corrado steel wheels with authentic center caps
  • New tires
  • Bolt through vent windows were installed in the front doors
  • Carpeted trunk is still intact
  •  Sunroof works with no leaks
  • 8 track radio still works ( will come with a few 8 track cassettes)
  • Rare dealer added 3 gauge center console, which I fitted a boost gauge, Exhaust gas temperature, and an Oil pressure gauge
  • New wipers
  • New battery cables
  • New starter

There are probably things I'm forgetting to add. There is minor surface rust on the exterior. the floor pans are solid and have most of the original undercoating still intact. The strut towers are rust free as well as the front wheel wells. The only parts rotted through are the drivers front fender with 2 nickel size holes in it and some rust on the bottom of the drivers front door, they are pictured in the listing. The white spots you see in the pictures are of paint missing and of metal oxidation not rust yet. This vehicle has spent most of its life indoors in the Midwest.

The interior is clean, odor, tear and stain free. Very well maintained and used for a fun summer weekend cruiser after the rebuild.

It has come time to sell this fun little project and move on to something different. This vehicle needs nothing and is a turn key driver. I would not hesitate to drive this fun little car cross country. Please feel free to ask any and all questions prior to bidding. You are more than welcome to view the vehicle prior to auction end. But please don't waste my time if you are not interested in it.

I will assist in shipping this vehicle but will not pay for it.

Thanks for looking and good luck bidding

VW readying CC Shooting Brake?

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

This was bound to happen. Volkswagen's relentless drive for big volume has the brand mining seemingly every niche it can find for additional sales worldwide. And with its CLS Shooting Brake, fellow countryman Mercedes-Benz has already shown that a wagon based off of a "four-door coupe" can look dead sexy and command extra dollars. So it follows that the Volkswagen CC (whose existence is all but directly attributable to the success of the original CLS sedan) will also get a load-lugging variant. That's according to the UK's Autocar, which notes that the five-door will come in the CC's next generation.
According to the report, the next CC will be available in front and all-wheel drive variants with the usual assortment of gas and diesel four-cylinders found in the Wolfsburg empire, with the possibility of a gas plug-in hybrid model, too. The rakish estate will ride atop VW's MQB architecture, a shorter variant of which is also found underneath the new Golf. The scalable chassis is set to spread like kudzu throughout the company's lineup, but the CC probably won't happen until after the launch of the next European-market Passat in 2015.
Will we get it in North America? Hard to say. Volkswagen sells the standard CC saloon here, but not in particularly large numbers, and when the company moved to a North American-specific Passat, it dumped the wagon variant. The traditional VW estate apparently continues to pick up sales momentum abroad, however, making the CC Shooting Brake a seemingly natural fit for buyers who still want the utility of a two-box form but can afford to sacrifice a bit of cargo room in the name of style.

Ford Mustang Mach-E fails Sweden's moose test

Wed, Sep 29 2021

The infamous moose test has claimed another casualty. This time it's the Ford Mustang Mach-E AWD Long Range, which was tested in an electric four-way alongside the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Skoda Enyaq iV (an electric utility vehicle closely related to the Volkswagen ID.4 that is sold in the United States). According to the Swedish testers at Teknikens Varld, Ford's electric car not only failed to hit the speed necessary for a passing grade, it didn't perform well at slower speeds, either. To pass the outlet's moose test, a car has to complete a rapid left-right-straight S-shaped pattern marked by cones at a speed of at least 72 km/h (44.7 miles per hour). The test is designed to mimic the type of avoidance maneuver a driver would have to take in order to avoid hitting something that wandered into the road, which in Sweden may be a moose but could just as easily be a deer or some other member of the animal kingdom elsewhere in the world, or possibly a child or car backing into the motorway. Not only is the maneuver very aggressive, it's also performed with weights belted into each seat and more weight added to the cargo area to hit the vehicle's maximum allowable carrying capacity. The Mustang Mach-E only managed to complete the moose test at 68 km/h (42.3 mph), well below the passing-grade threshold. Even at much lower speeds, Teknikens Varld says the Mach-E (which boasts the highest carrying capacity and was therefore loaded with more weight than the rest of the vehicles tested in this quartet) is "too soft in the chassis" and suffers from "too slow steering." Proving that it is indeed possible to pass the test, the Hyundai and Skoda completed the maneuver at the 44.7-mph figure required for a passing grade and the Tesla did it at 46.6 mph, albeit with less weight in the cargo area. It's not clear whether other versions of the Mustang Mach-E would pass the test. It's also unknown if Ford will make any changes to its chassis tuning or electronic stability control software, as some other automakers have done after a poor performance from Teknikens Varld, to improve its performance in the moose test. Volkswagen rules out more potent Polo R

Wed, Dec 10 2014

Volkswagen may be planning ever more powerful versions of its Golf, but don't expect that lust for power to trickle down to the smaller Polo anytime soon as the German automaker has reportedly ruled out the prospect of making a Polo R. This according to Autovisie, the automotive section of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, in speaking to VW representatives at the launch of the new Polo GTI. Where the previous Polo GTI offered 177 horsepower, the new one packs 189 and is available with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The company briefly offered a Polo WRC Street with 220 horsepower, but that was only for a limited edition that Autovisie says will not be repeated for mainstream production. Which may just be for the best, as far as we're concerned, as no versions of the Polo are offered in the US, and we don't need yet another piece of forbidden fruit we can't get our hands on. The decision may seem at odds with the Polo R WRC rally machine with which Volkswagen has been dominating the World Rally Championship for the past two seasons, but was likely made in order to keep the Polo from infringing on Golf territory. VW currently offers the Golf GTI with 210 horsepower and the Golf R with 292, and showcased an even more powerful version with nearly 400 hp.
