Due to a recent home purchase, we are selling our well loved 1997 Volkswagen EuroVan Winnebago Full Camper.  She runs beautifully and has been serviced and maintained by the best VW mechanic around.   The camper has 194k miles, but does not show its age at all.  Everything is in good working order, and it is very comfortable and easy to drive.  It gets 20+ mpg and fits in a regular parking space.   If you want the classic styling and German engineering of a VW Camper, along with the reliability of a modern car, this EuroVan is for you. Above the normal camping gear, we have added a few touches to make it the most comfortable road-trip machine around.

A few of those extra touches:

-Yakima roof rack system made exclusively for EuroVan Campers (GoWesty.com)
-Yakima extra wide bars (Allows 6 surfboards and two kayaks at the same time!)
-2 sets of WRV surfboard racks
-In Dash DVD/CD player with Aux input and remote (BOSS BV7948b)
-Drop down DVD monitor
-Backup camera (very helpful when curtains are shut)
-Engine battery/coach battery toggle (allows you to run radio/dvd system without draining engine battery)
-windows tinted to legal level
-2" receiver hitch w/ 2" ball
-dash organizer
-bra for hood (see picture at
-center console organizer (generic for any car, but adds needed cup holders)
-Custom made sheepskin seat covers keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter (the seats under the covers are in great shape)
-two mini-maglites mounted to help with camping.  One at rear hatch, one at sliding door
-Fitz rear cabin (allows lots of airflow, and is a good changing room.  See picture)
-4x6 rugs cut to fit the front and rear cabins (adds color and comfort, can be very easily removed)
-snow chains for tires
-three extra hubcaps
-full size spare

Also included is all standard camping gear:
-two-burner stove
-three-way fridge (propane, AC, DC)  works great in all settings. Propane system serviced 4/13
-propane furnace (works great)
-Sink w/ power water pump
-Spray off hose and wash off system in back
-two tables (w/cover)
-lots of storage
-battery/fresh water/dirty water monitor
-coach battery for camping equipment (deep cycle, new in 2011)
-all lights works well
-fuse box works well
-original power cord
-original dirty water hose (never used)
-middle seat (rare)
-all six headrests
-full tank propane
-Mattress for downstairs bed (steam cleaned 10/12)
-upper mattress (never used since steam cleaning 10/12)
-power windows
-power locks
-cold A/C
-All manuals and service guides
-tires with less than 2000 miles

This is a great van with lots of road trips ahead for the new owner.  Since she has been well used and has 193k, some things are not perfect:

-ABS plastic interior has some discoloration in spots (notice picture near rear hatch...I left the tailgate open during a sudden shower)
-skylight leaks a little in heavy rain (I may have fixed this, but it hasnt rained since I tightened it)
-pop-top tent has stains, but no rips or tears.

Please give me a call if you are serious and would like to test drive it.   8zero4-97one-55nine8.

Thank you,

Charley

VW delivers first XL1 in Germany

Mon, Jun 9 2014

Volkswagen has delivered the first XL1 diesel plug-in hybrid to a customer from Berlin, Germany. Dr. Christian Malorny received his Oryx White XL1 with black and grey interior from Volkswagen Germany's director of sales and marketing for passenger cars, Thomas Zahn, at the company's Transparent Factory in Dresden. The super-efficient XL1, which first debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, is powered by a 0.8-liter, two-cylinder TDI engine and electric motor, with electricity supplied by a 5.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission. With a curb weight of 1,753 pounds and a drag coefficient of just 0.189, the XL1 is rated at 261 miles per gallon on the lenient European cycle. It is capable of traveling solely on electric power for up to 31 miles. "The XL1 has inspired me from the beginning and I am very pleased to now be driving my own," said Malorny, (translated). "With its visionary design and high-tech appearance, Volkswagen has dared something new and innovative." The futuristic XL1 seats two passengers, and can carry 4.2 cubic feet of cargo. It features a carbon fiber reinforced plastic body, and a low center of gravity. It is diminutive of stature, as you can see in the photo, measuring 153.1 inches long, 65.6 inches wide, and just 45.4 inches tall. It is being billed as the world's most efficient production car, but it's unlikely Dr. Malorny will be making his money back on fuel savings any time soon; despite the first sale and the vehicles appearing on the German VW site, Volkswagen has not officially announced the price tag for the XL1. In the past, we've heard it will cost approximately $145,000. Only 250 are being produced. Check out our drive review of the Volkswagen XL1 here or read on for more information in the Google-translated press release, below. The mood at this year’s Paris Motor Show: Quiet

Tue, Oct 2 2018

The Paris Motor Show, held every other year in the early fall, typically kicks off the annual cavalcade of automotive conclaves, one that traverses the globe between autumn and spring, introducing projective, conceptual and production-ready vehicle models to the international automotive press, automotive aficionados and a public hungry for news of our increasingly futuristic mobility enterprise. But this year, at the press preview days for the show, the grounds of the Porte de Versailles convention center felt a bit more sparsely populated than usual. This was not simply a subjective sensation, or one influenced by the center's atypically dispersed assemblage of seven discrete buildings, which tends to spread out the cars and the crowds. There were not only fewer new vehicles being premiered in Paris this year, there were fewer manufacturers there to display them. Major mainstream European OEM stalwarts such as Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Nissan and Volkswagen chose to sit out Paris this year, as did boutique manufacturers like Bentley, Aston Martin and Lamborghini. This is not simply based in some antipathy on the part of the German, British and Italian manufacturers toward the French market — though for a variety of historical and societal reasons that market may be more dominated by vehicles produced domestically than others. Rather, it is part of a larger trend in the industry. Last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would not be participating in the flagship North American International Auto Show in 2019 — and that it might not return. Other brands including Jaguar/Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Mazda and nearly every exotic carmaker have also departed the Detroit show. Some of these brands will still appear in the city in which the show is taking place, and host an event offsite, to capitalize on the presence of a large number of reporters in attendance. And even brands that do have a presence at the show have shifted their vehicle introductions to the days before the official press opening in an attempt to stand out from the crowd. In many ways, this makes sense. With an expanding number of automakers, with diversification and niche-ification of models and with wholesale shifts that necessitate the introduction of EV or autonomous sub-brands, there is a growing sense that, with everyone shouting at the same time, no one can be heard.

Everybody's doing flying cars, so why aren't we soaring over traffic already?

Mon, Oct 1 2018

"Where's my flying car?" has been the meme for impending technology that never materializes since before there were memes. And the trough of disillusionment for vehicles that can take to sky continues to nosedive, despite a nonstop fascination with flying cars and a recent rash of announcements about the technology, particularly from traditional automakers. Earlier this month, Toyota applied for an eye-popping patent for a flying car that has wheels with spring-loaded pop-out helicopter rotors. The patent filing says the wheels/rotors would be electrically powered, while in on-land mode the vehicle would have differential steering like tracked vehicles such as tanks and bulldozers. At an airshow in July, Aston Martin unveiled its Volante Vision Concept, an autonomous hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle it developed with Rolls-Royce. Aston says the Volante can fly at top speeds of around 200 mph and bills it as a luxury car for the skies. Audi used the Geneva Motor Show in March to unveil a flying car concept called the Pop.Up Next it developed with Airbus and Italdesign. If the Pop.Up Next, an electric and autonomous quadcopter/city car combo, gets stuck in traffic, an app can be used to summon an Airbus-developed drone to pick up the passenger compartment pod, leaving the chassis behind. Audi said that the Pop.Up Next is a "flexible on-demand concept that could open up mobility in the third dimension to people in cities." But Audi also acknowledged that at this point it has no plans to develop it. The cash-stoked, skies-the-limit Silicon Valley tech crowd is also bullish on flying cars. The startup Kitty Hawk that's backed by Google co-founder Larry Page announced in June that it's taking pre-orders for its single-seat electric Flyer that's powered by 10 propellers and is capable of vertical takeoffs and landings. The current version can only fly up to 20 mph and 10 feet in the air and has a flight time of just 12 to 20 minutes on a full charge. The Flyer is considered a recreational vehicle, so doesn't require a pilot's license. Uber says it plans to launch its more ambitious Elevate program and UberAIR service in 2023. "Uber customers will be able to push a button and get a flight on-demand with uberAIR in Dallas, Los Angeles and a third international market," Uber Elevate promises on its website.
