THIS WESTY IS IN NICE CONDITION FOR A 30 YEAR OLD VAN. I DID A SUBARU  2.5 DOHC CONVERSION AT ABOUT 139,000 MI. THIS CONVERSION WOULD COST ABOUT  $7,500.00  --- THIS INCLUDES STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST, NEW HIGH TORQUE STARTER, NEW CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE, FLYWHEEL, NEW RADIATOR, NEW FRONT AND REAR HEATER CORES. THE ENGINE CAME FROM A 1999 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH UNKNOWN MILEAGE. I WAS TOLD IT HAD NEW HEAD GASKETS AND TIMING BELT, THOUGH I CAN NOT VERIFY. IT RUNS VERY NICE. IT HAS AN ELECTRONIC ENGINE MONITOR THAT READS OUT RPM, TEMP. VOLTAGE, MPG, AND SO ON. IT HAS BEEN VERY DEPENDABLE, NO OIL LEAKS, A VERY CLEAN CONVERSION. I CONSISTENTLY GET 23 - 25 MILES PER GALLON. I LIVE AT HIGH ALTITUDE  6,600', AND SURROUNDED BY HIGH MOUNTAIN ROADS, DOES GREAT. I DO WISH IT HAD A 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION. I THINK THESE EARLIER VANAGONS HAD LOWER GEAR RATIOS. THE TIRES ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, THOUGH I BELIEVE I WOULD REPLACE WHEELS AND TIRES WITH 15" , SEEMS TO BE A STANDARD UPGRADE. THE FUEL TANK HAS A NEW SENDER, AND NEW HOSE KIT. I HAVE AN AUX. BATTERY KIT, BUT NOT INSTALLED.

THE BODY IS IN GOOD CONDITION. I SEE NO EVIDENCE OF REPAIRED BODY DAMAGE. I REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD RECENTLY, NICE AND CLEAR ! UNDERSIDE IS VERY CLEAN WITH NO RUST, THE EXTERIOR BODY HAS SURFACE RUST SCATTERED AROUND THE LOWER PART OF THE BODY, VERY SUPERFICIAL. SMALL DINGS HERE AND THERE, BUT VERY SOLID. ALL DOORS WORK WELL AND ALIGN NICELY. THE TOP CANVAS IS IN OKAY SHAPE, HAS NO TEARS, AND SCREEN AND ZIPPERS ARE IN DECENT SHAPE. IT'S JUST OLD. ALL THE CUSHIONS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, THE BEDS FOLD OUT NICELY AND WORK AS THEY SHOULD. I  REPLACED THE FRONT SEATS WITH SEATS FROM A 1990 VANAGON, THEY ARE MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE THAN THE ORIGINAL. THOUGH THEY ARE GREY. I REPLACED THE PROPANE TANK  WITH A NEW ONE 3 YEARS AGO, THE STOVE WORKS GREAT. THE SINK AND FAUCET ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, I HAVE A NEW WATER PUMP, BUT HAVE NOT INSTALLED IT. THE REFRIGERATOR WORKS ON AC/DC, BUT THE GAS MODE DOES NOT.  THIS VAN DOES NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. IF YOU LIVE IN A HOT PART OF THE COUNTRY, MIGHT NOT BE FOR YOU. I REMOVED ALL THE COMPONENTS. WE JUST DO NOT NEED A/C IN THE MOUNTAINS, BESIDES THESE SYSTEMS SEEM TO BE PROBLEMATIC. THE CABINETS ALL ARE IN GOOD SHAPE AND WORKING ORDER. INTERIOR TRIM IS AGED, SOME CRACKING AND PEELING OF THE PLASTIC TRIM DUE TO AGE. ALSO INCLUDED IS A NICE VAN COVER FROM GOWESTY, NICE AWNING, AND TENT STRUCTURE ?
FOLD AWAY BIKE RACK IS NOT INCLUDED.

VW CEO talks up 20 new plug-in models in Frankfurt

Mon, Sep 14 2015

For years now, Volkswagen has dreamed big, forming plans to become the world's largest automaker. That trajectory includes a big plug-in vehicle push, and the CEO of Volkswagen, Martin Winterkorn, said that his group of companies will bring out 20 more EVs and plug-in hybrids by 2020. The list includes the next Phaeton and the Audi A8. "No commitment to electro-mobility can be any clearer than that," Winterkorn said, according to a VW press release. "Our Group already has the largest connected vehicle fleet on the road. By 2020 we will have transformed all of our new cars into smartphones on wheels." Perhaps most illustrative, Winterkorn admitted that the auto industry has turned a corner. "Technological leadership is no longer solely defined in terms of horsepower and torque," he said. "We are taking the precision, enduring value and quality of our cars into the new, digital world." The VW group is also showing off new plug-in concepts in Frankfurt this week, like the Tiguan GTE and the Porsche Mission E. Winterkorn's prepared remarks do not give out the details of these vehicles, but we'll have all the info from the show floor in short order. Stay tuned. PROF. DR. MARTIN WINTERKORN: "THE REINVENTION OF VOLKSWAGEN" 14/09/15 from Volkswagen Group 20 more electric cars and plug-in hybrids by 2020 announced Group not only has broadest electric fleet, but also largest connected vehicle fleet on the road Customers should benefit from automated driving technologies as quickly as possible Volkswagen taking precision, enduring value and quality of its cars into the digital world Wolfsburg/Frankfurt am Main, September 14, 2015 – In the Volkswagen Group, there is a sense that a new era is dawning. On the eve of the 66th International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt am Main the CEO of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, said on Monday evening: "We are in the process of reinventing Europe's largest automaker, laying the technological, economic and structural foundations." The Group Chairman announced there would be 20 more electric cars and plug-in hybrids by 2020 – from compact cars to the next Phaeton and Audi A8: "No commitment to electro-mobility can be any clearer than that." He said the Group already had the broadest electric fleet in the automobile world, and added that Volkswagen was also at the forefront when it came to the future-oriented field of digitisation: "Our Group already has the largest connected vehicle fleet on the road.

Volkswagen and Funny or Die take humorous spin in 2015 Golf

Wed, 10 Sep 2014

Volkswagen is partnering with Target and Funny or Die in a bizarre ad for the latest Golf starring comedian Rob Huebel, probably best known for his work on Childrens Hospital on Adult Swim.
The commercial is titled The Way Too Helpful Neighbor and stars Huebel as the eponymous neighbor. The challenge is for Huebel to help improve his buddy's apartment before the guy meets his girlfriend's parents for the first time. The obvious way to do that is to slide a new Golf through an actual Target in Texas, while simultaneously showcasing the store's goods and the car's features.
The commercial is airing online now and on TBS during breaks in Conan O'Brien's show, with sneak peaks during other programs on the network. Auto advertising is becoming pretty normal for Funny or Die at this point, though, with the site previously partnering with Fiat for several videos. Check out the ad above and see if you think it works. Scroll down for VW's announcement.

The mood at this year’s Paris Motor Show: Quiet

Tue, Oct 2 2018

The Paris Motor Show, held every other year in the early fall, typically kicks off the annual cavalcade of automotive conclaves, one that traverses the globe between autumn and spring, introducing projective, conceptual and production-ready vehicle models to the international automotive press, automotive aficionados and a public hungry for news of our increasingly futuristic mobility enterprise. But this year, at the press preview days for the show, the grounds of the Porte de Versailles convention center felt a bit more sparsely populated than usual. This was not simply a subjective sensation, or one influenced by the center's atypically dispersed assemblage of seven discrete buildings, which tends to spread out the cars and the crowds. There were not only fewer new vehicles being premiered in Paris this year, there were fewer manufacturers there to display them. Major mainstream European OEM stalwarts such as Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Nissan and Volkswagen chose to sit out Paris this year, as did boutique manufacturers like Bentley, Aston Martin and Lamborghini. This is not simply based in some antipathy on the part of the German, British and Italian manufacturers toward the French market — though for a variety of historical and societal reasons that market may be more dominated by vehicles produced domestically than others. Rather, it is part of a larger trend in the industry. Last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would not be participating in the flagship North American International Auto Show in 2019 — and that it might not return. Other brands including Jaguar/Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Mazda and nearly every exotic carmaker have also departed the Detroit show. Some of these brands will still appear in the city in which the show is taking place, and host an event offsite, to capitalize on the presence of a large number of reporters in attendance. And even brands that do have a presence at the show have shifted their vehicle introductions to the days before the official press opening in an attempt to stand out from the crowd. In many ways, this makes sense. With an expanding number of automakers, with diversification and niche-ification of models and with wholesale shifts that necessitate the introduction of EV or autonomous sub-brands, there is a growing sense that, with everyone shouting at the same time, no one can be heard.
