For sale is a one owner 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Turbo Diesel with manual transmission. It runs and drives 100%, has a clean Carfax and Autocheck and is being sold with no reserve. The 1.9L four cylinder turbo charged diesel engine purrs along without a miss, smoke or fluid loss. No "check engine" or any warning lights. The 5 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly with plenty of clutch. The steering, brakes and suspension seem normal with no issues. No exhaust leaks. The exterior is a glossy silver. There are no major dents or dings. There is a small scrape on the left rear fender above the tire (see pic) and front spoiler. The tires, on factory alloy wheels, have about 30% tread. Some wheels have curb rash (see pic). No body rust. The lights and lenses are bright with no cracks. There are no windshield cracks but there is a chip on the driver side. The interior is gray carpet and Volkswagen leatherette. Both are in very good condition. No stains, holes or rips. The front seats are heated. All the power options such as sunroof, windows, cruise control, side mirrors, etc. work as designed. There is a factory sound system with CD. The heat is hot and the AC is cold. This is a great running Jetta TDI. These vehicles, especially with a manual transmission, have been know to almost run forever. There are absolutely no current mechanical problems and no indication of any impending issues. The new owner will be able to drive home, with confidence, no matter where they live. VW announces recall of 26,000 2014 models with 1.8T engines
Tue, 22 Apr 2014Volkswagen has followed up on a stop-sale order from earlier this month, announcing a voluntarily recall of 26,400 vehicles that are powered by the brand's 1.8-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The new mill replaced the despised 2.5-liter five-cylinder in the Jetta, Passat, Beetle and Beetle Convertible last year. Weirdly, though, of the 26,452 units covered in the recall, only 1,655 are customer vehicles.
According to VW, the affected models were built between February 1 and April 6 of this year, and feature bad O-ring seals in the transmission oil cooler. Apparently, the faulty O-rings could cause a fluid leak, as they won't seal between the oil cooler and transmission. VW is blaming a material change from a supplier for the problem.
There have been no fires, injuries, accidents or fatalities relating to this issue, which VW will be fixing free of charge. Customers will need to report to dealers to have the O-rings replaced.
UAW tactics called into question at VW's TN plant
Thu, 26 Sep 2013The United Auto Workers is in hot water with some of the very workers it is trying to unionize at Volkswagen's Chattanooga assembly plant. According to The Tennessean, eight Volkswagen factory workers have filed complaints against the UAW with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming the union "misled or coerced" them into formally asking for union representation.
The UAW has instituted a major push at the Chattanooga plant to represent the 2,500 hourly laborers that build the VW Passat by using what's called a card-check process. The tactic is opposed by the National Right to Work Legal Defense foundation, the group representing the workers. The card-check process demands that a company recognize a union that obtains the signatures of more than half its workforce, according to The Tennessean. This tactic is in contrast to the more traditional route, which sees employees vote on union representation.
The workers filing the complaint claim that the UAW told them the cards merely called for a secret ballot, rather than an outright demand for union representation. Workers also allege that the UAW has made it overly difficult to reclaim their signed cards, some of which were signed so long ago that they have been rendered invalid. Although the cards can force a company's hand, federal law still allows the company to ask for a secret ballot before yielding to unionized workers.
VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga
Fri, 10 Jan 2014Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.
