Hello

We are new to eBay so I apologize for the low rating etc but if you have any questions please message me and I will get back to you. We have just done a 4000 mile road trip across Mexico with the vehicle and now we have to sell it fast as we are flying to europe soon.

This is a 1984 VW Transporter / Vanagon / Caravelle van. It has automatic transmission with the original VW/Audi transaxle sytem which is one of the best and most simplest transmission systems ever built. The van has the 2.1liter engine which gives it extra power and reliability and you will not need to do a Waterboxer or Subaru conversion as this little van just flies up any hill with no trouble at all.

It is in good running condition for the age of the vehicle and loads of new parts have only just been fitted by a company In Belize called VW-Belize. (check em out if you want) Brakes, tires, steering, ignition, fuel pump, fuel hoses, and filter, sensors, cooling system, suspension parts, starter motor are all brand new + more. The vehicle drives well and is in good overall functioning order. The van is located in Austin Texas and you can come and see and drive the vehicle any time. Just message me and we can meet up. .

NEW PARTS 2 upper Ball joints, 2 lower Ball joints, 1 Tie rod end, 1 Steering Rack Boot, 2 rear wheel brake cylinders + rebuild kit / hardware kit for drum brakes , 1 seal  for brake booster, 1 spark plug wire set, 1 fuel pump , 1 fuel filter, 1 high-pressure fuel hose, 1 master cylinder , 1 Ignition Switch , 1 water temp sensor , 1 brake caliper, 1 set of front brake pads, rear brake pads,  1 set of front brake hoses, 1 fan switch, 1 thermostat housing, 1 thermostat, 1 thermostat gasket set, 1 crankcase breather hose, new starter motor, Ball joints, 2 caliper rebuild kit, break hardware-kit, 2 hatch struts . The brakes have been bled and flushed the cooling system and radiator has been flushed and the thermostat works, the fan comes on automatically as it is supposed to, welding work has been done on wheel arches, column, fender and front panel. The fuel tank has been dropped and washed out and the rubber seals replaced. All work carried out by VW-Belize and receipts for parts and labor available.

When I bought the vehicle it was a non runner. We have now travelled with the van over 4000 miles from Belize to Austin Texas and it runs really well. We have a video of the whole trip so you can see the van in action.

The interior is a bit rough. The back seats are in pretty good shape, the head lining is in very good shape, but the carpet is covered in stains ( I managed to spill my coffee 4 times during the trip. Yes. 4 times) and the front passenger seat is in pretty poor shape and the drivers side is worse. They are all very comfortable though an I had no problem during the 4000 mile trip even after 6 -7 hours of driving.

The body work over all is not bad. There are a few minor dings and dents in it and the paint job is not a professional one and close up you can see some runs in the paint and the old VW stickers show though the blue paint. The bumpers have had a knock or two and one of the tail lights is a little broken as is one of the front indicator lights. Still road legal though.

Known problems. The brakes squeal. They are brand spanking new and work very well and are very strong but they squeal, When we set of on the trip I thought they would stop squealing after a few hundred miles but they are still making noise. I have had the wheels off but I can not find any thing wrong. I am sure your local VW repair place can fix this in two shakes of a lambs tail. The fuel gauge does not work. The speedometer works fine as does the temp gauge but the odometer stopped ticking over about 11000miles ago and I have not been able to fix it. The engine will tend to stall when still cold and the idle is a little rough. I think it needs a new oxygen sensor. (around $80.00 I think) Nothing much but you will need to get this fixed. It always starts first time. Please bear in mind that this van is 30 years old and has lots of little things wrong with it but it is a good solid van that can be driven all day every day, on the highway and in the city, paved and un paved roads. All the essential electrics work fine ( wipers lights etc) but none of the interior lights work.

We may be able to deliver the vehicle to you. We have carried out all checks with the DMV and I can sell you this van and you can get a title in your name no problem.

Any questions please message me.

Cheers

Volkswagen scores dominant 1-2-3 finish at Monte Carlo Rally

Mon, Jan 26 2015

Racing calendars change from year to year, but most series have that one race they just couldn't do without: the Monaco Grand Prix for F1, Le Mans for endurance racing, Dakar for rally raid, the Indianapolis 500 for Indy, the Daytona 500 for NASCAR... and for the World Rally Championship, it's the Monte Carlo Rally. Winning the Monte brings with it its own measure of bragging rights, but locking out the podium is another story altogether. And that's just what Volkswagen did this weekend on the Cote d'Azur. The hard-fought season-opener saw nine-time world champion (and seven-time Monte Carlo Rally winner) Sebastien Loeb return with Citroen, but ultimately it was the VW team that won – and won big, taking a commanding 1-2-3 finish. Sebastien Ogier (with Julien Ingrassia) finished first, followed by Jari-Matti Latvala (with Miika Anttila) in second and Andreas Mikkelsen (with Ola Floene) in third, all of them in the Volkswagen Polo R WRC that was just updated in time for the start of the season. The rally passed right through the Forest Saint Julien where Ogier was born, and at the end of it all, Mikkelsen walked little more than 50 steps from the Volkswagen garage to his condo at Quai Antoine 1er in Monte Carlo. It was only the second time VW has locked out the podium since hitting the scene two years ago, following the German team's 1-2-3 finish in Australia last season en route to its second consecutive world championship. This also marked the second year in a row that Ogier and VW have won the Monte, after narrowly losing out to Loeb in '03. The achievement in Monaco this weekend made VW only the fifth manufacturer to take the top three spots in the Monegasque capital: Renault-Alpine became the first in 1973, followed by Lancia (with the Stratos) in '76 and then again (with the Delta Integrale) in '89, Audi sandwiched between in '84 and Citroen with the "dream team" of Loeb, Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz in 2003. (Peugeot achieved the same in 2009, but that was when the Monte Carlo Rally had left the WRC and was run as part of the less prominent and lower-spec Intercontinental Rally Challenge.) Not even Subaru, Mitsubishi, Toyota or Ford - all dominant forces in their time - can claim that feat. The victory secures the Polo R WRC's place as the most dominant car in the championship, winning over 85 percent of the rallies in which it has been entered since its debut in 2003. Top Gear drag races VW Golf R against McLaren 675LT and Porsche 911

Thu, Apr 7 2016

Top Gear's latest quarter-mile drag race in the collects three very different performance vehicles: the 296-horsepower Volkswagen Golf R, 424-hp Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, and 666-hp McLaren 675LT. While each of these cars sit near the top of their segment, they each come from totally different rungs of the sports car price ladder. Spoiler alert, the Golf R doesn't win. But the final results illustrate the diminishing returns of price and performance. For example, the McLaren is only about a second quicker than the Porsche to 60 miles per hour, but the 675LT costs over 2.5 times more that the GTS. Related Video:

NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA.
