Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
2001 Volkswagen Eurovan MV
Weekender in “Techno Blue Pearl,” with 102,000 miles, for sale by owner.
Get ready for summer camping and adventures with this unique combination of
camper van and daily driver! The Weekender model
includes the “Westfalia” conversion to the Eurovan MV (MultiVan), which adds
lots of great camping features. The highlights of the MV Weekender
include: “Poptop” roof with canvas tent siding and zippered windows that sleeps
two; Rear bench seat which folds down into a bed for two; two rear facing
chairs behind the front seats; left rear facing seat has a refrigerator
underneath and the right rear facing seat is easily removable; collapsible
table; two fluorescent cabin lights; and auxiliary battery under driver’s seat
(runs rear cabin lighting and ‘fridge). This
particular well maintained van has a 201 hp (factory spec) VR6 gasoline
engine, automatic transmission, and front wheel drive with traction
control. Vans in this particular configuration were only sold in America
for a few years in the early 2000’s, and are very difficult to find. This van is in “fair” to
“good” condition as Kelly Blue Book defines those terms. I have tried to
be as detailed as possible to assist buyers, but it is up to the buyer to make
any and all assessments as to vehicle condition. The van is sold as is, with no
warranties. It is located in Cambridge, MA (very close to Boston, MA). Mechanicals: Regular maintenance has
included synthetic oil and filter changes at regular intervals, generally about
5k. Two
transmission fluid changes, including inspection of pan and replacement of
filter and gasket. 90,000 mile service performed at VW specialist
shop including spark plugs, fuel filter, other fluids, chassis lubrication and
thorough inspection. Recent 4 corner brake job including discs and pads. Recent repairs include new
timing chains (and lots of new associated hardware while we were in there,
including chain tensioners and guides, belt tensioners, replacement of worn
gaskets and more), and new VW OEM ECU. Original
transmission shifts smoothly. Recent Nokian Entyre tires installed on OEM
wheels, about 5k miles on the Nokians with lots of life left, OEM fitment
including OEM recommended load rating. Set of four Michelin Graspics
studless snow tires (205 width for better traction in snow) with VW steelies
included in sale. Cruise control does not work Remote locks do not work
(although power locks operate as normal) Exterior Paint shows wear consistent
with 100,000 mile car. Overall it still shines, but defects include
significant flaking paint off the back bumper, rock chips on front bumper,
surface scratching and cosmetic flaws consistent with mileage. Roof has
hazing and scratches. Small dent (about 2 inches)
on right left corner near tail lamp. The van was jacked incorrectly
behind the front left wheel bending metal rail on underside and damaging paint. Wheels show minor curb rash
and scratches. Overall they are straight and true. Pop top is in excellent
condition, zippers work, screens are intact, there are a few pinches in the
fabric but no holes. Interior Cloth seats and carpets
shows wear consistent with 100,000 mile use.

Everybody's doing flying cars, so why aren't we soaring over traffic already?
Mon, Oct 1 2018"Where's my flying car?" has been the meme for impending technology that never materializes since before there were memes. And the trough of disillusionment for vehicles that can take to sky continues to nosedive, despite a nonstop fascination with flying cars and a recent rash of announcements about the technology, particularly from traditional automakers. Earlier this month, Toyota applied for an eye-popping patent for a flying car that has wheels with spring-loaded pop-out helicopter rotors. The patent filing says the wheels/rotors would be electrically powered, while in on-land mode the vehicle would have differential steering like tracked vehicles such as tanks and bulldozers. At an airshow in July, Aston Martin unveiled its Volante Vision Concept, an autonomous hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle it developed with Rolls-Royce. Aston says the Volante can fly at top speeds of around 200 mph and bills it as a luxury car for the skies. Audi used the Geneva Motor Show in March to unveil a flying car concept called the Pop.Up Next it developed with Airbus and Italdesign. If the Pop.Up Next, an electric and autonomous quadcopter/city car combo, gets stuck in traffic, an app can be used to summon an Airbus-developed drone to pick up the passenger compartment pod, leaving the chassis behind. Audi said that the Pop.Up Next is a "flexible on-demand concept that could open up mobility in the third dimension to people in cities." But Audi also acknowledged that at this point it has no plans to develop it. The cash-stoked, skies-the-limit Silicon Valley tech crowd is also bullish on flying cars. The startup Kitty Hawk that's backed by Google co-founder Larry Page announced in June that it's taking pre-orders for its single-seat electric Flyer that's powered by 10 propellers and is capable of vertical takeoffs and landings. The current version can only fly up to 20 mph and 10 feet in the air and has a flight time of just 12 to 20 minutes on a full charge. The Flyer is considered a recreational vehicle, so doesn't require a pilot's license. Uber says it plans to launch its more ambitious Elevate program and UberAIR service in 2023. "Uber customers will be able to push a button and get a flight on-demand with uberAIR in Dallas, Los Angeles and a third international market," Uber Elevate promises on its website.
European car sales up 8% in February
Sat, 22 Mar 2014Three weeks ago an analyst increased projections for European car sales this year, expecting them to climb three percent compared to last year instead of 2.7 percent. That number is a postive sign after years of hard times but it turns out February was especially good, overall European sales climbing eight percent on a wave of southern European recovery and discounts - and this comes after five months of gains including January's 7.2-percent jump over the year before.
The only country of Europe's five largest markets to post a decline was France, just as it did in January, Germany, the UK and Italy posting solid double-digit numbers, Spain rocking the charts with an 18-percent increase because of a government program to encourage trade-ins.
The only brand to miss the wave was Volkswagen, dropping 0.8 percent as it watched the double-digit growth at sister brands Audi, Seat and Skoda lift the Volkswagen Group sales up by seven-percent. Peugeot overcame flat sales at Citroën to improve the group by 3.5 percent, BMW and the Mercedes-Benz/Smart combo rose by four percent, the Fiat group jumped 5.8 percent, Ford was up 11 percent, the Renault Group 11.5 percent, General Motors 12 percent and the Toyota clan by 14 percent.
Volkswagen Golf R Variant ready to haul ass, stuff
Thu, Nov 20 2014Volkswagen seems to be playing a cruel trick on the American automotive public at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It's displaying its sexy Golf R Variant with no clear intention of actually selling the model here. The hot wagon launches in Europe in the spring, but the automaker makes absolutely no mention of the model's prospects in the US. Hopefully, its appearance in LA at least indicates VW is considering bringing it stateside. The great thing about this wagon is that it has everything that the regular Golf R offers, but there's even more room to carry stuff. The same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Performance is very close, too, with the Variant R taking 5.1 seconds to get to 62 miles per hour versus the 4.9 seconds the standard R needs to read 60 mph. The two of them also have the same tech goodies like ESC Sport stability control and multiple damping modes. The real advantage to opting for the estate is its ability to carry up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo in the back. This hot rod wagon would seem to be perfect for the family that needs to haul some extra junk in the trunk, but doesn't want to sacrifice performance. Whether the Variant R makes it to the US remains a mystery, though. Scroll down to read the specs and feel a twinge of jealousy.
