This 2006 VW Passat has been a great car for us and we hate to see it go, but a new car purchase means we are out of space. We are listing this car with no reserve, the winning bid buys this car. I will try to be as detailed as possible, but if I miss something please feel free to ask. The exterior of this Passat is beautiful Blue Graphite with sharp looking optional 17" factory sport wheels in satin silver, these larger wheels really make the car stand out from most other Passats on the market. The car spent a good portion of its life inside the garage so the paint is not faded. It does have a couple of rock chips and scratches, but certainly within normal wear. The car is rust free and not driven in the snow. The interior is black with the optional leather seats. The seats are in perfect condition and show no wear at all, not even on the drivers seat. In fact, the entire interior (including the trunk) is in amazing shape. The car comes with the original unused floor mats, as well as the optional factory deep grooved rubber mats, the carpet is perfect. The only signs of any wear in the interior are the lock buttons on the drivers door, these are cheap to replace if you want the interior to be perfect. Non-smoker car. The glass has no chips. The car does have the optional power moonroof and in dash 6 CD changer with XM Radio. Power locks, windows, mirrors, etc. As mentioned, under condition, the AC does not currently work. I read online these cars were notorious for having bad AC compressors. I recently bought a used upgraded compressor here on ebay and installed it, but I have not charged the Freon so this will still likely have to be done as I doubt I'll get around to it... other than that, I believe everything works on the car. The engine runs great and has had the oil changed religiously every 3,000 mile with the recommended synthetic oil and we always use 93 octane gas (it gets around 30 mpg on the highway). We've never had any mechanical issues with the engine. The 6 speed automatic transmission shifts perfectly, both manually and in the automatic mode. The brakes are fine and free from any vibrations. The tires are nether new, but don't need replacing either, I'd guess they have about 20,000 miles on them. The car rides and drives nice. We are the second owners and to the best of my knowledge the car has never been in any accidents or had any body work. We bought it from an older gentleman and it has been driven by a middle aged woman since, this car has not been abused at all. This Passat is a sharp looking car and is the latest generation body style, it looks like a 2010 model year... especially with the larger factory sport wheels. Overall it's in great shape and will no doubt make someone a happy owner. It's a lot of car for the money, there's no doubt about that. We will be happy to work with the buyer to make the pickup or delivery as easy as possible for the new owner. If someone would like to see or test drive the car before the end of the auction we'd be happy to show it. We have the clear title in hand. We are listing this with no reserve simply because we need the room. Please do not bid if you don’t have cash ready.

Ten of the greatest Super Bowl car commercials of all time
Thu, Jan 28 2016With an average of over 100 million viewers each year, the Super Bowl always has advertisers bringing out the big guns. And for those among us who don't know the difference between a safety and a touchback, those commercials can be one of the most compelling aspects of the annual ritual. Car companies, in particular, have a long history of making the most of the huge Super Bowl audience by debuting some of the most memorable advertisements that have ever aired on television. So, in preparation for the new batch we'll be seeing this coming Sunday, here's a collection of our favorites from the past. 10. Audi – The Godfather When Audi created this homage to the quintessential gangster movie to promote its newest sports car, the company managed to make a commercial that was simultaneously funny, a little bit disturbing, and most importantly memorable. 9. Maserati – Strike This one might start out slow, but it delivers not only with the wicked sound of the third-generation Ghibli's engine, but with an interesting message about hubris in the auto industry as well. 8. Nissan 300ZX Twin-Turbo – Dream Directed by none other than Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Alien), this dystopian spot has centers around a narrator who explains that in his dream the bad guys are unable to catch him despite their best efforts by way of street bikes, race cars, and supersonic jets. While the twin-turbocharged 300ZX car was certainly a performance powerhouse to be reckoned with in its day, the concept and execution of this one does come off a little bit campy now – but in a good way. Then again, it is a dream, after all. 7. General Motors – Robot This one is unique in that it's genuinely depressing on a profound level. Who would've thought that the simulated suicide of a lovable, anthropomorphic car-building robot who has fallen on hard times could be such a downer? 6. Nissan – With Dad Although the debut season of its new LMP1 racer didn't exactly turn out how the team hoped it would, there's no denying that Nissan's depiction of a strained father-and-son relationship that eventually leads to redemption (and the introduction of the 2016 Maxima) tugs at the heartstrings. 5. Volkswagen – Big Day A surprisingly poignant advert, this one might be low on dialogue but it certainly gets its message across. And just as the dramatic soundtrack begins to lull the viewer into a sense of security, our expectations are upended. 4.
Bosch fuel pumps spark recall of 2015 Golf, GTI and Audi A3
Tue, Apr 28 2015A few weeks ago, BMW and Nissan both issued recalls for some of their vehicles to replace Bosch-supplied fuel pumps. The pumps had nickel plating that could flake off and cause a failure. Volkswagen Group is the latest automaker to be affected by the problem and has a campaign for the 2015 Audi A3, VW Golf and GTI. In total, 6,204 units of these models are in need of repair. The problem with the VW Group vehicles is identical to the previous recalls. It's possible for the pump's nickel plating to come off and cause increased friction. Eventually, this can result in the component's failure. According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (as a PDF, here), there are no reports of accidents or injuries from this issue in the VW Group models. Bosch spokesperson Linda Beckmeyer tells Autoblog that these vehicles don't all necessary share an identical fuel pump, but the parts all use the same plating process. The problem also prompted repairs of the 2014 Ford Escape several months ago, she indicated. When asked if the issue could prompt more campaigns, Beckmeyer said that she "can't speak to that" because automakers decide on the recalls. Owners should receive notice of the problem soon, but according to the NHTSA documentation, there currently aren't enough pumps to fix all of these vehicles. "Bosch is working closely with automakers regarding replacement parts," Beckmeyer said. When available, dealers will replace the components free of charge for affected customers. A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]
Thu, Dec 18 2014Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
