Up for auction is my 1985 VW Westfalia full camper. This is a re-listing.

This van is a clean running, good looking vehicle. It is almost a rust free vehicle. The undercarriage shows no rust damage and the exterior is exceptional for its age. As far as I know, it is the original paint job. The interior is clean and has all the original parts. Just look at the pictures. I had 2 different garages look at the vehicle and they were both impressed with the van.

This van has a rebuilt 2L GoWesty engine with less than 6000 miles on it($6000) and recently tuned. It has a recently installed Bilstein shocks in the rear.

There were a number of people that asked to see the van in person when I initially listed it but the van was at the garage so I stopped the auction to give those who wanted to see it a chance to look at it.

I wanted the person who wins the auction to be happy so I decided to do addition work on it. This is what was done to the van in the last few weeks:

-Cooling system diagnosed- thermo switch replaced for cooling fan, complete cooling system flushed, pressure tested for leaks, inspected belts, hoses and test radiator cap.
-Checked starter circuit, replaced starter assembly
-Brand new NAPA battery installed
-Pop top roof was removed and cleaned
-New GoWesty design tent was installed
-Set of new Yokohama tires installed (P215/65R15) to existing

If you want a better Vanagon, go check out the ones in GoWesty.com. You'll suffer from "sticker shock." My van is not the same as GoWesty's but it's in pretty good condition and it's one of the best I've seen in the east coast.

I bought extra parts that will be included in the auction: oil filters, curtain hooks, fuses, stickers, repair manual, and some other misc. items. I put full rubber floor mats to protect the floor.

This van is sold "as is' and no warranty. This vehicle is 29 years old and I took care of it the last 3 years(replaced broken or missing pieces). It is not perfect and you should not expect it to be. Personal inspection of the vehicle is encouraged. Bring your mechanic!

Serious bidders only! Good luck bidding.

Please do not email about reserve price. Keep bidding and you'll know when it meets the reserve price.

One of the picture has the wrong tire size. It's correct in the main description. P215/65/R15.

VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines

Sun, 16 Feb 2014

The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market - some markets, anyway - for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with revised styling and a new engine lineup.
Set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Scirocco benefits from updated styling front and rear, high-tech exterior lighting, a revised cabin space with some throwback retro touches, some new technologies and, of course, an array of fresh wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
The updated Scirocco will be offered with a wide array of engines right from the get-go, including four gasoline options and two diesels, spanning from 125 horsepower all the way up to the 280-hp Scirocco R. The 2014 model hits European showrooms in August, but unfortunately isn't any more likely to make the transatlantic voyage Stateside than the version it replaces. Still interested? There's plenty to see in the high-res image gallery above and details in the press release below.

YouTube's Super Bowl commercial buzz list dominated by automakers [w/videos]

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

After Sunday's big game, YouTube will be the place to watch every commercial that you missed when you left your seat for an emergency guac refill or, as we say in Cleveland, took the Browns to the Super Bowl. That makes YouTube the nation's water cooler on Monday, and it's got some preliminary stats to share in the lead up to kickoff.
As you know, Super Bowl advertisers, particularly automakers, like to endlessly tease their big budget commercials in the weeks before the game, many times revealing them outright days in advance. Because of this, YouTube can tell us which commercials have been viewed the most so far, and their top five list is all automakers.
Kaley Cuoco appears to have been a good investment for Toyota, as her ad for the RAV4 has garnered the most YouTube views - six million and counting - among Super Bowl commercials so far. Second place goes to Mercedes-Benz, though not its actual Super Bowl commercial, but rather the teaser for it. You know, the one with Kate Upton and the car washing, which is up to 5.6 million views. Third place is Audi's Prom commercial (3.3M views), fourth goes to Volkswagen's slightly controversial Get In, Get Happy ad (3.3M views), and the fifth and final spot is bookended by the teaser video for Kaley Cuoco's commercial (3.2M views). You can watch all five in order below.

When Android Automotive goes in the dash, Google wins — and automakers lose data

Tue, May 22 2018

You've gotta hand it to Google for the way the Silicon Valley tech giant has made indelible inroads into the car on multiple fronts. The most obvious is with its pioneering self-driving car technology that's caused car companies to get their act together on autonomous vehicles — and also collaborate with Google. Google has more directly extended its influence and data-mining capabilities into the car with its Android Auto smartphone-projection platform that most major automakers have adopted along with Apple's CarPlay. And now it's preparing to dig even deeper into dashboards by deploying its open-source operating system, Android Automotive, beginning with Audi and Volvo. Volvo recently announced that its next-generation Sensus infotainment system will run Android Automotive as an OS and include Google's Play Store for cloud-based content, Maps for navigation and Google Assistant for voice recognition, which can even command a car's climate control. By embedding Google in the dash, Volvo says owners will get an improved connected experience. "Bringing Google services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services," Volvo senior vice president of R&D Henrik Green said in a statement. "Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps that make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable." Having Android Automotive onboard could benefit drivers — and provide a big win for Google, since it opens a deep and lucrative new data-mining vein for the company. But it's a wave of a white flag for car companies when it comes to delivering their own cloud-based content and services. It also represents a massive data giveaway and, for Audi, a reversal of earlier reservations about letting Google get too much access to car data. Not long after Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were introduced in 2014 and most automakers eagerly embraced the technologies, several German automakers second-guessed their decision when they realized what was at stake: data. At a conference in Berlin in 2015, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said car owners "want to be in control of their data, and not subject to monitoring." A few months earlier, Stadler stated that "the data that we collect is our data and not Google's.
