Solid 1989 Jetta diesel, daily driver. Study the pictures carefully, feel free to contact me with any questions. Come drive it.
The mileage will be higher than the listing shows, I will keep driving it everyday until it's sold.
The body has very little rust, the worst rust being a few odd holes in the trunk wall. I touched up a few rusty spots with primer and OEM spray paint. The overall paint finish is fair. The body is straight, and the front end has been recently rebuilt with new ball joints and tie rods. The door handles are hard to operate, and all doors will open. The keyed cylinder for the trunk is missing, trunk still latches. No key for the doors.
The interior is old, and there are some stains. The cushion is crushed in the driver seat. A few trim pieces are missing or broken, nothing too bad, interior is fair. Brake pads, rotors, and master cylinder less than a year old. 4 new Firestone tires installed last winter, plenty of deep tread on the tires. Turn signal arm does not return.
The engine runs good and strong. New timing belt and water pump were installed at 250,000 miles as a preventative measure. Battery and alternator are less than a year old. I use a 50/50 mix of diesel and waste veggie oil in the same tank, the fuel mix is heated with a heat exchanger under the hood, works fine. The car has passed the Ohio emissions test every time; the emissions are clean, very little or no smoke. I replaced the glow plugs, relay, and block heater a couple years ago, all are still working. The AC system looks complete, but does not blow cold air. The exhaust has a new first pipe, gasket, and clips at the engine, and new pipe back to almost the rear axle. The muffler pipe is rusty, the muffler is not OEM.
The shifter is very loose, and it takes some finesse to go thru the gears, all the gears work. The fuel pump drips when engine is running, and leaves a few drops where the car is parked. The temp. gauge is not working, but the coolant system is full, and the radiator fan cycles. All other indicator lights work.
The Jetta is very solid and runs good. It is 24 years old, has old parts, and is driven daily. Sold AS-AS.
I encourage you inspect and drive the car. I work near Cleveland Ohio. Send me your phone number and I will call you back, or post any questions you have.

Volkswagen Passat gets Wolfsburg Edition, priced from $23,495*
Tue, 23 Apr 2013Volkswagen has just announced a new Passat Wolfsburg Edition, which slots between the base S and mid-grade SE trims in terms of content and price. The automaker has not released any official photos of the car as of this writing (aside from the badge shot you see here, of course), but the Wolfsburg Passat will be visually set apart from the rest by a unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels.
The big host of upgrades for the Wolfsburg Edition are found inside, where buyers will enjoy standard amenities like leatherette seats (with bun-warmers on the front chairs), a power driver's seat, satellite radio and a media interface with iPod connectivity. Of course, this comes on top of the already standard Passat features like Bluetooth and auto on/off headlamps. The Wolfsburg Passat will only be available with the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
Look for the 2013 Wolfsburg Edition Passat to hit dealerships in the very near future, priced from $23,495, *not including $795 for destination. Have a look below for Volkswagen's official press blast.
Volkswagen Multivan Alltrack Concept takes the luxury van life off road
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Volkswagen dug into its commercial vehicle fleet for its latest Geneva Motor Show concept, blending the versatile body of the T5 MultiVan with a luxuriously appointed interior, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a thrifty diesel powertrain.
That 177-horsepower diesel engine routes its power to the AWD system through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Based on that alone, we'd expect the Multivan Alltrack's behind-the-wheel experience to be somewhat familiar. That all-wheel-drive system and van body contribute to the 21-degree approach and 15-degree departure angles of this soft-roading MultiVan.
What wouldn't be familiar is its exquisite cabin. Volkswagen opted for a nautical theme for the concept's interior, featuring grey-blue leather seats from Poltrona Frau and a floor finished in real wood. The dark wood trim can also be found throughout the interior, running below the windows and on the dash.
Audi CVT suit settlement given green light, 64,000 cars covered
Mon, 07 Oct 2013Audi drivers, listen up. If you bought or leased a 2002-06 model-year A4 or A6 with a factory-installed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that failed, you may be entitled to reimbursement under a recently settled class-action lawsuit with corporate parent Volkswagen.
According to Automotive News, the settlement covers about 64,000 vehicles and alleges that "manufacturing and design problems caused the transmissions to fail and left owners stuck with repair costs." While the suit also argues Audi was aware of these issues (going so far as to hide that knowledge from consumers), the settlement stops short of acknowledging any wrongdoing by the German automaker.
Audi drivers are eligible for a cash reimbursement if their CVT repairs occurred within 10 years or 100,000 miles of the date they bought or leased the vehicle before June 19, 2013. To be eligible for compensation, drivers must submit a claim form (found here) with supporting documents by November 18.
