You are looking at a 2003 Volkwagen Jetta TDI diesel 5 speed manual wagon with aluminum wheels. This a very rare combination! The car has a few minor issues, but is clean, and runs as smooth as the day it was new. To get to the point, the issues are as follows:
Dome lights don't work. I had it looked at. There is a bad proprietary relay somewhere that I haven't bothered to fix.
Losing a bit of power steering oil. I have to add about 2 oz. of power steering oil every month or so. Barely noticable, but it is losing it ever so slowly.
Losing a bit of engine oil. I have to add about a quart every 10,000 miles. Barely noticable, but there.
Bushing in suspension. A mechanic had noticed it when I had the power steering oil issue checked out. There's a click noise when you make a hard turn at low speeds.
Needs timing belt. I didn't replace it since I've decided to sell the car. Last done at 159000 miles. You'd need to do this soon.
Small exhaust leak. You can't even smell it, but you can see a bit of leakage near the muffler when the car starts.
Minor wear in driver's seat, and height adjustment is a bit hard to adjust
EGR valve isufficient flow. There's a light on for this one. Basically, you just get a puff of blue smoke when you start the car because of this. I left it that way because then the intake won't get gummed up.
Radio doesn't tune. The stereo works and sounds good, but the antenna connector is cracked, and I never bothered to fix it. Can't get AM/FM, but the rest of the stereo works just like it should. Replace the connector, and it will work fine. Head unit removal tools included.
Rear window washer fluid hose has a crack. Squirting window washer liquid on the rear window doesn't work all that well since there's a cracked hose.
A few spots of touch-up paint, and a few scratches. I've tried to show (even exaggerate) these in the photos.
Missing rear headrests. They were missing when I bought the car, and I never replaced them.
But here's the good news:
All new air conditioner system. A/C siezed last summer, and I had the whole thing replaced. Works well.
New tires in February. I have the paperwork. Warranty is transferrable.
Clutch is strong. No slippage in any gear at any weight on any incline.
Smooth engine. No issues here whatsoever. Even runs well in extreme cold or heat. We had +111°F here last summer, and -10°F this winter. Ran great.
Strong glow plugs. Car starts even in deep cold.
Extra stereo inputs. Accepts SD card, USB flash drive, 1/8" stereo plug
Comes with all manuals and stereo code.
Records of all service since I've owned the car.
If you're handy with these, then these fixes shouldn't be too much trouble. The upholstry has some wear as you'd expect for the age and miles. Please feel free to come by and check it over/test drive it. I've tried to be as honest as possible with the condition, and you are free to completely check over the car, so this car is being sold AS-IS. No warranty, no refunds. I'll accept cash, check, cashier's check or money ordr. I'll need a $200 deposit at offer acceptance. However, if you aren't able to see the car before making an offer, when you come to pick up the car and don't like it, I'll refund your deposit. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Volkswagen Golf R Evo may debut at Beijing Motor Show
Thu, 23 Jan 2014If a report in Auto Express is correct, a lighter, faster brother to the Volkswagen Golf R will be shown to the world at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Said to be called the Golf R Evo, the even harder hot hatch would be unveiled as one of those concepts that's practically a de facto presentation of the genuine thing. The Evo in its name will come from having a carbon fiber roof and CF in the bodywork, lighter wheels, thinner bucket seats up front and a roll cage instead of rear seats.
If there's a power increase, it's been described as "a small bump." However, as the report mentions, if the Jenny Craig regimen can drop 100 kilograms (220 pounds) from the the 3,247-pound weight of the European Golf R, then the Golf R Evo will do about the same damage on the scales as the Golf but have at least 50 more horsepower and 44 more pound-feet of torque.
Since we still don't have the current Golf, this isn't something that should keep you awake even if the 'concept' does become a production model. But it is good to know that the Golf R is really going to start pushing its boundaries.
VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs
Sat, 01 Mar 2014Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun.
For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany.
In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe."
Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'
Tue, 02 Apr 2013From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?
