1987 Vw Jetta Gli Turbo Diesel, Racaro Seats, New Engine, Power Steering. 47 Mpg on 2040-cars
Woodburn, Oregon, United States
Up for auction today is a 1987 VW Jetta GLI Turbo Diesel. I bought this car from a friend who has owned it for the last 5 years, but he took it to a oil change place and they did not put the filter back on right, and her blew the motor. The oil change place paid him but not enough to fix this car so I bought it from him. I did not want to try and rebuild his motor, so I took a 1.6 turbo diesel I bought and put it in. The engine was rebuilt from the ground up with all new internal parts. The new engine has about 1500 miles on it, it runs beautiful, and gets 47-52 MPG. I really like this care, but I need something that is a little more utility oriented. The car is in great condition, and gets a ton of VW people asking questions. I am going to list the good on this car, then the bad.
1. New rebuilt engine. Rebuild entails new main bearing, rod bearings, intermediate shaft bearing, engine seals, connecting rod, oil pump, gaskets, head bolts, cam, valves, timing belt, glow plugs, rebuilt injectors 2. Rebuilt injection pump. 3. Rebuilt turbo 20K ago. 4. New alternator 20k ago. 5. New clutch, flywheel, pressure plate 6. New battey 7. New CV shaft 8k ago. 8. New front brakes 5k ago. 9. New euro grill and head lights. 9. Racaro trophy seats. 10 Beautiful headliner. 11. Nice carpets. 12. New CD player with ipod in. 13. Teardrop wheels with tire 70% good. 14. GLI body package. 15. Electrical works great. 16. No leaks. 17. No rust. 18. Body and pint in great condition. 19. Door seals in perfect condition. Bad. 1. Dash has a few cracks. 2. A/C not working? 3. Front seats have some cracks but no holes. 4. Cruise control not working. 5. Has small dings/scratches here and there. 6. One mark on hood where some one painted it. See pictures. I have done a honest and fare accounting on this car to the best of My ability. This is a great car that is sure to give many more years of great service. I would feel safe driving this car 1000 plus mile on a trip or as a daily commuter. It is car is not perfect, but you would be hard pressed to find one in this nice of a condition. This is your chance to get your hands on a beautiful car that will be hard to find later. This auction is for a car that is sold as is. If you are local to Portland, Salem Oregon area and would like to come see the car you can call Me at 619-253-0955 and I am Joshua. If you are a bidder from out of area and want the car shipped, I can drop the car with in 30 miles of 97071. Please ask question if you have them. I am taking offers on the car. Thank you and happy bidding. On Feb-05-14 at 19:20:20 PST, seller added the following information: For those of you bidders who live in areas that you have to smog, this car is SMOG EXEMPT, and in California you can get 4 year tags on it for the same price as two. VW recalls 25k Jettas over low-beam headlight issue
Wed, Dec 31 2014Volkswagen has discovered an issue with the headlamps on its latest Jetta and is issuing a recall notice in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to correct the issue. The problem revolves around the headlight control module, which has been found in certain instances to switch off the low-beam headlights when the high beams are turned on. Needless to say, that could result in insufficient illumination in the dark, so VW is moving to update the module's software. The issue only affects the new 2015 Jetta – specifically those manufactured between July 11, 2014 (which just happens to be this writer's birthday, thank you very much) and November 13, 2014. All in all, the Volkswagen Group of America estimates that encompasses 25,007 units in the United States, the owners of which can expect to hear from their dealers in the new year. RECALL Subject : Insufficient Headlight Output Report Receipt Date: DEC 15, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V790000 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING Potential Number of Units Affected: 25,007 All Products Associated with this Recall close VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 2015 Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. SUMMARY: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jetta vehicles manufactured July 11, 2014, to November 13, 2014. Due to incorrect software within the headlight control module, the low beam headlights may turn off when high beam lights are turned on. As a result, the light output from the headlights may be insufficient. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." CONSEQUENCE: Insufficient headlight output may increase the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will update the headlight control module software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in January 2015. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 57F6. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
VW, Fiat, Mercedes could be CNG winners in Europe
Fri, Dec 12 2014Fiat ads in the US try to play up the exotic, sexy side of Italian culture. On the home front in Italy, however, passenger-vehicle sales are marked by something less edgy and quite a bit more practical: the growth of compressed-natural-gas (CNG) powered car sales. In fact, Italy is leading a group of European countries where CNG sales are on the upswing and may be benefiting automakers like VW, Fiat and Mercedes-Benz, according to Automotive News. VW started sales of its Golf TGI natural-gas vehicle this year – the company's fourth in Europe – while Mercedes-Benz added a natural-gas B-class model. Fiat accounts for about 50 percent of CNG vehicles sold on the continent. In all, Europe's CNG sales through September totaled about 67,000, up seven percent from a year earlier, Automotive News Europe says, citing research firm JATO Dynamics. And the number of CNG vehicles on Europe's roads could jump tenfold within the next decade. The draw is a combination of lower refueling prices and a CNG drivetrain that typically emits less CO2 than diesel vehicles. As for Italy, about five percent of new-vehicle sales are CNG. To put that into perspective, hybrids, battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and diesels combined to account for about 4.2 percent of US vehicle sales last year. Volkswagen debuts MkVII-based diesel Golf GTD
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As Volkswagen prepares for the launch of the seventh-generation Golf, it continues to show off some of the car's different variants. With the standard Golf and the ultra-efficient BlueMotion Concept out of the way, now we're finally starting to see some of the sportier versions planned for the hatchback. Confirmed for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen has now given us our first glimpse at the Golf GTD.
Just think of the GTD as a diesel version of the GTI with all the handling and styling upgrades, and then add a torquey engine to the equation. (We had the chance to sample the current GTD over the summer, so click here to read more.) To go with the new body style, VW also gave the GTD a new TDI engine consisting of a similar turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter inline-four layout but with an output of 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque - that's an increase of 14 hp and 22 lb-ft over the current GTD. That's a pretty good oomph, but the GTD won't be setting any acceleration records with VW quoting a 0-62 mile per hour time of 7.5 seconds thanks to the car's 3,036-pound curb weight.
The styling of the MkVII Golf lends itself quite well to the more aggressive body kit found on the GTD (and likely matching the GTI). The new front fascia and blacked-out grille give the GTD a sporty look up front, while 17-inch sport wheels, rocker panel extensions and smoked LED taillights finish off the visual changes. The GTD will only be offered in three exterior colors: Tornado Red, Black and Pure White. As expected, the interior gets the plaid seat inserts and flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, but the car also gets stainless steel pedals, a black headliner, ambient cabin lighting and a specific gauge cluster readout.
