Put $40.00 in the tank and drive about 500 miles before thinking about stopping again!!
HAS THULE ROOF RACKS - NOT PICTURED BUT WILL INCLUDE IF WANTED.
The car rides and drives nicely and I have put 8K miles on it in the 4 months I've had it.  I drive over 30K a year which is why this car saved me a lot of money in just the short time I've had it.

What's Bad:
I've sold vehicles on eBay before and always give a very honest and comprehensive assessment of what the vehicle's problems are.  I don't want the buyer to have any surprises.

I purchased this vehicle from Caliber Imports in Montrose, NY - who deals exclusively in these VW Diesels - I paid $8,800 for the car.  I wanted the VW Diesel because of the amazing mileage (I was told 50 MPG but this gets 45)
I made the mistake of believing the seller about a lot of things, the worst being a clean carfax.  The vehicle does not have a salvage title but the carfax says "structural damage in left front pillar".  This makes the resale a problem, although I had a professional body mechanic inspect the car and was told that either there was no damage or it was fixed so well that there's no way to tell.  The car rides very nicely, especially on the highway.  I will email you a scan of the carfax or you can check the Vehicle History Report eBay provides.  The eBay vehicle history report does not have the same warning about "possible structural damage" as carfax - but the buyer should know that the carfax paints a darker picture of the vehicle's history.

Otherwise, there are some issues where you will have to spend some money, which is why I'm not keeping it.  For me to put more money into the car would mean that I spent what amounts to the price of a reasonable new car on a used car, so it is best that I sell this car, proceed civilly against Caliber Imports, and buy new.

I've had this car checked by 2 different mechanics because I have a small claim filed against the seller so I will list what both Danbury Volkswagen  and Meccanic Shop North in North Salem, NY found alongside the problem I describe.

Cranks slowly on cold start -
Fault for quantity adjuster in injection pump, failing starter.

Squeaking in front end -
Sway bar bushings, brackets, front struts

Has on occasion bogged, worst case on a very steep hill with three (3) people in the vehicle -
Mass air sensor

Glove box door won't close.
Replace door.

Musty smell
Replace carpets.

Meccanic Shop North is very well known or servicing high end foreign cars, and their estimate to bring the car into a very sound mechanical condition was $1,383.79.
Danbury Volkswagen (dealers are know for outrageous service fees) came in at around four times that amount - $5295.00

To the right person, this car is very valuable.  I still drive it daily and I'm saving a ton of money over my F250 diesel that gets about 14 MPG.  I noticed right away how I have a lot more spending cash driving this car around.

I'm listing it at $1,200 more than the cost of the radio which is brand new and wish everyone luck bidding.

I just noticed a small chip in the windshield which I will have repaired.

VW of Danbury indicated that there is some oil seepage from valve cover gasket.

2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

The Golf VI's Last Hurrah Is Pure Niche
This was in the heart of the ultra-chic Côte d'Azur during winter. The car to be tested was the not-for-North America 2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet. Prevailing weather conditions here this time of year are bizarrely pleasant, as though a dome of Swarovski crystal has been placed over the entire region to protect it from any real winter spoiling things. And the zippy Golf R Cabriolet is a sports car designed precisely for this area's preciously narrow winding streets, as well as for the lofty budgets of its property owners.
So then why was it snowing like we were in northern Michigan? The weather front hit from the north like a swift kick to the Jordaches. The roof was open on this Candy White Golf R Cabrio and I, as is my wont, was determined through thick or thin to keep it retracted. It had been raining and sometimes sleeting like the End of Days, but I kept the lid cracked because the 261-horsepower cabrio - the most powerful convertible ever built by Volkswagen - was snipping along nicely as the bad weather blew over my head and wetted only the rear headrests.

Weekly Recap: Volkswagen moves forward under Muller

Sat, Sep 26 2015

Most stunning was the speed of it all. On the morning of September 18, Volkswagen AG stood atop the automotive world. It was profitable and sold more cars than Toyota and General Motors, its two main rivals for global supremacy. By nightfall, the company would be embroiled in scandal. Revelations the German auto giant cheated on diesel emissions testing in the United States reverberated from Washington to Wolfsburg, Germany. What started out as a problem with 482,000 VWs and Audis in the US exploded into an international scandal. Millions of vehicles have the rigged software, meaning VW broke environmental rules as its cars spewed pollutants all over the world. The fallout began immediately. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn – one of the most respected and capable executives in the business – apologized on Sunday and Tuesday. On Wednesday he resigned. As the week progressed, the company's stock took a beating and credit agencies threatened to drop their ratings. VW dealers and owners said they felt betrayed. The automaker hired a law firm that defended BP after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The EPA is already extending its testing procedures to look for "defeat devices" like the ones used by Volkswagen. On Friday the company announced a major restructuring. Matthias Muller, Porsche's chief for the last five years, took over as CEO of Volkswagen and is charged with picking up the pieces of a shattered company facing regulatory action and lawsuits. With GM, Toyota, and Takata scandals still fresh, Volkswagen will likely experience unprecedented levels of scrutiny. Additionally, VW's markets in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be combined into a North American region under the leadership of former Skoda boss Winfried Vahland, though US chief executive Michael Horn will stay on. The company is also realigning its brands by specialty and streamlining its board. Firings, government action, restructurings, and international outrage – things that usually build up over months or years – all occurred in about a week. With dizzying speed, Volkswagen's future has changed dramatically. It all happened, it's still happening, so fast. OTHER NEWS & NOTES 2016 Buick Cascada to start at $33,990 Buick hasn't made a convertible in 25 years. That's a whole person who can drink plus a kindergartner. So it's been awhile. Enter the 2016 Buick Cascada. It has top-shelf Opel engineering, slinky design, and it's reasonably priced.

How VW's hyper-efficient XL1 will influence the next Golf

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

In 2007, the European Union mandated fleet average CO2 emissions of 158.7 g/km. For 2015, that figure will drop to 130 g/km, and the target for 2020 is an ambitions 95 g/km. Thanks to some German politicking, that target will be phased in from 2020 to 2024, but it will still apply to 80 percent of passenger cars in that first year. In US miles per gallon, that's the equivalent of going from about 35 mpg to 42 mpg to 57 mpg. The current Volkswagen Golf is rated from 85 g/km of CO2 to 190 g/km depending on model - and zero for the e-Golf, so for the next-generation MkVIII hatch due in 2019, to meet the goal, Volkswagen engineers will need to introduce a bunch of new tricks. According to a report in Autocar, VW be mining its hyper-efficient XL1 for some of them.
Predictions for the next Golf include a variable-compression engine, an electric flywheel and an electric turbo, along with taking greater advantage of coasting. Volkswagen could be getting help from Audi with the electric turbo and variable-compression engine and electric turbo, with Audi already having shown off the former and brand technical boss Ulrich Hackenberg confirming the VW Group is working on the latter. It's possible the flywheel system could also have the mark of The Four Rings: Autocar mentions a British system that Volvo is testing, but the R18 e-tron Quattro racer has been using one for years.
The need for such features is because the company won't be able to net enough future gains from just aerodynamic improvements and advanced materials. As price will be a factor (the regulations are expected to "add hundreds of euros to the cost of building a car"), adding much more aluminum or carbon fiber is an unlikely option. We're told the next generation won't be longer or wider than the current car, and being Europe's most popular model, VW doesn't want to make a big bet on futuristic aero, but the report says the MkVIII will "likely" have "the most aerodynamic treatment yet seen on a production vehicle," the area where lessons learned from the XL1 will truly be seen.
