It's a 1982 White Westy that shows some age.  Has dings, dents, but all windows are intact, all major features are present.  Original interior and curtains and upholstery.  It does  not run.   This is an air cooled engine with an automatic transmission.  There is a tear in the pop up canvas.

It wasn't running when I bought it, but I replaced the fuel lines, had the fuel tank cleaned and sealed, put in a Bosch coil, new plugs, and it was turning over but not catching.  I suspect new fuel injectors are in order, but there is also the question of vacuum leaks.  Based on aftermarket parts I believe it has been rebuilt at least once, and I have been told that the parts identified are actually better than the originals (I Know - not if you are a purist.)

The tires hold air pretty well, but I would plan on replacing them.  All four hubcaps are here.  Missing some bumper part, end caps.  Definitely needs a mechanic.  Rust through under the rocker panel behind the cabinets.  Someone added big speaker boxes under the top sliding bunk, but the radio was not present when I bought it.  Also, it came without an engine battery, and it will come without one.  I bought an 84 that turned up for sale nearby, and I couldn't refrain from buying it.

No warranty implied.  AS IS.  Please ask all of the questions you can think of before you make an offer to buy. I received it via car carrier as I bought it from Florida.  Depending upon your distance from here, you might consider the same.  Check out Uship.

US Buyers Only.  Deposit via PayPal within 48 hours.  Balance to be paid within 7 days via cash, check, money order, but vehicle and title will not be released until checks/money orders have cleared the bank for sure.

VW LogBox and Race App performance data logger for R models [w/video]

Tue, Dec 30 2014

Now that it's got a 300-horsepower Golf R to brag about, Volkswagen wants you to be able to brag about it accurately with the LogBox and Race App performance data logging combo. Plug the LogBox into your VW's OBD II port and it sends data over BlueTooth to the Race App, measuring variables like acceleration, distance, G-force and engine performance. If you're on a circuit, it uses Google Maps to make a map of the track, and you can record live video in-app to match with the data. Volkswagen says the LogBox will be available for R models and "a range of further Volkswagen cars," so you'll want to hit up your dealer with questions before ordering. It's available from the VW accessories store for 299 euros ($365 US), but right now the free app is only available in German, in the German-language iTunes and Google Play store. We imagine that will be corrected shortly; in the meantime, the video can show you how it works. Volkswagen tipped to launch turbocharged Up! with 100 hp

Tue, Jan 6 2015

Overseas customers enticed by the compact dimensions of the Volkswagen Up! but turned off by its diminutive 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine may be encouraged by reports that the German automaker is planning a more potent turbo version. Previewed by the GT Up! concept showcased at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (pictured above), the more performance-oriented model is expected to pack the turbo three from the larger Polo, where it produces 100 horsepower channeled through a five-speed manual transmission. That may not seem like much, but it would put the existing 59- and 74-horsepower versions of the German city car to shame. That might not give it enough punch to keep pace with the upcoming Smart Fortwo Brabus (and its Renaultsport Twingo counterpart), tipped to pack as much as 130 hp, but it could stand to out-perform the existing 89-hp turbo models of both. Given that the reports are emanating from Brazil, however, it is possible that the Up! Turbo (or whatever it's ultimately called) would be limited to the South American market, if it's built at all. One thing's for sure, though: it's not likely to make it to North American showrooms anytime soon.

GM outsold VW globaly in first quarter, Toyota reports numbers next week

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

General Motors released its first quarter sales figures this week, reporting that it sold 2.36 million cars and trucks worldwide. That figure represents an increase of 3.6 percent when compared to the same period last year. GM's growth was attributed to many factors, including global Cadillac sales that were up 26 percent and Chevrolet posting a one percent increase over last year (this marked Chevy's tenth straight year of record global sales).
Volkswagen came in just behind GM, as the German automaker reported global sales from January through March at 2.27 million vehicles, an increase of five percent when compared to last year. While that number was strong, VW is cautioning that markets outside China and the US, such as those in Europe, are becoming a challenge as economies falter.
Yet to report sales is Toyota, current holder of the global world sales crown (the Japanese company sold 9.75 million cars last year, against 9.29 million sold by GM and 9.1 million vehicles sold by VW). Even though GM and Toyota both say they don't care who sells the most units, it is unquestionably a strong bragging point and sales equate to revenue. That said, Toyota will report its first quarter numbers next week.
