1980 Diesel 1.5 L Rabbit/Caddy Pick up. No reserve auction. Highest bidder gets it. these are the legendary early 45 to 50 mpg Diesels that VW produced This pick up runs good, is the LX version, was set up for AC (compressor/dryer, most hoses intack) but the Condensor is missing and the return hose. Also, has none of the rust issues associated with these models. Towers are solid. Car tracks true, with really good tires and spare, stops true, and the e brake works great. 4 speed. Goes thru all the gears clean, and for a 1.5 winds up pretty quick. Don't expect to race, she's built for mileage not speed. Has the LX silver/gray color with the red interior. All of it looks original. Paint is chipped an dinged here and there. I can't find any evidence that the car has ever been hit. Bed is ok, some lumps here and there, nothing major, and tail gate is a bit loose, but closes fine and is ok for a driver. All the lights, turn signals etc. work. I have changed the oil, fuel, air filters. Changed the oil and the gear oil in the gearbox. Put a new belt on it, and timing plug, along with new battery cables. Couple of things that don't looks stock to me is a solenoid powering the glow plugs, and an in line fuel pump. (Makes bleeding easy tho) and the previous owner who had several said he puts in line fuel pumps in all of his cars. I also bought a new timing belt, tensioner, set of front seals, water pump and gasket along with a valve cover gasket. They're all new and still in the box. I read the manual (included with sale) that it was wise to change the timing belt, and if you changed the belt, the tensioner, front seals and water pump as they're all behind the belt anyway. (these are new in the box and are also included in the sale). The original timing belt looks good, water pump runs cool and doesn't leak, and none of the seals leak, I was just going to reset the clock. Anyway, it's a good solid example of this car, not fast, but, solid, dependable and the mpg is legendary. Clear title in my name. Car is sold "As is, Where is" On Oct-19-13 at 04:24:17 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot. the dash is vinyl and cracking, thus the dash mat. Rest of the interior is original and in really good shape for a 30 plus your vehicle. Misc. odds and ends go with car. Comes with a spare transmission, dash, manual, clutch cable. Car is located in Dixon, Missouri. 65459 Shippers are a dime a dozen. Google car shipping, and you will get a ton of brokers, but shipping is the responsibility of the new owners. I have plenty of room and can hold it for an agreed amt. of time after payment in full. |

Only VW, Volvo are doing enough to electrify in Europe, study says
Wed, Jun 16 2021Among major carmakers, Volkswagen and Volvo are doing enough to electrify their vehicle lineups in Europe, and the EU needs to set tougher CO2 emission limits if it wants to meet Green Deal targets, according to a climate group's study. Sales of battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids almost tripled last year, boosted by tighter emission standards and government subsidies. This summer, the European Union is expected to announce more ambitious CO2 targets; by 2030, the average CO2 emissions of new cars should be 50% below 2021 levels, versus the existing target of 37.5%. Volkswagen aims to have 55% group-wide BEV sales in Europe by 2030, while Swedish carmaker Volvo, owned by China's Geely says its lineup will be fully electric by then. VW ID4 front three quarter dark View 19 Photos Based on IHS Markit car production forecasts, according to the study from European campaign group Transport and Environment (T&E), Volkswagen and Volvo have "aggressive and credible strategies" to shift from fossil-fuel cars to electric vehicles. Others like Ford Motor Co have set ambitious targets, "but lack a robust plan to get there," T&E said. Ford plans an all-electric lineup in Europe by 2030. T&E said BMW, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Daimler AG and Toyota rank the worst as they have low BEV sales, have "no ambitious phase-out targets, no clear industrial strategy, and an over-reliance in the case of BMW, Daimler and Toyota on hybrids." JLR, owned by India's Tata Motors, says its luxury Jaguar brand will be all-electric by 2025, but has been less specific about electrification of its higher-volume Land Rover brand. BMW and Daimler have been reluctant to set hard deadlines for phasing out fossil-fuel cars. T&E said even if carmakers meet their targets, in 2030 BEV sales could be 10 percentage points below those needed to meet the EU's Green Deal — which targets net zero emissions by 2050. Rather than a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030, based on carmakers' existing production plans, the EU could set more ambitious targets, T&E said - an up to 35% reduction in CO2 emissions from new cars by 2025, around 50% by 2027 and up to 70% in 2030. "Targets need to be gradually tightened so that carmakers not only commit to phasing out fossil fuels, but develop a strategy that gets them there on time," Julia Poliscanova, T&E senior director for vehicles and e-mobility, said in a statement.
Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes also under diesel emissions scrutiny
Sat, Oct 10 2015The controversy over Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal isn't limited to the US. In Europe, where diesel engines are far more popular, the issue is shining a harsh light on the NEDC emissions test. As already known, the evaluation does a poor job of reflecting real-world production of NOx, and it appears a significant number of automakers are affected. The Guardian in the UK has been reporting on real-world test results from a company called Emissions Analytics. After the latest round of checks, vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi were found to generate far more NOx than they should. The newspaper also published similar results for Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Fiat, Volvo, Jeep, Citroen, VW, and Audi. On average, the figures are about four times over the limit of producing the pollutant. Unlike VW and its defeat device, these automakers aren't actually breaking the rules. The vehicles perform up to the NEDC lab test for emissions, but those results simply aren't translated to the street. "The VW issue in the US was purely the trigger which threw light on a slightly different problem in the EU - widespread legal over-emissions," Nick Molden from Emissions Analytics said to The Guardian. A big fight to decide the future of this issue appears to be on the horizon. Automakers claim that they can't meet the next round of tightening emissions regulations and are asking for compromises. Although, spokespeople for Mercedes and Honda told The Guardian that the brands would be in favor of the stricter rules. Meanwhile, some European governments began backtracking their support of diesels well before this scandal came to light. The added scrutiny certain hasn't helped the future of the oil-burner. Volkswagen Routan dead, pour out a sippy cup for your little homies
Thu, 28 Mar 2013America's minivan wolfpack has just gotten smaller by one. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen officials have confirmed what we've suspected for some time - the Routan is dead. Essentially a lightly reworked version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Routan actually hasn't been rolling off of Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario production line at all this year, but VW had yet to confirm its discontinuation. However, Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW America, has reportedly admitted that the Routan is being axed, with remaining units expected to be funneled into corporate functions for "internal purposes."
The move isn't unexpected - the Routan has never been a big seller, with just 57,650 examples moved since sales began in 2008 - peak yearly sales totaled under 16,000 units, and that was back in 2010. And while many have talked of the minivan segment shrinking, Automotive News points out that the segment actually grew 14 percent last year to 597,118 units, though it should be noted that most segments have been on sales upticks as the US economy chugs out of its recession.
So, is volume-crazy Volkswagen prepared to pass on large family vehicle sales? Probably not - the German automaker has signaled that it plans to build a three-row crossover in North America soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if it looks an awful lot like the Crossblue Concept from January's Detroit Auto Show - minus the fancy plug-in diesel powertrain.
