VW Bus 15 window deluxe

Great candidate to convert to 23!

Project. Comparably priced buses are rustier with no parts! Check this out.

Hard work just started. It has been media blasted inside and out. It reveals quite a bit of typical rust and then some not so typical rust.
The difficult task of removing the rotten metal has been carried out.  Not all of it, but a lot of it.
There are pin holes in the rain gutters and more rust that may not be visible in the auction.  Just as for more pics of you are unsure of the scope of this project.

We have most of the replacement metal on hand already. The sheet metal comes from most of the usual vendors. Price it out and see that a good chunk of change and time have been spent already.

Far form being done.  You still have challenges.
Detailed images available, but most of it is visible in the link to the images.

All ID tags present.

Wheels and old tires are present.

Engine is a 1600 good core. Transmission is a used 1968 long axle. Front beam is still stock.

Brand new pop out side windows still in box with hardware.

deluxe trim set  is original, but some pieces may need straightening and or replacement.

boxes of trim and hardware unbolted from the body prior to media blast.

jail bars. hooks, screws, nuts and bolts.

(Rare) rear seat with luggage rail but the mount or base tubing is rusty and will need sections welded in.

Lots of boxes of parts. Most parts that were unbolted from the bus are in boxes, some discarded in favor or replacement.

We can all be reasonable and assume that the bus was rusty, so most of the parts were just OK or in need of rechrome and replacement anyways.

The steering column, latches, T handles, and small assorted screws, nuts, bolts and fasteners are all in little bags.

Things get lost along the way, so please don't expect a perfect and complete bus.

On rolling cart, so we can ship it anywhere.

Passenger replacement cab seat bottom and fender area has good metal to be harvested for the repair. Pinholes are clearly visible.

The nose had been started.  You can see a factory nose skin just overlayed over the original area. Below the new metal installation had begun.

Most of the doors and loose parts have been removed and put inside the vehicle.  They will be padded with a layer of cardboard and small items will be in boxes and bags.
We can easily ship this anywhere as the wheels will be bolted on this trolly or cart and it can go on a normal auto transport.

Headlights are fairly complete, tail lights have no lenses, turn signal stalk and parts are apart and missing the housing, no shocks, no emergency brake cables, no glass. no rubber.

It does come with brand new reproduction popout window frames and hardware for the sides.   Corner glass is missing and if it is there, it was broken- yours if you win the bid.

Study the images, as a lot of it has been photographed.  Ask the right questions to avoid  buyers remorse or disappointment.

Please send any one over for a scheduled pre purchase inspection.

Recharge Wrap-up: Jaguar Land Rover talks EVs, Batteries should be modular

Wed, Sep 3 2014

A new study out of Germany suggests adopting a modular approach to battery offerings in plug-in hybrid and extended range electric vehicles. Automakers could offer the same car with different battery sizes (and different costs, accordingly) to drivers depending on their driving ranges. This would optimize the total cost of ownership for various drivers better than the current approach. Developing a modular battery design and offering appropriate batteries for different customers "is the key for electric powertrains to meet customer expectations and become cost competitive against conventional technologies," according to the report from the Institute of Vehicle Concepts, German Aerospace Center. Learn more at Green Car Congress. Jaguar and Land Rover are looking to offer more electric driving from their vehicles. Wolfgang Ziebart, head of product development for Jaguar Land Rover, said in an interview that its hybrid system is being tweaked for more electric power and "downsized" combustion. He also said the likely target market for EVs would be second and third vehicles, rather than primary vehicles for urban driving. Within that market, Europeans look for something smaller, while American drivers lean toward larger luxury vehicles for their second car. Ziebart uses the Tesla Model S as an example of American tastes, and compares its size to that of the Jaguar XJ. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Thailand will likely approve a Volkswagen factory as early as next week. A German newspaper suggests that Thailand's Board of Investment is set to greenlight the plant, which is planned for a site near the Port of Bangkok. Thailand is a relatively large and growing auto manufacturing country, which seeks to be a major producer of eco-friendly vehicles. The country's "Eco2" program would provide incentives to Volkswagen if it builds clean cars and meets certain production targets. Read more at Reuters. Formula E has chosen Sky Deutschland for broadcasting rights in the German market. The deal includes television rights, as well as online broadcasting. Sky Deutschland has 3.8 million subscribers in Germany and Austria. Showing the races on Germany's largest pay television provider should help generate interest for the series, particularly the Berlin ePrix - the inaugural season's penultimate race - scheduled for May 30, 2015. When Android Automotive goes in the dash, Google wins — and automakers lose data

Tue, May 22 2018

You've gotta hand it to Google for the way the Silicon Valley tech giant has made indelible inroads into the car on multiple fronts. The most obvious is with its pioneering self-driving car technology that's caused car companies to get their act together on autonomous vehicles — and also collaborate with Google. Google has more directly extended its influence and data-mining capabilities into the car with its Android Auto smartphone-projection platform that most major automakers have adopted along with Apple's CarPlay. And now it's preparing to dig even deeper into dashboards by deploying its open-source operating system, Android Automotive, beginning with Audi and Volvo. Volvo recently announced that its next-generation Sensus infotainment system will run Android Automotive as an OS and include Google's Play Store for cloud-based content, Maps for navigation and Google Assistant for voice recognition, which can even command a car's climate control. By embedding Google in the dash, Volvo says owners will get an improved connected experience. "Bringing Google services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services," Volvo senior vice president of R&D Henrik Green said in a statement. "Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps that make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable." Having Android Automotive onboard could benefit drivers — and provide a big win for Google, since it opens a deep and lucrative new data-mining vein for the company. But it's a wave of a white flag for car companies when it comes to delivering their own cloud-based content and services. It also represents a massive data giveaway and, for Audi, a reversal of earlier reservations about letting Google get too much access to car data. Not long after Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were introduced in 2014 and most automakers eagerly embraced the technologies, several German automakers second-guessed their decision when they realized what was at stake: data. At a conference in Berlin in 2015, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said car owners "want to be in control of their data, and not subject to monitoring." A few months earlier, Stadler stated that "the data that we collect is our data and not Google's.

China sticking to its guns on EVs for the future

Mon, Apr 27 2015

Automakers are obviously free to develop whatever next-gen, zero-emissions tech that they want. However, if a company wants to get on the good side of the Chinese government, that strategy better include some plug-in vehicles. The authorities there are lending major support to plug-ins at the moment, and its forcing the auto industry to play along. According to Bloomberg, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and BMW are all launching dedicated EV brands with their joint venture partners, and as many as 40 electric models could hit the Chinese market this year alone. However, analysts don't think the vehicles are going to sell well. Instead, the launches are essentially a way for companies to play nice with the government and help get the approval to build factories in the country. Take Toyota as an example. The company is pushing the future of hydrogen hard with promotional films for the Mirai and engineers talking down fast-charging EVs. Still, the Japanese automaker is getting ready to launch two EV brands in China with its joint venture partners, according to Bloomberg. China's push for alternative fuels has been happening for a while, but it really kicked into high gear last year. The government has set a goal to improve fleet-wide economy by 40 percent by the end of the decade in order to spend less importing oil and for the population's health. The plan has shown some success so far with hybrid and EV sales growing early in 2015.
