It's time to part ways with my car. It's been a fun two + years, but I've picked up something new and am putting the GTI up for sale.
I am the 2nd owner, having purchased it as a CPO vehicle in March 2011. It had just over 30K miles then, and it now has 85,1XX. I'm still driving it on occasion, so the mileage may increase. The car has never been smoked in, and both the exterior and interior are in excellent condition, and don't reflect the mileage. Zero accidents, spotless CarFax. DSG Heated Seats Sirius Gorilla Gear tray/blocks OEM Monster Mats and OEM Summer Mats Engine Modifications: APR K04 APR HPFP AWE S3 Intercooler S3 Injectors 3" Catless Downpipe DriverGear Cat Back System with Magnaflow Tips Noise Pipe Delete BSH PCV Revamp Kit Revision D Diverter Valve ESC Dogbone Insert The K04 was installed last summer by HS Tuning in OH, at approx. 65,000 miles. Zero issues. Cam follower has been checked on a regular basis, and was replaced 5,000 miles ago, even though the one in the car looked great at 13,000 odd miles. Oil changes ever 5,000 miles. Only Motul or Castrol has been used. Other than myself, the only shops to touch the car were Steve's European Automotive in Waterford, MI, HS Tuning in OH, and Howard Cooper (now Germain) VW in Ann Arbor, MI. I have all service records. DSG Mechatronics unit was replaced under warranty at time of CPO inspection, and was serviced at around 58,000 miles. Intake cam was replaced under warranty. Suspension/Brake Modifications: Eibach ProKit Springs Koni SRT-T Shocks/Struts H&R 24mm Rear Sway Bar Hawk HPS Pads SS Lines ATE Super Blue Fluid Summer: Continental ContiSportContact 5 tires - 225/40/18 mounted on 18 x 8 Sparco Assetto Gara wheels - professionally painted Electric Blue Pearl. Tires were on one summer, all measure between 8/32 and 9/32 and include TPMS sensors. Springs/struts/rsb were installed at around 55,000 miles. Pads, lines and fluid were done at the same time as the K04 install. Misc. I had an offer to sell it and did so. The car now has an OEM vent installed.* There is a lien on the car, and if you pay in cash, the lien would be released the same business day. Other funds will require a 10 day waiting period per my credit union, before a lien release is issued. If you are from out of state and are flying in to Detroit Metropolitan Airport or another local airport, I will make every reasonable attempt to meet you at the airport and pick you up to take you to the car. |

VW ready to spend $25B on at least 6 EVs in China by 2018
Tue, Apr 22 2014Standing next to the lovely GTE plug-in hybrid during the Beijing Motor Show, VW CEO Martin Winterkorn announced a renewed, $25-billion focus for the German automaker on electric mobility in China. EVs + China is not a new equation for VW (see here and here and here), but the time is now for the plan to come together, apparently. As Winterkorn said in a statement (available below), "We are launching the biggest initiative for e-mobility in China's automotive history." In 2015, the Audi A3 e-tron and Golf GTE will arrive. In 2016, there will be two exclusive-to-China plug-in hybrid vehicles in showrooms: a A6 PHEV and a "new mid-size limousine from the Volkswagen brand." VW Group may even throw in the Bentley Hybrid Concept for good measure. The China-only models will be built in the country and VW is investing over $25 billion between now and 2018, creating an expected 20,000 jobs. Skoda unveils Volkswagen Up!-based Citigo
Tue, 27 Sep 2011This is the all-new Skoda Citigo, and if you're thinking that it looks rather familiar, that's because its Volkswagen-badged kin recently debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. That's right, the long-rumored Skoda version of Volkswagen's new Up! city car has finally arrived.
Buyers will have a choice of two 1.0-liter three-cylinder engines - one with 59 horsepower, the other with a 74 hp and a blistering 106 mph top speed - both mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Powerful they are not, but these three-bangers should prove to be extremely efficient, with Skoda quoting fuel economy numbers of 62.8 and 60.1 miles per gallon, respectively (on the European cycle).
Being a Skoda, the Citigo will go on sale in its home market of the Czech Republic this fall, with the rest of Europe getting the car next summer. Follow the jump for Skoda's official release.
VW modular platform strategy goes all-in on EVs
Tue, Jan 7 2014The Volkswagen Group has already revealed or put on sale a broad slate of new electric vehicles: the E-up, the E-Golf (shown above), the Porsche 918 Spyder, the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the XL1. In 2014, there will be at least six more models, including the A3 Sportback E-Tron. And after that? Well, to hear Rudolf Krebs, Group Commissioner For Electric Vehicle Drive Systems, tell it, VW's future is full of plug-in goodness. "With our platform strategy, it is quite easy to bring a lot of electrified vehicles to the market for the different brands in a very short time," he said. "We try, with a minimum of those components, to produce a maximum number of variants of cars" That strategy starts with three platforms: MQB for small cars, MLB for midsize models and MSB for sporty and premium products (there's also the NSF for cars like the E-up). Speaking to AutoblogGreen, Krebs said VW has designed modules, things like engines and electric components (think: AC compressor, on-board chargers and battery management systems), to be used across all three platforms and across all brands all. "We try, with a minimum of those components, to produce a maximum number of variants of cars," he said. "This is only possible if, at an early stage of the design of new vehicles, we implement the idea that these cars are not only designed for gasoline and diesel powertrains but that we can also include CNG concepts, flex-fuel concepts, pure electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid vehicles. With minor changes in the body in white, we can produce those vehicles, bumper-to-bumper, in one factory." "VW wants to be the leader in the electrification of vehicles" In this way, customers can choose the powertrain that they want, or whatever powertrain their local regulations demand. Politicians have already put a lot of pressure on the automotive industry, with ever-stricter CO2 regulations coming into effect in all of the major markets. In the US, the fuel economy regulation numbers require the equivalent of 101 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer by 2025. Europe, it's 95 grams by 2020. And China, which is asking for 118 grams by 2020, will be a tough scenario, Krebs said. Today, by optimizing conventional technologies and supporting things like CNG and biofuels, more than 300 VW Group models emit less than 120 g/km. A hundred of those are even under 100 g/km. But this is not sufficient, and VW admits that conventional powertrains will not be not enough.
