2001 Vw Passat Wagon Gxl 4motion - Dark Metalic Blue Exterior, Tan Leather, B5 on 2040-cars
Hickory, North Carolina, United States
Here's a nice 2001 Passat Wagon. The car is in good shape for its age. It is very roomy yet sporty. It has been my wife's daily driver for the last year and a half, but we've decided to look for something that is a little less powerful and a little more fuel efficient. We installed the OEM LATCH child seat lower anchors in the back seat, and the car is still equipped with the OEM Monsoon radio and 6-disk CD changer. We have maintained the car well, including a new timing belt at around 100k miles, tires, batteries, overhauled ABS module, and a new electric cooling fan. I have saved records for all of this and more. We had a new key fob made when we purchased the car, so two are included in the auction. Here are the non-critical items that we have chosen not to fix, just because they weren't worth the cost:
The driver's seat leather is torn on the left side It sounds like there is a vacuum leak (hissing after shutdown) Radio LCD is intermittent Red center information display (shows driver messages, average MPG, etc) occasionally shows partially There is a small oil leak coming from somewhere- too small for us to bother troubleshooting The plastic cowling piece is cracked and missing a few small pieces Sometimes there is a groaning in the steering system There is a scratch on the black panel just behind the driver's window on the driver's door (see pics) As you can see, I want to be completely honest about the condition of the car, because it doesn't do either of us any good for you to come pick up the car and find it to be described inaccurately. In return I ask that you read the description carefully and bid only if you are a serious buyer. The car has a clear North Carolina title in my name, but please be advised- NC titles require a notary on the seller's signature. This can be a big hassle if you intend to pick up the car outside of regular business hours. I can't sign the title until it has a buyer's name on it, and I can't put the buyer's name on it until after payment. So option one is to pick up the car during business hours, and accompany me to a notary after purchasing the car. Option 2 is to pick up the car outside of business hours, write your name and address on the title, and leave the title with me as you take the car away. In this case, I will send the title to you after I can get it notarized, at my expense, via a tracked shipping service. In any case, I will cover the notary fee. |

VW using other manufacturing locations as leverage in battle with TN [w/video]
Sat, 26 Apr 2014We've reached a new step in the ongoing drama at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN. The United Auto Workers recently dropped its opposition to the union vote and agreed that it wouldn't hold another ballot for at least a year. Now, the new question becomes where VW is going to build its forthcoming midsize SUV.
Earlier, it had been considered all but certain that the SUV, likely a production version of the CrossBlue concept (pictured above), would be built in Tennessee. However, it seems the Chattanooga factory might have competition to produce it. In emails obtained by The Detroit News, VW's lawyer wrote to the Tennessee economic development department in January saying, "While we understand there are some 'non-deal' issues that are causing a delay in the TN solution, VW has been successful in reaching agreement on terms at the alternative locations."
As previously reported, the state of Tennessee allegedly offered VW about $300 million in incentives to build the vehicle there and create an estimated 1,350 jobs, but it later rescinded the deal. Newly leaked documents from NewsChannel 5 (WTVF-TV) in Nashville allegedly show just how close that offer was to being completed. It appears that VW actually sent the government the first draft of a memorandum of understanding agreeing to the incentives, but the state removed the offer in late January.
Volkswagen NMC production guise caught in China
Tue, 29 Apr 2014Chinese car site Autohome has what are said to be the first pictures of the Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe concept in production form. VW's NMC was just introduced at the Beijing Motor Show, while background chatter indicated it would go on sale in China, Autohome says that production version will be built at the Shanghai-Volkswagen plant in Ningbo, and the retail guise could be introduced at the Guangzhou Motor Show in November and go on sale that same month.
Assuming this is the production car, its main lines have made the jump from the concept but with less fine detailing, a silver hue and with conventional VW wheels it's lost a little bit of oomph. Still, a few checkmarks on the option sheet can fix most of that, the shape remains handsome and the 2.0-liter turbo underhood keeps performance peppy and mileage frugal enough. You can head to Autohome for a couple more photos of a sedan we'd be happy to make room for over here.
VW may move production because of Russia's cutoff of natural gas
Sun, Sep 25 2022Volkswagen AG is exploring ways to counter a shortage in natural gas, including shifting production around its network of global facilities, signaling how the energy crisis unleashed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine threatens to upend EuropeÂ’s industrial landscape. Volkswagen, EuropeÂ’s biggest carmaker, said Thursday that reallocating some of its production was one of the options available in the medium term if gas shortages last much beyond this winter. The company has major factories in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which are among European countries most reliant on Russian gas, as well as facilities in southern Europe that source energy from elsewhere. “As mid-term alternatives, we are focusing on greater localization, relocation of manufacturing capacity, or technical alternatives, similar to what is already common practice in the context of challenges related to semiconductor shortages and other recent supply chain disruptions,” Geng Wu, VolkswagenÂ’s head of purchasing, said in a statement. RussiaÂ’s decision to throttle gas supplies to Europe has raised concerns that Germany might be forced to ration its fuel. Recent news that gas storage levels hit 90% ahead of schedule has soothed fears of acute shortages this winter, but Germany faces a challenge in replenishing depleted reserves next summer without contributions from Russia. Southwestern Europe or coastal zones of northern Europe, both of which have better access to seaborne liquefied natural gas cargoes, could be the beneficiaries of any production shift, a Volkswagen spokesman said by phone. The Volkswagen group already operates car factories in Portugal, Spain and Belgium, countries that host LNG terminals. Labor hurdles To be sure, any major production shift away from EuropeÂ’s biggest economy would face significant hurdles. VW has some 295,000 employees in Germany and worker representatives account for around half the companyÂ’s 20-member supervisory board. Any shift in production would likely involve a limited number of vehicles rather than wholesale factory shutdowns. While gas supplies for VWÂ’s plants are currently secured, the company has identified potential savings at its European sites to cut gas consumption by a “mid-double-digit percentage,” said Michael Heinemann, managing director of VWÂ’s power-plant unit. Still, the carmaker said it was concerned about the effect high gas prices could have on its suppliers.
