1977 Vw Rabbit on 2040-cars

Year:1977 Mileage:9000
Location:

Fullerton, California, United States

Fullerton, California, United States

Purchased the car in the beginning of the year with most of the mods done already. It was basically a weekend car for my friend, but I worked to make it daily driveable and used it as a daily driver until recently. It was multiple colors when I got it and I took on the task of getting it repainted to its original color, PhoenixRot. Also had the antenna hole, sidemarker holes and rear emblems shaved

Engine and transmission in it is a legit JH motor with a new timing belt, new headgasket, lots of new seals and gaskets. Also has a reinforced oil pan. Has Neuspeed throttle body, big bore intake pipe, and header. Brand new clutch bolted to the 4 speed transmission.New gas tank but no surge baffle. New fuel pump and lines. New strut mounts **New clutch in 6/13** . **New battery and alternator from 2/13**.

Corrado 11.1 brakes in the front with Momentum adapters, big master cylinder (25mm), all stainless lines, rear beam with discs in the rear. 16V prop valves. Scirocco K-Bar in the front. Autotech front & rear sway, poly bushings. Adjustable rear upper tie bar. H&R UltraLows. 16' ATS Type 10s with Yokohoma rubber.

Interior wise its sparse. All the gauges have been replaced with Autometer ultra lite units and all function. New fuse box with relayed fans (common short out issue on early cars). Has a new carpet kit and a unknown brand of Recaro knock offs. Cabby dash houses the Autometer gauges, headlight switch and a fan switch. No Stereo, but has speakers in the door and all the wiring the deck needs is ready to go.

Other misc stuff from my notes
Rear Caliper Swap
11' front brake upgrade
25mm cylinder upgrade
E-Brake cables
New brake booster
New rear braided SS brake lines
New front braided SS brake lines
Ate Super Blue
New MK3 brake light switch
Fuel pump blanket
Fuel pump hose clamps
Fuel tank (no baffle)
Rear wheel spacers
New heater core
Accelerator grommet
Rear motor mount
Passenger motor mount
New shift linkage
New radiator
Fan shroud swap
New airbox
Full gasket set
Intermediate shaft seal
Crank shaft seal
Timing cover bolts
Knock off Recaro SRDs/Sparco sliders
New plugs
New wires
New cap and rotor
New clutch cable spacer/grommet

BAD:
Car has a two spots of rust that should get fixed at some point. These aren't critical points on the car and is fairly normal for a German VW from this era. I have the brand new pass side floor piece that has enough new sheetmetal to fix both pieces. Engine bay didnt get painted either, but I would assume that the new owner would want something more than just a JH motor so that could be addressed then

Ecotricity offering 1,000 free EV miles to new customers

Thu, Feb 13 2014

Ecotricity is offering electric vehicle drivers in the United Kingdom an lengthy incentive for using green energy: 1,000 miles of free fast charging per year. Called "Green Electricity + Car," the program will power customers' homes with renewable power allow them to charge their cars through Ecotricity's national network of fast chargers, which the company has named the Electric Highway. It makes complete sense for Ecotricity. "To get the greatest environmental benefit from an electric car, it needs to be charged using 100 percent green electricity from the wind and the sun – otherwise you're still powering it from dirty fossil fuels," wrote Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity. Ecotricity, a UK-based producer of green energy, wants to bring fast charging to 90 percent of highway service stations around the UK in the near future and four fast chargers are installed per week under the Electric Highway campaign, the company says. Users can fast charge their EVs in 20-to-30 minutes. Ecotricity recently instituted a price freeze for all gas and electricity customers until April 1, reducing energy costs below what's being billed by the country's "Big Six" energy companies. Green Electricity + Car coincides with Volkswagen bringing its electric e-Up! to the British market. Volkswagen Group (UK) Limited imports VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda brand vehicles and has signed a deal with Ecotricity as its official green energy supplier. Volkswagen Group customers purchasing an EV through one of its brands can take advantage of a new, reduced-cost Ecotricity tariff and a free smart meter installation. 08 February 2014 Green Electricity + Car Drivers of electric cars will receive 1,000 free miles every year with a new electricity tariff being launched by green energy company Ecotricity. Green Electricity + Car – will not only power customers homes with green energy but also their cars (either 100% electric or plug-in hybrids), plus they'll get free access to Ecotricity's national network of fast chargers[1] – the Electric Highway. This latest move comes after Ecotricity announced a price freeze for all gas and electricity customers until the end of winter (April 1st), making them cheaper[2] than the standard tariff of the Big Six energy companies.

Bentley considering diesel engine for new SUV

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Turns out, in case you didn't know, the rich are just like regular people. They too are concerned about the environment, even when tooling around town in their super-luxurious Bentleys. So the automaker is weighing the idea of offering a diesel engine in its SUV offering, which could help satisfy customers' demands for more fuel-efficient engines.
Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Schreiber told Autoblog in a roundtable interview at the Geneva Auto Show that the automaker is researching whether or not a diesel engine makes sense for the brand. Bentley, owned by the Volkswagen Group, could in theory use a diesel engine from anywhere in the Volkswagen Group family. We at Autoblog have hopes they'll revive the V10 TDI used in the VW Touareg until 2010, but ever-stricter emissions laws would likely make that problematic.
But rich people aren't so much like us that they'll be worried about petty things like pricing. Schreiber admitted the diesel engine could be a $15,000 option, which he said customers would probably find "acceptable." Given that the cheapest Bentley today starts at $177,000, typical customers probably won't be diddling around worrying about an extra 15 grand.

Yes, a family of 5 can live in a 1981 VW Westfalia van

Fri, Feb 14 2014

Automakers and marketers trying to reach environmentally conscious consumers who desire the simple life basically have two strategies: promote electric vehicles that can be charged through green energy or sell a 30-year-old Volkswagen van on Craigslist. Nicolas Boullosa and Kirsten Dirksen opted for Plan B and turned a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia camper into a "micro-living" experiment. The co-founders of the simple living website faircompanies packed up their van and three young children for a road trip through the Pacific Northwest. They even turned the adventure into a documentary called Summer of (Family) Love, which you can view below. It's two hours long, so maybe add this to your weekend viewing list. They limited themselves to one backpack per person into a camper that they purchased off Craigslist and named "Westy." They stuck to their original intention of cooking all their own meals off a propane stove, creating a new little home every night in a different location, mostly spaces outside RV parks. They met up with other enthusiasts of the "tiny house" community who live like nomads. They were able to interview a few of then and, "With each stop we picked up some new piece of wisdom about life's essentials," Dirksen wrote in the faircompanies blog.
