Volkswagen

Mk2 Jetta GLI

You are bidding on a 1991 Tornado Red Jetta with a clear title. The car is being sold as is, it has a lot of miles on it and it has been cared for but not everything is perfect. I will do my best to disclose all information. The car will need the front brakes replaced in order for it to be considered "road safe" but it has a lot more life in it.  It has stock cloth Recaro seats which are in ok shape, some tearing, some smashed foam, I would consider this to be normal wear for the age. The dash and the windshield are cracked, the carpet is not in the best shape. There is a ding in the rear passenger corner by the light which can be seen in the photos. Other than that the body has normal damage for its age, hail spots, fading paint, and peeling clear coat in some spots. The body of the car says 431,333 on the odometer but I'm pretty sure it rolled up from the 200,000 mark. I bought the car when it had around 180,000 miles and it has been a joy! The guy I got it from had the car port and polished by a professional shop at around 160,000 miles and had Techtonics cams installed. He had an aftermarket TT exhaust installed without a catalytic converter and he also had Bilstein HD shocks installed. He told me he used a motor and tranny of the same type with around 70,000 miles. I never got receipts, I took his word for it based on the way it ran... He also had a cooler thermostat in the car but I had it replaced because he was only driving long distances in the summer with the car, and I drove it regularly all year long. It has a strut tie bar in the front. It does not have a radio or rear speakers. It also has Enkei rims with racing tires which will need to be replaced soon. The blower motor and the heater core were replaced in the past couple years. This is all I can think of for now...

I have done regular oil changes with Mobil 15 or 20W50 oil, I have changed the spark plugs and rotor recently. I have a video of me starting the car and running it for a while with a walk around. If you want to see it just shoot me an e-mail.

I have several other auctions running as well so please check them out, of course I do combine shipping charges. Shipping charges are created for U.S. Domestic only, international shipping is available as well. Please let me know if you need a shipping estimate.

VW decides against active-cooling system for e-Golf lithium battery

Tue, Apr 1 2014

When the 2015 VW e-Golf was introduced at the LA Auto Show last year, VW said it would come with a water-cooled battery. During the Detroit Auto Show, when the car was trotted out again, VW released a new press release that stripped out the "water-cooled" language, but this change went unnoticed. During a recent VW event in Germany, a friend from Green Car Reports realized that the battery on display did not seem to have any water-cooling mechanisms. That set us off on a bit of a sleuthing and we have now learned that VW is not going to include any active cooling in the upcoming e-Golf. In fact, the company is entirely confident that this car - because of what it's designed to do - doesn't need it. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there" - VW's Darryll Harrison VW has been working on an electrified Golf for ages now, and so changes to the plan are to be expected. But battery cooling is vitally important not just to keep the car operating properly but because when things get too hot, there can be serious public relations problems. Nissan began testing a new battery chemistry for the Leaf in 2013 after an uproar from warm-weather EV drivers in Arizona who were experiencing worse-than-expected battery performance. The Leaf has always used an air-cooled battery, which is another way to say that there is no active cooling system (more details here). Tesla CEO Elon Musk once said this approach is "primitive." So, why is VW following the same path? We asked Darryll Harrison, VW US's manager of brand public relations west, for more information, and he told AutoblogGreen that VW engineers discovered through a lot of testing of the Golf Mk6 EV prototypes, that battery performance was not impacted by temperatures when using the right battery chemistry. That chemistry, it turns out, is lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) in cells from Panasonic. These cells had "the lowest self-warming tendency and the lowest memory effect of all cells tested," Harrison said. He added that VW engineers tested the NMC cells in places like Death Valley and Arizona and found they didn't warm very quickly either through operation, charging (including during fast charging) or through high ambient temps. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there," Harrison said.

New investor allows Suzuki to fend off VW

Tue, Aug 4 2015

After years of legal wrangling, the long-soured partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki looks finally to be coming out of arbitration, according to Bloomberg. As a sign of the Japanese brand's improved fortunes, hedge fund Third Point LLC recently bought an undisclosed stake in the company. The investor reported seeing a major opportunity in the successful Maruti Suzuki business in India. As an investment, the only major problem that Third Point found with Suzuki was its legal battle with VW. "The company's greatest asset is its low-cost manufacturing process for vehicles for the emerging market consumer," the fund said in a letter, according to Bloomberg. Third Point reportedly also wants a seat on Suzuki's board, despite being a minority shareholder. The alliance between Suzuki and VW goes back to late 2009. In the deal, the Japanese brand was meant to get access to cutting-edge tech, and the German firm got a helping hand towards better establishing itself in India and Southeast Asia. Things didn't go as planned, though. Less than two years later, Suzuki's boss publicly derided the deal. Eventually, the allegations started going back and forth, and the two have been working out a way to untangle practically ever since. Among the biggest issue has been how to get back the 19.9 percent stake that VW purchased. According to Bloomberg, the arbitration is now technically over. With the divorce nearly final, the two sides are just waiting on a decision on how to split things up. Suzuki may even just buy VW's stake to get the shares back.

VW Group to split brands under four holding companies

Tue, Jun 16 2015

The Volkswagen Group is planning a tremendous shift in its internal structure that will decentralize operations by splitting its 12 brands into four different holding companies. Here's the breakdown. Things will be split logically, considering the inter-sharing of parts, platforms, and engines. The Volkswagen brand, Seat, and Skoda make up a passenger vehicle division led by former BMW man Herbert Diess. Audi, which is tightly intertwined with Lamborghini and motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, will be managed by current Audi exec Rupert Stadler. Porsche and Bentley, which are already quite close, will be joined by Bugatti and run by Matthias Mueller. Finally, a commercial vehicles division will include Volkswagen Commercial, Scania, and Man. Former Daimler exec Andreas Renschler will take care of the big vehicles. The massive move, according to Automotive News Europe, is part of an internal VAG effort to move away from the structure established by ousted Chairman Ferdinand Piech, who favored a compact, but highly centralized, management structure to oversee the independent actions of the company's brands. Criticism of Piech's arrangement stemmed from the company's slow responses to changes in the market, ANE reports. The new structure should make for a more efficient, streamlined company that's better able to make crucial decisions. What are your thoughts? Should VAG decentralize, or did Piech have the right idea? Have your say in Comments.
