This is a 1990 Vanagon.  Carat euro sport package model.   Includes the rare Tornado red paint,  Factory 14" alloy rims, Weekender style interior with the drop leaf table and 2 removable rear facing jump seats.  The Carat model came stock with a lowered Euro sport look with aprox 2" shorter springs than the other vanagon models.  Also stock was the electric windows and mirrors, the fiberglass cladding and bumpers and the Tornado red paint and sport rims.

About the condition:  The van starts and runs, but is a bit rough.   The compression test showed that leak down was within speck.   There is a new head installed on the right side.   The motor should be professionally inspected and is in need of tuning.  Automatic trans shifts fine.  Body is in overall nice shape.  Needs a rear bumper for sure and the cladding needs to be cleaned up and a clip or 2 is missing.   Rust is not visible except for a minor seam.   The interior is in fair shape and needs to be cleaned but is in tact.   Seats are both missing one arm rest each.   Dash is in perfect condition.   Ac is not working and neither are the electric windows or mirrors, may be a fuse.

This is good candidate for an engine swap and or restoration.    I had intended to do a full restoration but my Mechanic/body shop mans building burned down last week so I don't have the facility to do the work now, also im moving out of the country in 2 months.

Please, if you plan on bidding plan on paying via pay pal or wire funds within 48 hrs.  I can assist if you send a u-ship transport company to pick up.  Plans  needs to be started with in 48 hrs. of auction close.  I have had people default on other deals and it's a waste of everyones time.  You will be reported if you flake out.  I will give wire or pay-pal address instruction via email after the auction.   Good luck.

Tesla tires turning on Stretchla Vanagon EV conversion project

Tue, Jan 7 2014

It is one thing to say you are going to Frankenstein a Tesla Model S with a pair of Siamese-twinned Volkswagen Vanagons and quite another to actually start taking your newly-acquired, smashed-up electric sedan apart in an effort to bring it back to life. Otmar Ebenhoech is doing just that, and having no small successes along the way. The Stretchla project, as it is being called, has officially started and our protagonist has put together another bit of video to document his progress and let us know about some of the different challenges he's encountered and conquered. While our original post about this endeavor featured video of the stretched Vanagon's drivetrain removal, this latest installment focuses on the Model S. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition and has been tackling some of the basic problems one might expect to encounter: lots of error messages and an electrically disconnected battery pack. Without the aid of a manual or technical diagrams, he's removed the battery pack and discovered why it wasn't sending power to the car. Scroll below to watch the ten-minute presentation and celebrate some initial victories. You can also check out the official Stretchla blog for more photos and updates, including the most recent one that discusses how he talked himself into paying (*spoiler alert) $42,000 for a wrecked, non-functional electric car, along with more recent struggles with the steering rack. Hit us up in the comments to let us know what kind of trouble you would get into with a Model S drivetrain of your own. This content is hosted by a third party. Volkswagen Golf R Variant ready to haul ass, stuff

Thu, Nov 20 2014

Volkswagen seems to be playing a cruel trick on the American automotive public at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It's displaying its sexy Golf R Variant with no clear intention of actually selling the model here. The hot wagon launches in Europe in the spring, but the automaker makes absolutely no mention of the model's prospects in the US. Hopefully, its appearance in LA at least indicates VW is considering bringing it stateside. The great thing about this wagon is that it has everything that the regular Golf R offers, but there's even more room to carry stuff. The same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Performance is very close, too, with the Variant R taking 5.1 seconds to get to 62 miles per hour versus the 4.9 seconds the standard R needs to read 60 mph. The two of them also have the same tech goodies like ESC Sport stability control and multiple damping modes. The real advantage to opting for the estate is its ability to carry up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo in the back. This hot rod wagon would seem to be perfect for the family that needs to haul some extra junk in the trunk, but doesn't want to sacrifice performance. Whether the Variant R makes it to the US remains a mystery, though. Scroll down to read the specs and feel a twinge of jealousy.

Anti-union group files lawsuit against VW and UAW

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

The fight for unionization at Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN, factory isn't letting up. Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board decided to allow anti-United Auto Workers employees at the plant the right to defend voting down the measure. Now, a group called the National Right to Work Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of five workers against VW and the UAW for allegedly working together to organize.
The group says in a release that it wants "to block further collusion between the company and the United Auto Workers." It alleges that VW forced workers to attend "mandatory pro-union meetings" and prevented managers from opposing. In a rebuttal on its website, the UAW called the claims "baseless" and said its actions were entirely legal.
One possible problem faces the carmaker in regards to the lawsuit. According to the Detroit Free Press, a recent US Court of Appeals ruling found that neutrality agreements like the one the business had with the UAW could be illegal if the company provided "things of value" to the union. The newspaper also claims that VW held a mandatory employee meeting concerning the election, but workers were free to leave during the UAW's presentation.
