2001 Volkswagen Vw Gti Glx on 2040-cars
Imperial, Missouri, United States
I'd like to trade this car for a "1st Generation 4Runner".....or
sell it out right...I AM NOT INTERESTED IN ANY OTHER POSSIBLE
TRADES...please.
I've had the car about 3-4 years....my back and forth to work car...when I bought it, it had just received a new clutch. After I purchased it, I put new rotors and brakes on all fours, replaced the water pump/serpentine belt and tensioner, plugs and plug wires, black leather center consel lid, replaced the front tires (have since been replaced again), and intalled an AWE all-stainless catback exhaust, K&N filter intake (I think it is K&N but not sure....I just bought what "German Autoparts" supplied.....The car was inspected and passed in September 2013 after replacing the catalytic converter (cost me $1000). I have put several thousand dollars into the car and I know that some of it was maintenance but it currently has just over 166,000 miles and runs and sounds great. The windows are tinted and it looks really AWESOME but the passenger window just started peeling ($25 dollar fix-see photo). It has the 2.8L VR6 with a 5 speed manual. It's all black leather inside...no tears in the leather or the dash, however, the driver side seat back seam needs to be restitched about 3 inch length. This can be easily fixed but I just don't have the time. Windshield does have a crack in it about eight inches long on the passengers side but has not moved in the last 3 years that I've had it and the center counsel serving the back seat area has one missing endcap. It's a pretty car and sounds great...but I need a truck....I don't see many of these on the road...black on black with every option available for the GTI-GLX including sunroof, automatic climate control, cruise, tilt, all leather, stock fog lights and heated front seats. Everything works and it drives great. The engine light goes off and on for some reason ...I'm fairly certain that it's because the air intake hose is not completely sealed around the intake...I've tried wrestling with it but it tires me out...it runs like a race car and I've already replaced the catalytic coverter so I know it's not a high dollar item. Let me know what you would like to know about the car....I'll do my best to answer any questions. Thanks for looking! |

European car sales up 8% in February
Sat, 22 Mar 2014Three weeks ago an analyst increased projections for European car sales this year, expecting them to climb three percent compared to last year instead of 2.7 percent. That number is a postive sign after years of hard times but it turns out February was especially good, overall European sales climbing eight percent on a wave of southern European recovery and discounts - and this comes after five months of gains including January's 7.2-percent jump over the year before.
The only country of Europe's five largest markets to post a decline was France, just as it did in January, Germany, the UK and Italy posting solid double-digit numbers, Spain rocking the charts with an 18-percent increase because of a government program to encourage trade-ins.
The only brand to miss the wave was Volkswagen, dropping 0.8 percent as it watched the double-digit growth at sister brands Audi, Seat and Skoda lift the Volkswagen Group sales up by seven-percent. Peugeot overcame flat sales at Citroën to improve the group by 3.5 percent, BMW and the Mercedes-Benz/Smart combo rose by four percent, the Fiat group jumped 5.8 percent, Ford was up 11 percent, the Renault Group 11.5 percent, General Motors 12 percent and the Toyota clan by 14 percent.
Rising aluminum costs cut into Ford's profit
Wed, Jan 24 2018When Ford reports fourth-quarter results on Wednesday afternoon, it is expected to fret that rising metals costs have cut into profits, even as rivals say they have the problem under control. Aluminum prices have risen 20 percent in the last year and nearly 11 percent since Dec. 11. Steel prices have risen just over 9 percent in the last year. Ford uses more aluminum in its vehicles than its rivals. Aluminum is lighter but far more expensive than steel, closing at $2,229 per tonne on Tuesday. U.S. steel futures closed at $677 per ton (0.91 metric tonnes). Republican U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is weighing whether to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which could push prices even higher. Ford gave a disappointing earnings estimate for 2017 and 2018 last week, saying the higher costs for steel, aluminum and other metals, as well as currency volatility, could cost the company $1.6 billion in 2018. Ford shares took a dive after the announcement. Ford Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks told analysts at a conference in Detroit last week that while the company benefited from low commodity prices in 2016, rising steel prices were now the main cause of higher costs, followed by aluminum. Shanks said the automaker at times relies on foreign currencies as a "natural hedge" for some commodities but those are now going in the opposite direction, so they are not working. A Ford spokesman added that the automaker also uses a mix of contracts, hedges and indexed buying. Industry analysts point to the spike in aluminum versus steel prices as a plausible reason for Ford's problems, especially since it uses far more of the expensive metal than other major automakers. "When you look at Ford in the context of the other automakers, aluminum drives a lot of their volume and I think that is the cause" of their rising costs, said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at auto consultancy LMC Automotive. Other major automakers say rising commodity costs are not much of a problem. At last week's Detroit auto show, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne reiterated its earnings guidance for 2018 and held forth on a number of topics, but did not mention metals prices. General Motors Co gave a well-received profit outlook last week and did not mention the subject. "We view changes in raw material costs as something that is manageable," a GM spokesman said in an email.
VW planning 20 new plug-in models for China
Thu, Oct 30 2014With just about everything getting super-sized for China, Volkswagen is following suit with its plug-in vehicle plans for the world's most populous country. VW, Europe's largest carmaker, is looking to sell more than 20 different plug-in models in China within the next four years, Reuters says, citing comments Volkswagen Group China head Jochem Heizmann made in Shanghai. The company is hoping that translates to sales of more than 100,000 plug-ins in China by the end of the decade. Go big or go home, right? There's a huge plug-in vehicle opportunity in China, especially given the bad pollution situation in cities like Beijing and Shanghai and the Chinese government's incentives for plug-in vehicle buyers. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn said at the Beijing Motor Show this spring that the company would spend $25 billion on at least a half-dozen plug-in models for China by 2018. VW will start selling the e-Golf in China this year and the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid in 2015. VW said in August that it would start selling the e-Golf in the US for about $35,500 in November. That's a $6,500 price hike from the base Nissan Leaf.
