Up for bid is my 2002 VW Eurovan which is my current daily driver.  I've had many VW vans including a '59 Panel, '71 Kombi, '82 Westfalia, '91 Vanagon, '99 Eurovan, and this one.  I've loved the utility, camping, comfort, and comrodary of other owners.  Alas, it is time to move on as I no longer need the 6 cylinders nor a 7-passenger vehicle. My wife's 6 passenger Mazda 5 suits us now just fine.   Although, bringing the 12 Christmas tree home in the Euro with the rear door shut will be missed!  As you can see from the pictures, this is a very clean Euro.  I believe there was some minor paint touch-ups but no accidents nor rust; other than a couple scratches and road specs from stones.

I believe I'm pricing my Euro very competitively based on Kelly Blue Book ($9,300-$10,800), what I see other Euros selling for on ebay, and the overall condition.  I realize new buyer will need to put a little effort into the TLC items below so I expect my pricing respects that.

Please don't bid on my van unless you plan to buy it.  As you know, this takes a lot of time and energy.  The pictures and my description of the vehicle are accurate.  Winning the auction is not winning the right of first refusal.  Please come and see the van, drive it, call me, or ask for more specific pictures before the auction ends.  I realize this may be a major investment for someone so I'll respect the needs of the buyer to be fully satisfied.  I just ask that you be a responsible buyer and do your homework up front.

THE GOOD STUFF:

  • Mileage works out to less than 10,000/yr which is nice as these engines will last awhile if you take care of them.
  • Tires and brakes are in good condition; I would drive this van anywhere.
  • Heat and A/C work fine.
  • Cooling system was flushed Aug '12; last oil change done Nov '13.
  • Automatic tranny is in fine condition; unlike my '99 that used to slip!  Many folks say they were either good or bad and if you get beyond 60K or so, you're probably fine for awhile.
  • I have inspection/service records (not sure if complete) back to 2005 and the original owners manual.
  • Front wheel drive is excellent in the snow.
  • New battery June '13.
  • Body and interior condition is above average.
  • I installed tow package last spring but only pulled a small 14' boat 4 times for an average distance of 10 miles.
  • Middle bucket seats are in nice shape and are easily removed/installed for multiple configurations.
  • I made an indoor/outdoor carpet flooring for the winter when seats are removed or for moving stuff.

Things needing TLC:

  • The most annoying thing is the power locks started working inconsistently in August.  I still can't open the passenger door and I usually need the key fob button to open the side and rear doors.  Maybe something simple but I've spent no time trying to figure out nor bring to someone for repair.
  • The radiator auxilary fan needs replacing.  I unhooked it when a couple of the fins broke (they're plastic) back in Sept.  No long drives nor high temps since so general driving is fine.  I researched and after-market one is ~$150 + labor unless you do it yourself.
  • Front and middle carpets have 'normal' wear stains.  Rear carpet still have original plastic covering :-).
  • Rear wiper intermittent motor stays on for a couple days after using and then decides to stop and work properly.  I don't use it.
  • I get some instrument lights intermittenly coming on.  Most prevelant is check brakes but I know pads are good for awhile.  My mechanic says the sensor is too senstive.  Other one is ABS but it goes away??
  • I repaired a small exhaust leak a couple weeks ago which is fine but I don't have records for when exhaust was done last so assume that will be a future service item.

Pontiac Aztek enjoys rebirth thanks to Millennials

Fri, Sep 11 2015

Apparently, Millennials – those between 18 and 34 – aren't afraid to look different on the road, and they like performance, too. A new study by Edmunds is discovering some surprising vehicle choices by this group. Among them, the long-derided Pontiac Aztek is getting a new day in the sun with 25.5 percent its buyers coming from this generation in the first half of 2015. For comparison, Millennials represent an average of 16.8 percent of used car purchases. The Aztek is slowly shaking its reputation as a styling abomination, which seems tied to its appearance on Breaking Bad. The show premiered in 2008, and the Pontiac has been on this list for four of the past five years, according to Edmunds. It even led the pack in 2010. A recent Retro Review from MotorWeek also showed that the crossover wasn't always so hated. While it's still a shock to see the Aztek on any popularity list, the awkward-looking crossover only ranks sixth among Millennials. The vehicle with the biggest portion of buyers from the generation is the Dodge Magnum with 27.6 percent. According to Edmunds, the bluntly styled wagon is especially popular in Detroit and Chicago. The Chrysler Pacifica comes in a close second at 27.3 percent. When it comes to used cars, value and utility appear to trump just about anything else for many Millennial buyers," Edmunds analyst Jeremy Acevedo said in the report. Young buyers aren't afraid of sporty rides, either. The Subaru WRX has 26.4 percent Millennial buyers to rank third place on the list, and the Volkswagen R32 takes fifth at 25.7 percent. Just a few points lower in seventh place is the Nissan GT-R at 25.4 percent, and the final performance machine in 10th place is the Lexus IS-F with 24.7 percent. Related Video:

This month's deals on wheels: 3 cars with incentives, rebates

Fri, Apr 7 2017

On television, they come at you rapid-fire: truck deals, car deals, SUV deals. You don't have time to read the fine print, and many sound too good to be true. What follows are three deals that are both good and true. And check out our entire list of incentives and rebates. VOLKSWAGEN JETTA: With Dieselgate winding down and VW's all-new three-row SUV – the Atlas – winding up, Volkswagen is selling sedans with incentives. The Jetta remains VW's bestseller in the US. If you're looking for an immodest deal on modest transportation, you can do worse than a lease on the 2017 Jetta S. THE DETAILS: Purchase at 0.9% APR (no down payment required, available on new 2017 Jetta models financed by Volkswagen Credit, participating dealers only). At that rate, you could save $1,600 over the life of a loan. Offer ends May 1, but given the tepid market interest in sedans, incentives will probably continue through the balance of the model year. NISSAN TITAN CREW CAB: While some buyers will wait for Nissan's recently announced Titan King Cab, and commercial users will grab the regular cab and 8-foot bed, we'll recommend a lightly optioned 4X4 crew cab with standard V8 power, California-penned sheetmetal and a made-in-America footprint. Nissan's full-size pickup is finally a credible competitor in the pickup segment. THE DETAILS: With $3,500 cash back, on top of whatever deal you negotiate, Nissan is effectively reducing the window sticker of a Titan S crew cab by almost 10 percent. MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER: Some cars show up on buyers' radar, some don't. Some aren't anywhere near the radar room. Mitsubishi's Outlander is one of those. But that doesn't diminish its basic attractiveness, especially for young families looking for an affordable three-row SUV with responsive power and competitive features. Add one of the industry's longest warranties and a compelling deal, and you suddenly have reason to track down a Mitsubishi dealer. THE DETAILS: It couldn't be simpler – negotiate your best deal on a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, and then receive a $2,000 rebate; on a remaining 2016, it's $3,000. We'd select a fully-equipped GT 3.0S – AWC, which hooks Mitsubishi's V6 to a conventional automatic (vs. a CVT on lower-priced models) and all-wheel drive. That's a window sticker of about $34,000, and you can count on an aggressive posture by the dealer to get your business. Mitsubishi Nissan Volkswagen Car Buying Buying Guide Truck SUV Sedan
