1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Wolfsburg Edition on 2040-cars
Long Beach, California, United States
1987 VW Vanagon Wolfsburg edition Manual transmission Approximately 150,000 miles Clean title. Registered until April 2015. Please read online about the Wolfsburg edition as it has many options that the more basic models don’t have- including most noticeably a folding table, rear facing jump seats, power front windows and power mirrors. The bed folds out in the back and will sleep three adults – it’s wider than the Westfalia’s I’m told since the Westy’s have the side portion with the sink, stove, storage etc taking up some width. I just bought it recently – several months ago. I had planned to get it in great shape but school loans and other financial challenges have led me to sell it. It runs excellent and the transmission shifts great. I bought it from a very nice older guy in Costa Mesa who owns a shop fixing older German cars. Things I’ve bought already: Bluetooth stereo head unit - $125 from Crutchfield – installed and works great – I use my iphone wirelessly with it. Front & Rear bumpers and kit - $270 from GoWesty – my friend who’s a mechanic swapped the old ones out as they were in bad shape. Brand New tires from Lucky Tires - $360 – these are the ones with the very strong side walls that are supposed to be used for vanagons. Four speakers – two installed in rear, two for doors (not installed yet/will include in sell). Things it needs to be in great shape: The left front power window is not working – needs to be fixed. The rear lights including brake light/s are not working – I didn’t realize this until recently as I rarely drove it at night. The turn signals in the front and rear DO work. The headlights work. The air conditioning and heat iare not currently working - my friend who’s a mechanic said it may just need a charge but he didn’t have time to check for sure. The knobs and levers for the AC and heat are not installed - needs new ones- see photo. Body work and paint job. There are some small rust spots – please see pictures. And there are some dents – most are minor and not very big – except the front left of the van – see pics for all of them. The paint is in bad shape and needs to be completely done over. My friend estimated that the body work and paint will likely cost $1500. There may be other minor things in the interior that need replacing or fixing. Please look at all the photos to see the condition inside and out. The interior lights work - see photos - the one behind the sliding door comes on when open. The longer horizontal one on the opposite side above the table works when turned on. I’m not a mechanic or expert on vanagons but email me with any questions and I’ll do my best to answer. This is a solid running Wolfsburg that can be driven as-is and can be amazing if you take care of the body and paint. My reserve is very low. If you're not local, you pay any shipping fees. I am out of town for the July 4th weekend and cannot show it to locals then. |

Get ready to Camino-ize your fourth-generation VW Jetta with this kit
Tue, 05 Aug 2014Inexpensive, small pickup trucks used to be everywhere in the US, whether they were from Japanese brands like Datsun or Toyota, the truly weird Subaru Brat or even from Europe with the Volkswagen Caddy based on the Golf. These days that market has completely disappeared, but if you're willing to pick up some tools to build your own, there's a company out there bringing the Caddy back as a kit for the Jetta.
Mark Smith knows a thing about building a vehicle at home. He has over two decades in the DIY-car business as a co-founder of Local Motors and the company that became Factory Five Racing. His latest venture is Smyth Performance and already offers a mid-engine, VW-based kit called the G3F. His new product, though, started as a fluke. "I just wanted a shop truck," said Smith to Autoblog. He already had a Ford F-450 but found that he was driving around with the bed empty most of the time. The result was a pickup truck based on the fourth-generation Jetta that he dubbed the Ute.
The kit retails for $3,500 and ships in three, big boxes, and it's designed to be built and painted in a weekend. Buyers get fiberglass exterior panels, a fiberglass rear window surround, sliding rear window, an aluminum reinforced bed with a tubular steel subframe, taillights, a fully functional steel tailgate, and other parts. In the end, you get a vehicle with a six-foot bed and a payload of around 700-750 pounds. The Ute maintains all of the factory suspension, fuel tank and emissions equipment and requires just a few cuts in the body to complete. "We did a modern Caddy," admits Smith.
2015 VW Golf R caught getting a flogging on 'Ring
Wed, 22 May 2013The upcoming version of the Volkswagen Golf R is nearly ready for prime time, if this video of the car flying around the Nürburgring is any indication. The all-wheel-drive R seems to make quick, neat work of the corners we see here, and sounds pretty devilish in the process.
Expectations are that the new Golf R will run a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (what else?), tuned to produce even more than the current car's 256 horsepower. (Some sources have indicated outputs as high as 286 horsepower, with 280 pound-feet of torque. It's still not clear if Volkswagen will bring the six-speed dual-clutch transmission to the US-spec Golf R in this next go-round or if we'll stick to having only... eh... the stick.
In either case - watching the video below will only whet your appetite for the new, highest performing member of the Golf family.
Recharge Wrap-up: VW CEO mulls battery factory, voters approve $201B in transportation funding
Mon, Nov 21 2016Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Muller says that it would "make sense" for the automaker to begin producing its own batteries. As the company moves toward electrification, Muller says it would be a smart move to build a battery factory. "If more than a quarter of our cars are to be electronic vehicles in the foreseeable future then we are going to need approximately 3 million batteries a year," he says. Volkswagen has agreed to cut 30,000 jobs in its restructuring, while committing to creating 9,000 jobs in Germany through battery manufacturing and mobility services. Earlier this month, voters in 22 states approved ballot measures adding up to $201 billion in funding for transportation projects, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. California passed 15 transportation measures, including one in Los Angeles worth $120 billion for roads, bridges, and transit. The state of Washington secured $54 billion for light rail and buses. Atlanta approved about $4 billion for road and transit projects. Illinois and New Jersey passed measures to prevent the diversion of transportation user fee revenue to other industries. A Delaware federal judge ordered the DOE to give the documents – which concern a presentation by Fisker to the DOE in which it falsely claimed to meet milestones set forth in a government loan – to lawyers in a case in which investors claim Fisker lied to them about financial troubles. While the DOE has given over documents already, they were incomplete and heavily redacted. "I understand that such disclosures may have a negative impact on future DOE analyses," says US District Judge Sue Robinson. "but conclude nonetheless that under the circumstances at bar – the public money at stake, the Congressional hearings, and the fact that Fisker Automotive is now a defunct company – the balance of interests favors plaintiffs."
