Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro Westfalia Weekender on 2040-cars
South Point, Ohio, United States
I have decided to sale my Syncro Westfalia Weekender. This was/is my daily driver but I have recently purchased a new vehicle so I am selling this one now. I've owned it for a few years after acquiring it as a unfinished project from a friend of mine. This was at one time a full westy, it was converted to a weekender and features a full width rear seat that makes a huge bed, a fold up table and one rear facing jump seat. This set up allows for a lot of extra space usually wasted on cabinets etc. I came to learn this most suited my needs as a camper but also as something I could still haul with if I needed to. Its great because you can fit a full sheet of plywood in it! The following work has been done since Ive owned the van. Complete brake rebuild, all new lines, hardware, master cylinder etc. Front brakes have recently been upgraded to Audi big brakes with dual piston calipers and vented rotors. All new fuel lines, and fuel tank straps. New clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. New clutch slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder. Has both upper and lower South African front grills, headlight relay upgrade for brighter lights. LED under dash lights, CD player. 16 inch Mercedes CLK Wheels with Hankook ATM tires with approx. 20k miles on them tires still have lots of tread left on them. The front seats are the stock units but seat heaters have been added and are great on cold winter days. The interior is in over all good condition no rips or tears in the seats but they do show some wear. Front floors are Volkswagen hard to find factory rubber floors, the rear floor is marine grade vinyl flooring. The tent is an original unit that has a couple patches but still is in pretty good shape and will last a while before it would really need to be replaced. The motor is an 2.1 that is carbureted the FI was removed when I got the van. The head gaskets, water pump and various seals were replaced before it was installed 2 years ago. Its never left me sitting however I've only driven it locally and it has not been on any long journeys since Ive been driving it. There is no AC in the van at all. Transmission is a stock unit it has a granny gear and a locking rear differential. The locking diff works! The drive shaft was pulled out of the van this past February as it developed a vibration which seems to be a common problem. It will be included with the van, but be aware this is a issue that will need to be addressed if you wish to reinstall it. I have been driving the van since then daily without issue. It will need new rear emergency brake cables and it needs 1 outer CV that I just discovered. Body is in decent condition it has various scratches and dings etc, it has some seam rust showing which you will be able to see in the pictures. Skylight is covered with plexi and does not currently open. If you have other questions lets me know. I'm sure I've missed some details, I will add to the description if I think of anything. Van is sold as is where is with no warranties or guarantees. |

Porsche-Piech buy 10% stake in VW's holding company
Tue, 18 Jun 2013In August, 2009, as the scuttled merger of Porsche and Volkswagen had gone bad and Porsche was backed up against the ropes, Porsche Automobil Holding SE (PAHSE) relinquished a ten-percent stake in itself to Qatar Holdings as well as options it held on 17 percent of VW shares. The sale meant that, for the first time since the founding of the company 61 years before, an entity outside the Porsche and Piech families had a say in the running of PAHSE.
Buying that ten-percent stake back returns full ownership to the two families, the holding company's sole possession being ownership of 50.7 percent of VW's common shares. The price paid wasn't disclosed, but at market rates the purchase would be worth close to $1.25 billion. Qatar intends to hold onto the 17-percent stake it has in Volkswagen.
TRANSLOGIC 150: Volkswagen XL1
Mon, Feb 24 2014How do you build the world's most fuel-efficient production car? Start with the world's most aerodynamic design. The Volkswagen XL1 is capable of 261 miles per gallon thanks to its sleek shape and ultra efficient plug-in diesel hybrid powertrain. The downside is that only 250 will be made and none will be sold stateside. That didn't stop us from taking our turn behind the wheel of this truly revolutionary ride.
VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs
Sat, 01 Mar 2014Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun.
For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany.
In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe."
