2003 Eurovan MV. Enthusiast owned, in perfect mechanical condition, with 110,091 miles. I purchased this van in 2008 shortly after it had come off lease at about 85,000 miles. Since I have owned it, I have maintained it religiously, with all fluid and filter changes exceeding VW recommendations. That includes engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, oil, air, cabin, and fuel filters. Transmission shifts smoothly and I've changed the ATF fluid and filter twice. Engine is perfect and all spark plugs were replaced. I replaced the water pump and serpentine belt as a preventative measure. The AC system received an overhaul with new compressor, expansion valves, and drier/filter. AC is ice cold and heat is blazing.

Bilstein shocks were put on the front and back. Rear tires are between 7/32 and 8/32 (70% to 80%) and front tires are at 6/32 or 60%. A Class 2 hitch was added only for carrying bicycles (never towed anything).

The van has plush LLoyd Mats in the front and rear passenger area. These mats look great and have excellent coverage, giving the van the feel of having new carpet.

Modifications include a Blaupunkt in-dash DVD Stereo that is wired to a custom mounted 20" LCD TV in the back. This mount is easily removable with the twist of a pipe connection. This is a rare non-weekender MV that contains an auxiliary battery. I had an auto electric shop make a custom wiring harness models after the German Weekender wiring harness. A high capacity auxiliary battery is installed under the drivers seat, with a custom fuse panel and new power leads at the rear of the seat. One of these leads provides power to the TV and the other provides an outlet for a refrigerator or other accessory. The TV outlet has an voltage regulator installed in-line. I've modded the electrical system so that all of the rear lights and outlets run off of the auxiliary battery and I've added a aux battery volt meter to the dash.

A 120V GFCI outlet has been installed in the cabin area, with an extension cord that is accessed from a faux foglight at the rear of the van. This is great for camping at site with electrical power connections and allows the use of 120v appliances in the cabin.

I've been using a Waeco Coolfreeze 35 quart refrigerator. This refrigerator is super efficient and runs for days off the auxiliary battery. I've attached a custom harness/hold down and anti-theft cable lock. I'm not inclined to sell this $$$ refrigerator as I can use it with my other Eurovan, but will include it with a full price offer only.

The van runs like new. The ONLY reason I am selling is because I just purchased a Weekender EV with poptop. I have two kids and we had been tent camping with this van. In fact, the bed has never been slept in. The van has almost all highway miles as we typically drove it on weekends to camp out of state.

The alternator was recently rebuilt and the van has a brand new starting battery.

Bonus items included with this sale include a full set of curtains that have never been used, a TomTom Go navigation device with power cord, and a radar detector (just because I have extras and don't need these). More photos can be sent via email.

The van is located 5 minutes from historic downtown Charleston, SC and surrounding beaches. Take a nice vacation and come get the van of your dreams.

VW to relax ambitious US sales targets?

Fri, 16 May 2014

The Volkswagen brand sold 407,704 cars last year, a 6.95-percent decline compared to 2012, and it's down a further 8.36 percent through the end of April 2014 compared to this time last year. In order to to put the sales football between its Strategy 2018 goal posts, the brand would need to add 100,000 more sales every year to achieve the lofty 800,000-unit target. Coming to grips with how unreasonable that is, VW US CEO Michael Horn has said, "For now, we have to have realistic targets."
The reasons for the brand's slow-down are imprecise, but lots of folks are throwing lots of reasons around. Last November, VW Group Chairman Ferdinand Piech told Bloomberg, "We understand Europe, we understand China and we understand Brazil, [but] we only understand the US to a certain degree so far." Analysts say the brand hasn't had midsize and compact SUV offerings, especially an overdue retail version of the CrossBlue, and the ones it does have are priced too high for their segments. It "didn't introduce enough new engines, or alternative technologies or model variants" for the Passat and Jetta. It devoted so many resources to China that the US market suffered. It was being outspent two-to-one on advertising by competitors. Its J.D. Power dependability ratings aren't high enough to overcome its past. It "has never really taken the US customer seriously." And so on.
There's still no official admission of defeat concerning the target, but reading between the lines there are some VW execs that appear to accept it won't happen short of some deus ex machina. Still,

Weekly Recap: Diesel scandal continues to fuel VW's woes

Sat, Oct 3 2015

Volkswagen's woes continued this week when it was delisted from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and stripped of awards. Senators are also lining up to advocate for criminal and civil action against the automaker, and its consumer reputation is in tatters. Put simply, it's been another rough period for VW. Despite this, the company eked out a sales gain of less than one percent in September, though that was well behind the overall market's performance. Sister brand Audi, which sells a diesel A3, was less affected, posting a 16-percent gain in September. Revelations that Volkswagen rigged millions of diesel-powered cars around the world didn't surface until September 18, so the full sales impact of the ongoing scandal won't likely be felt until October. Meanwhile, VW's image continues to take a beating, and an AutoPacific survey found only one in 14 vehicle owners have a positive opinion of the company. Before the scandal broke, three-quarters of respondents had a positive view of VW. The survey also found 64 percent don't trust Volkswagen, though the same number believe other companies are or may also be using cheating devices to pass emissions tests. "The reputation of diesels has been severely damaged, at least for the short term," Ed Kim, AutoPacific's vice president of industry analysis, said in a statement. Despite the lingering malaise, experts believe VW will recover, just as Toyota and General Motors eventually emerged from their own high-profile controversies. "Consumers have proven through numerous recalls that they are resilient and quickly return to their buying habits," Kim said. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Mazda to reveal sports car concept in Tokyo Mazda will bring a curvy sports car concept to the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The automaker is being especially coy with the details, only releasing the dark teaser shot that you see to the right and a cryptic statement that suggests the concept "condense[s] Mazda's entire history of sports-car development into a single model." Immediately, speculation abounded this is an RX-7 and RX-8 successor, though Mazda didn't specify what engine the concept will have. Reportedly, the company is still working on rotary engines. Mazda will have a Cosmo Sport 110S on its stand in Tokyo, which pioneered rotary technology in 1967. Read into that what you will. Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.
