1985 Westy for sale, New Engine, lots of fun
Up for sale regrettably is our 1985 Westy. We bought it a couple years ago as an alternative to motorcycle camping. We however have only used it to go camping locally, and is a waste to use it so limitedly. I bought it from the Beetle Shop in Belfast Maine and they have maintained it since

Has the following things
-Rebuilt engine from the beetle shop prior to me buying it. No paperwork but the proof is in the power delivered by the engine.
-New starter
-rear hatch and new front window screens from Gowesty.
-New Muffler
-New Brake lines
-new brakes, calipers
-new fan motor
-newish hancook tires
-newish Tent
-New ball joints
- a bunch of other things I can't recall, have spent over $2k on this since I bought it fixing and having things done right.
-Newer rear bumper, LP tank, and Fuel Tank

Fridge is nice and cold, stove and water work great. The bad is the power steering lines need redone as they are leaking and there is some rear fender rust and some other rust near the front steps that the PO must have already addressed. Underside is rust free.

The photos show it without...BUT it does have a chrome rear bumper!!!

Odometer was replaced by the Beetle Shop in Belfast Maine, who was also the prior owner. Title is unavailable due to the state of Maine not issuing them for a vehicle of this age. Bill of sale will be issued in place.

Why spend upwards of 12k on a old VW when you can get this one for half that.

We are building a house and really need the extra money to put towards that. My wife really wants a nice kitchen and bath!!

UAW Falls 87 Votes Short Of Major Victory In South

    Sat, Feb 15 2014

Just 87 votes at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee separated the United Auto Workers union from what would have been its first successful organization of workers at a foreign automaker in the South. Instead of celebrating a potential watershed moment for labor politics in the region, UAW supporters were left crestfallen by the 712-626 vote against union representation in the election that ended Friday night. The result stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches. The loss is a major setback for the UAW's effort to make inroads in the growing South, where foreign automakers have 14 assembly plants, eight built in the past decade, said Kristin Dziczek, director of the labor and industry group at the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Michigan. "If this was going to work anywhere, this is where it was going to work," she said of the Volkswagen vote. Organizing a Southern plant is so crucial to the union that UAW President Bob King told workers in a speech that the union has no long-term future without it. The loss means the union remains largely quarantined with the Detroit Three in the Midwest and Northeast. Many viewed VW as the union's best chance to gain a crucial foothold in the South because other automakers have not been as welcoming as Volkswagen. Labor interests make up half of the supervisory board at VW in Germany, and they questioned why the Chattanooga plant is the company's only major factory worldwide without formal worker representation. VW wanted a German-style "works council" in Chattanooga to give employees a say over working conditions. The company says U.S. law won't allow it without an independent union. In Chattanooga, the union faced stern opposition from Republican politicians who warned that a UAW victory would chase away other automakers who might come to the region. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee was the most vocal opponent, saying that he was told that VW would soon announce plans to build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers rejected the union. That was later denied by a VW executive, who said the union vote had no bearing on expansion decisions. Other state politicians threatened to cut off state incentives for the plant to expand if the union was approved.

CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over

    Mon, 03 Sep 2012

After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.

Next Volkswagen Golf R to get 286 horsepower?

    Tue, 12 Feb 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf hasn't launched in the United States just yet, but we're already setting our sights on the range-topping R model. According to Autocar, the next Golf R will be more powerful than the current version, producing 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful production Golf ever.
Powering the new Golf R will be a further evolution of Volkswagen's well-liked 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, and when mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the hotter hatch will reportedly be able to sprint to 62 miles per hour in five seconds flat. That's over half a second quicker than the current US-spec model.
Other updates for the new Golf R include the addition of VW's Haldex 5 all-wheel-drive system found in the latest iteration of 4Motion. Furthermore, thanks to the use of lightweight materials, the new R is expected to weigh in around 2,650 pounds - that's a massive 675 pounds less than the current US-spec car. The exhaust has reportedly been reworked to provide more aural delight, as well.
