1966 Vw Karmann Ghia 4spd $14,500 on 2040-cars
Midlothian, Virginia, United States
Classic 1966 VW Karmann Ghia with 1776cc High-Performance Engine for sale. If you are looking for a classic Ghia, it will be hard to find a nicer one than this car. The car looks, runs, and drives fantastic! As far as I know from previous owners, this car has always been garaged, spent its life in the dry Nevada high-desert and has 52K original miles. It is rust free, very straight, and has perfect pans. It also has the rare and coveted perfect Ghia nose (never been hit). Finally, it also has a 1776cc performance engine with dual Weber IDF 40mm carburetors. Mechanical: Performance wise, the car has lots of power, excellent brakes, good handling, and smooth shifting. With a 1776cc engine and dual Weber IDF 40mm carburetors, the car has the perfect balance of horsepower and performance without giving up reliability and economy. The engine is still fresh with approximately 14K miles, and it is mounted to a rebuilt 12Volt Transmission. The car also has a Compufire Electronic Pointless Ignition, which fires up quick. With the added horsepower of a 1776cc engine, the Ghia cruises down the highway at modern speeds with lots of horsepower to spare. The running gear has been maintained and serviced and the car handles superbly. There is no play in the steering and she is responsive and tight in corners. This Ghia is a real runner and a sheer joy to drive, but is also plenty reliable for everyday use. See more engine details below in features list. Exterior: Speedometer shows 60K original miles, and the car’s incredible condition testifies to its history. This is a Nevada high-desert car with no rust and a perfect Ghia nose. The glass is all in great condition with no chips or frosting. The trim, molding, and rubber on the car have all either been replaced or are in good condition. The car has a number of rare original trim pieces and all 1966 specific pieces such as the dash trim. One modification made to the car, which I actually like, is the side molding. It has specially embedded rubber in the chrome to protect the car against shopping carts, car doors, and other parking lot mishaps. It looks great but is also easily swapped out for original chrome molding if that is your preference. With a classic car, the flexible molding is an ingenious way to protect the car and keep it looking great. The dark green and white paint are in good condition. The chrome on the car is all in very good to excellent condition, as are the bumpers, with the exception of a couple of small dings. The chrome rims with Wolfsburg adorned hub caps look like new. The engine compartment and trunk are impeccably clean and the car even has the original tool kit and jack. Interior: The interior is mostly original and in great condition. Even the emergency flasher knob works, and glows red when the signal is activated. The carpet is like new and the car also comes with a set of specially fitted rubber mats that can be used on the floor to keep the carpet looking new. The dash, headliner, and visors are in great shape with no stains or splits. There are very few Karmann Ghias this clean that haven’t been through a complete “ground up” restoration, i.e., this Ghia is in very good to excellent condition for a car that is nearly 50 years old. Considering the condition of this car, and the fact that the engine/carburation alone is valued at over $5,000, this car is a great buy for someone who loves Karmann Ghias. Features

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program
Tue, 04 Oct 2011You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Volkswagen e-Co-Motion concept poised for delivery to Geneva
Sat, 02 Mar 2013With Nissan getting ready to launch the e-NV200, it appears Volkswagen is looking to go after the same zero-emission commercial vehicle market with the all-electric 2013 e-Co-Motion Concept. Debuting next week at the Geneva Motor Show, the e-Co-Motion Concept might be small in size, but VW says it has cargo and payload capacities that should be perfect for small businesses.
Measuring 179 inches long, 75 inches wide and 77 inches tall, the e-Co-Motion Concept has about the same footprint as the current Golf, and it has a cargo capacity of 162 cubic feet and a maximum payload of more than 1,700 pounds. There isn't too much information on the e-Co-Motion just yet - such as what electric components and platform are used - but the press release posted below states while the concept is shown as a cargo van, future body styles could include a passenger wagon or a refrigerated box van.
VW confirms new TDI for second half of 2014 in Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle
Tue, 18 Mar 2014Diesel lovers rejoice. Volkswagen is bringing the latest iteration of its 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine - dubbed the EA288 - to the 2015 model year Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle (2013 model pictured above) and Beetle Convertible, and the cars will be on sale in the second half of 2014.
While it shares its moniker with the old diesel, the new engine produces 150 horsepower, a 10-hp boost, and 236 pound-feet of torque. VW promises improved fuel economy as well, but it hasn't announced specifically what amount yet. The company claims that despite the same displacement, only the bore spacing is shared with the previous version. The mill includes new features like exhaust gas recirculation, an intercooler integrated into the intake manifold and low-friction camshaft bearings.
VW Group of America has had great success with diesels in the US recently. Vee-Dub and Audi sold 105,899 diesel-equipped models in 2013. It was the first time the group ever sold over 100,000 diesels in a year, and they accounted for 24 percent of sales. Scroll down to read the full press release about the announcement.
